With Illinois State's 35-0 victory over Youngstown State, I've completely given up on trying to understand this conference.

Don't think these will hold serve simply because too many of the top MVFC teams still have to play each other. Don't think that other teams around the nation would be too excited with any matchup against a Valley team home or away.

SDSU vs NDSU = FAKE RIVALRY
The Dakota Marker is a made up trophy used to promote this forced rivalry back when these two schools moved to the Great West. Let's not anybody forget that.

I have to believe that once NDSU starts playing UND again in all sports that the idea of the SDSU/NDSU being each team's big rivalry will cease pretty quickly. The XDSU's can be cute frenemies, like an old girlfriend from high school.

All trophies are “made-up”. When the mighty Dakota Land Grants made the move it was a big deal. Those games have been the biggest college football games ever played in the Dakotas. They were bigger than NDSU/UND & USD/SDSU games ever were. That’s because the D-1 designation made the winner the undisputed best college football team in the Dakotas. Those games made it big and it is big. Now its evolved into the Dakota Big Three. The round-robin often results in a clear winner: Best College football team in the Dakotas. It is scheduled on consecutive weekends at the end of the season. This year it features three of the best teams in the country. It’s going to be huge and the stadiums are long sold-out.

The XDSU's can be cute frenemies, like an old girlfriend from high school. UND will see to it that game is filled with acrimoney. They always have. They think that makes it a big game. Last time in Fargo it was a routine rought of a second rate team. The 39-6 schellacking denied their best team in 15 years a playoff spot. There was no excitement and except for unds constent snipping, boasting and complaining, was no different than any other OOC game against an unranked tomato can. We even had to wait until deep into the second half for their first first down of the game. The big games have evolved into the Dakota Big Three. No more Jr Bowl for USD as a lead in to the main event. The main event starts Saturday in Brookings for Round 1 of The Dakota College Football Championship series. It will end right here in The Dakota Dome when the Jacks wheel their bus into the lot for round 3.

Tomato can...now there's a classic term that I haven't heard for a long time.

Surprised NDSU fell that far with their resume. I'm guessing the Massey and Sagarin polls look quite different.

SDSU vs NDSU = FAKE RIVALRY The Dakota Marker is a made up trophy used to promote this forced rivalry back when these two schools moved to the Great West. Let's not anybody forget that. And yet it is the only local rivalry anyone really cares about and the only one SDSU fans and players, and Bison fans and players truly care about. Will the USD v SDSU game ever get back to where it was before SDSU moved up? This year will tell a lot about what happens in the future. But for you to degrade the game for the Dakota Marker? May I suggest you ask a player from SDSU or NDSU what is the most important conference game of the year. Reading your comment, you might be surprised.
