OK - let's get some info on the new Yotes coach. Welcome Coach Lee!
Anyone know what kind of offense he likes to run? Can get Mooney and the rest of the O cranking?

"Lee spent the past five seasons as the associate head coach at Grand Canyon University, helping the Lopes to a 103-58 record. The team's 81 wins during its four-year transition to Division I are the most by any program that has made the leap. This past season, GCU totaled 22 wins and advanced to the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) championship game. The Lopes finished in the top three of the WAC in all five seasons with Lee and made four consecutive postseason appearances."

So it appears we have an experienced coach who has done more with less. I don't see any mention of his recruiting ability, so I hope he brings in some assistants that are excellent in that capacity. With that many years in the business, he has to have a lot of contacts.

That's interesting. I know a lot of people don't like Gottlieb but I really respect his opinion on basketball. I wonder what his connection to Lee is or where their paths would have crossed. He seems to be a fan of the hire.

You know what I wish that quote said. "Good Guy, Great Coach, Terrific Job".

Todd Lee story. Personal friend. Can’t hide this. Let me give the reasons why coyote fans should be excited about Coach Lee
Nothing was ever handed to Coach Lee. He put himself in this position because he worked his ass off. He didn’t play college basketball. Attempted to walk on but just wasn’t good enough at that level. He never had “a name” to give him a boost. He did this the old fashioned way. He worked, continued to hone his craft and became a widely respected coach in his field. If you were to ask guys like Jamie Dixon, Randy Bennett, Dan Majerle, and Eric Musselman to name some coaches they respect the most. To a person, Coach Lee’s name would come up.
He has won everywhere he has been. I’ll start backwards. After Dan Majerle was hired as head coach at GCU, Jerry Colangelo suggested that Dan hire a college guy to teach Dan the college game. They happened to ask the west coast Nike rep for his opinion. His suggestion was a guy at Kentucky Wesleyan (Todd Lee). Other coaches at the time echoed the sentiment. They interviewed him and hired him. As the associate head coach at GCU, he was instrumental in building that program into what it is today. I know for a fact that Dan tried everything he could to get him to stay.
Kentucky Wesleyan. Todd took over that program after it was essentially been given everything but the death penalty by the NCAA for widespread cheating. It’s a school of about 600 students with no money. He managed to turn that program back into a winner with no resources. Nominated for National D2 coach of the year in 2012 I believe.
Associate head coach at Cal-Irvine. Simple. Check Irvine record while he was there. Check it out when he left.
Cal Bakersfield. Won a national title as top assistant. D2
Coached for 2 seasons with Eric Musselman and the Rapid City Thrillers. Start of a friendship that lasts to this day.
Assistant at San Diego where he coached Mike Brown and served on staff with Randy Bennett.
Coach Lee graduated from USD with business degree with no intention of getting into coaching. After graduating and a few years in business world he realized he wanted to be a basketball coach. He was able to get hired as a volunteer at a community college.
Nobody ever handed Todd anything. He has had to work hard to get to this point. Doesn’t get to state on his resume that he was “all-conference” or played at.... Think Buzz Williams, Mick Cronin, Mark Few, Roy Williams, Tom Crean, Frank Martin to name a few.
It’s a fantastic story. South Dakota kid who went away, set some goals, scratched and clawed his way with hard work and brains and now gets to come home. He will out-coach almost everybody. He will assemble a staff that will recruit and will continue to outwork everybody.
I am a South Dakota guy. Born and raised. Have known Todd most of my life so I am biased for sure. But the proof has always been in the results with Todd. Can’t be ignored. Welcome home Todd Lee!

I have followed a "fellow Yote" throughout his career and he has done well everywhere. Your post tells me that he will come in and do whatever it takes to take the Coyotes to the next level. I am very excited for the future of Coyote basketball!
