No crap they would compete in the WAC, but that means NOTHING absolutely NOTHING. The WAC is no longer considered a legit program at the FBS level. The Sun Belt is way more legit than the WAC. Seriously, think a little on this. Of course it takes a budget, but it's what you do with that budget. Alabama had a great budget for years and never sniffed the title. How is Texas doing with their huge budget? When was the last time Ohio State won a title? Oregon is finally figuring out how to use the Nike money. Oklahoma State has always had money but finally are winning against since Barry Sanders. It takes the right people with the budget as well. Also, didn't Joe Glenn come from NDSU and lead them to a title in D-II? All this hate for NDSU, love it for a rivalry, but the I don't like stupid comments for pure hate that go with it sometimes. Stupid comments ? You may want to check yourself. The WAC, MAC, and Sun Belt are in a higher division of division 1 athletics currently- you are wrong. 11 MAC players were drafted in the 2012 NFL Draft - 0 from MVFC BTW Joe Glenn was at Northern Colorado and Montana. Saying Alabama and any other fully funded BCS program struggled with lots of money is meaningless. SD does not even have the basic funding in place. My initial problem with NDSU is the following: not the fact that they have resources - I take offense to Bison Posters gloating on a SD board about how good they are compared to SD when their resources are superior. They have been in this position for years and the predictible outcome of dominating a conference of much less financially equipped opponents is less impressive than if they played against teams that were more in their same financial ballpark. I take offense to your attack on me. Come see me in person and call me stupid. You go find where NDSU had financial superiority compared to every other team in D2 during the 80s. So USD has never fully funded their football teams even during D2 days? So even now they are still underfunded....not at 63 schollies yet? Gloating? Go back in this thread and read who started this.

In the NCC how did your FB budget compare to SD and to the rest of the NCC? Which school had a bigger budget? Morningside? SDSU? USD? Mankato State? UNO? Your school has a good tradition of giving your teams an opportunity to win consistently in a conference that did not match that commitment. No surprise you have a long tradition of winning more often than not. Would have been a little tougher had you had to face even moderately more well funded competition over those years.

So our 1st 3 national championships in the 60s, before there was even a Division 2, NDSU had financial superiority over everyone we played, even UNI then? Really? Did you work in the NDSU athletic department then? How about the 80s then. When D2 went from 40 something schollies to 36.....every other team in the NCC did not have a fully funded FB team? USD did not fully fund 36 schollies at any time? Are they fully funding 63 schollies now? If they didn't fully fund 36 schollies then why can they fully fund 63? Why even move up? So will that be used as an excuse by you in the future if USD does not win multiple MV conference titles or national titles?

usdfbalum:
So by your reasoning we won our national title this year 'cus James Madison-Lehigh-Georgia Southern-Sam Houston were underfunded and we had this advantage over them. Boy, this must be it cus that was the only reason we won those 5 D2 titles and 3 small college titles over the years.....right?

I also don't care (nobody outside of ND or NDSU alumni does either) about the 60s, 70's, and really even the 80's. The last 25 years is what I am talking about. I don't begrudge you for being proud of your school. What is bothersome is when members of your fanatic base come on here and brag about their superiority and lop-sided win/loss record over SD and other former NCC opponents - it is ridiculous. What is your record within the last 20 years against UNI (they have a smaller budget). Imagine if you played in a conference the last 20 years that had more equally funded teams in it. If your recent record against UNI is indicative - the last 20 years would have look much different than what you experienced.

We'll see in the next 10 years then how we have faired. We are 17-15 since joining the MV...pretty average so far. You don't care about resource disparity? You brought it up. Is USD at a financial disadvantage now? I don't know, you tell me. Do they fully fund 63 football schollies? I don't know, you tell me. I'm looking forward to the game in SF this year. I want to see how USD fans support their team. Will they come out to watch? We'll see.

Your in conference advantage budget-wise in the NCC the past quarter century, the Great West during transition, and against most of the MVFC is significant and meaningful. I'm almost certain that every team fully funds 63 football schollies. Now if NDSU raises outside money to help fund the athletic schollies (Teammakers), that is a definite plus. I know it is alittle over 3 million dollars for all athletic schollies at NDSU and the Teammakers raise over 2 million to donate for scholllies. I think the TMers expect to have over 11 thousand season ticket holders this year. Now is this the reason that NDSU is successful? I don't know but I'm sure it helps having this "loyalty" in the fanbase. Look at Nebraska....they had over 75K at their spring game. Montana had 8K.....I think we had close to 6K fans at our spring game. How was USD's attendance at their spring game?

NDSU has one victory against UNI in modern times. When I say I don't care about the resource disparity - I mean that is not my irritation with NDSU. My irritation is that many in your fan base regularly gloat in regards to beating programs that are not funded near that level. If I could fund SD at that level or build that level of support I would be just as proud. The difference would be instead of going onto other underfunded programs chat board to gloat - I would just expect my team to beat them. In terms of doesn't SD have the same number of scholarships- you are way smarter than that and know that is just the start. How much does Bohl make? His top coordinators? How many salaried coaches on staff? Total staff pay? How many strength and conditioning staff? Facilities etc. I am excited for SD to compete against NDSU - it will make the program better. Can your school say the same?

Ya, USD is a good addition to the Valley. Natural rival. For me as a fan, a game that I can drive to....that is a plus for me anytime I can make an away game.
I have made it no secret that I think USD will struggle the first few years in the league. NDSU struggled.
Can coach Glenn produce a winner?
Ya, I think he can but it will be a process. The Valley is as tough as nails week in and week out.

I wasn't comparing it to USD you idiot and Arkansas is not a premier D1 program in the SEC you idiot. They finally cracked the top 5 for the first time since the 1970s and were still just the third best team in the SEC. I was saying, if you have the money, you also have to know how to use it in terms of facilities and coaches and keeping the fan base. Use your head a little bit. Nice name calling buddy! Idiot, huh! Do alittle research on Arkansas. Have they won multiple national championships like Alabama...no, but they are a premier SEC team. Lou Holtz took them to 6 consecutive bowls and was 60-21. Frank Broyles before him won the national championship in '64. Petrino was 34-17 with them. $$$ you say. What FCS team has unlimited funds for athletics?.....zero. Your comparison with elite 1A teams is way off. But, whatever. I live in Arkansas, so good call on that one. They haven't been premier in a long time and are still the third best in the SEC and have a struggling defense right now but a high powered offense. They have been to one BCS game, so that is not a premier team. Remember when I said over 25 years? How long ago was 1964? Both you and usdfbalum need to take a break from this for a while and realize you two are going back and forth for no reason.

This topic is now closed and has completely gotten off the topic. It's like watching a couple of toddlers fight over who has the most impressive diaper. I should've never even said anything and this is my fault for helping it escalate.
USDfbalum and Bison, stop talking to each other.

First of all, it isn't possible to ignore the past. NDSU certainly has a celebrated past, and one that any alumni would be proud of. Since the 60's, Bison football has been the benchmark for Division 2 programs, and they have continued with success as they have transitioned to D-1. As a former player, it was fun to play them (and beat them) because of who they are (were).
I believe what rankles the posters on this board is the perceived arrogance that a few Bison posters have displayed on this site. It's one thing to puff out your chest and crow on your board, it's another to do it on our board. So please keep that in mind in future posts as my preference is to have them continue posting as the rivalry starts up again.
To all USD fans, in all candor, this is the team we need to focus on and chase. We are definitely behind in many aspects. It is true that they do indeed have a major financial advantage over USD, but more dollars doesn't always equate into wins or success. I will give them e credit they deserve with their fan base. They are without doubt the best FCS football fans in the country. Quite frankly, I am in awe of them. They support their team no matter what. When I tailgates their 2 years ago prior to us playing them, they simply have it going. Big crowds, knowledgable, travel well and far, financial supporters, and vocal crowds. It is called TRADITION.
This is what I want for USD in the worst way, but as much as I bleed Coyote Red, we have nothing in our past that would indicate we are on the verge of breaking out. I hate admitting it, but that's a fact. Our students are apathetic. Our alumni don't support Coyote athletics like they should. We have a rough time selling out the Dome for D-Days and other big games.
The bottom line is this. If you want to win, you put up or shut up. You give dollars, and you buy seats. You learn to travel with the team when they are on the road. You have high expectations that comes from the donations.
All of this being said, it still is possible that USD will compete because we still have 63 scholarship athletes, good coaches, and a smaller but passionate fan base that needs to expand on itself. We have beat them before, we'll beat them again, but if we want to be in the Title Talk on an annual basis, things have to change. Can we be in the hunt in any given year? Yes. Every year? Not right now. It's our job to change that mentality.
Get ready Sioux Falls, because one way or another Joe Glen is gonna bring a team ere that expects to beat NDSU, and you damned well be there. Buy those tickets, and buy them now. If ou are a businessman, but 100 of them and give them to Coyote fans. This game will tell me just how big a pair we have.

It wasn't even a debate, just someone who is mad USD doesn't have as much money as NDSU. Not even you were contributing to it.
