For those of us not very close to Vermillion or any local news, when does practice start? Any injuries expected to have healed that have not?

Not much coming out other than the D might be better than we think. Appear to be close knit group. Bring back he Pack Patrol days of lt 70's along with a scoring offense and we'll be in good shape.

Yeah, the defensive line was adequate after Starr last year, so it would be nice to see more than just him there. It seems like that was the position that took the longest to really get up to the level of the others in terms of talent. From what I know with football recruiting, though, the defensive line is always the hardest to find quality, consistent players at.

I've heard good things coming out of fall camp. Starting to get excited for the upcoming season.

Just imagine when we have another rush end like Tyler to play on the opposite side of the line... that will be nice....

I notice you said "when" not "if". You know something we don't?

Drew Iddings, DL 6-6 244, red shirt freshman out of Rapid City Stevens was a highly touted recruit who should be able to contribute soon. He is a great athlete:

I was originally referring to Wiseman out of Lee's Summit, MO but the Stevens kids sounds promising too. Gotta love the size - hopefully there's some wheels to go with it!

Regarding the Montana game, John Thayer, "on the John", was visiting with Montana blogger, Greg Rachac billingsgazette.com/sports/college/blogs/catgrizinsider/ and I learned a few interesting things. Montana is picked 3rd in their conference, behind Montana State and Eastern Washington. The 3rd place pick is probably due in no small part to recent "issues" with player(s)s, coach, and AD. Montana is a very solid program and I am sure they will overcome most of their challenges. But, it is interesting to me that Eastern Washington is picked second and we all know how they fared last year (coming in as reigning 2010 FCS national champs) at the Dome. The Yotes will be under dogs going up against the Griz but I expect we will compete. The Cat Griz blogger was very complimentary of Coach Glenn, who is the winning est coach in Montana history (by %) and will be inducted into their Hall of Fame this fall. For those of you who are interested, John Thayer - "on the John", is on from 9 to 11 am and you can listen live at: www.kvtk.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=category&id=13&layout=blog&Itemid=13. He will be talking USD sports on a frequent basis. Go Yotes!

Wiseman is also who I was thinking of.
Also, from Mick Garry:
KDLT to televise USD football games at Montana (sept. 1), Missouri St (oct 13) and Youngstown St (Nov 3)

I've listened to On The John a few times now, great stuff for USD followers. Had David Sayler & Joe Glenn on, plus the 2 guys from the Yankton P&D. Looking forward to the season with stuff like that.

Is "On the John" available in any archived format? Doesn't work for me to catch the live broadcast?

Pretty sure you can catch KVTK streaming through a smart phone using the Tune-In Radio app. I keep forgetting to check it out. Heard this show on Friday morning and really liked it.
