I think Jack fans are putting wayyy too many eggs in Cody Larson's basket. Yes, he was recruited by Florida (along with schools like Kansas) and played some but lets be real, he averaged 0.5 points and 0.8 rebounds in his last year at U o F. You see guys who didn't fulfill their potential at big universities "transfer down" all the time and there is no guarantee they become impact players. USD basically lost one player (Myles because J-Boots is basically addition by subtraction) and players that either have a ton of experience (Gruis) or young guys who gained a ton of experience last year (Boes, Kasperbauer, Flack). I anticipate SDSU is really going to struggle putting the ball in the hole if Larson isn't the 15-20 ppg guy State fans seem to think he's going to be. At the very least, we are on the same level as SDSU (second tier teams in the Summit this year) but I have a hard time not seeing us having more success in the conference in 1 A.N. (After Nate). Jack fans didn't even know if he was going to play this year until a couple of months ago, don't see where many of our fans are expecting that much out him this year.

In all honesty I can see how outsiders would predict a low finish for the Coyotes. We abruptly lost our legendary coach who had guided the program for over 20 years. I can see how someone on the outside would look at that as a negative. Those on the inside look at it and, while we thank Coach Boots for his years of dedication, well, we see a head coach who is going to be more dynamic, try some different things, push the envelope on the court so to speak. This Coyote team is going to have a different feel and it is going to start on the defensive end of the court. We can put up points, defense is where you will see the difference. I think there is truly some excitement for this upcoming season. Well said.

Preseason polls really are nothing to get worked up about. The MVFC preseason poll had us finishing 10th, but we are sitting in 3rd halfway through the conference slate. Just gotta go out and show what we got.

Nagy has confirmed that the starting for the jacks will more than likely be Carlson, White, Dykstra, Larson, Heemstra. That would be 6'4, 6'6, 6'8, 6'9, 6'9.

Kansas...FBS. UC Davis, MoState, IndSt, WIU. I don't see a Butler level team on the schedule. All fully funded FCS or greater. The whole schedule is tough from start to finish.

Lose out and we'd still finish higher than 10th, but as it stands we're much higher than our projection. Preseason polls aren't worth their weight in paper.

FACT: ISU, YSU, Montana, NDSU >>> UC Davis, Kansas, NAU, WIU
SDSU killed WIU but lost to MSU on the road. USD lost to WIU but beat MSU at home
ISU and UNI are both dealing with major injuries to star players.
SDSU is still ranked. Do you really want to trust the polls? KU is one of the worst FBS programs.

Winning in Cedar Falls felt good - hope you can experience it sometime

No kidding. There is another thread on here outlining USD's injuries this season. We lost our top running back before the season even started. You don't think Wiseman was a significant loss on the D line? Imagine him and Starr on the field at the same time. We've had to throw a lot of kids into the fire this season and they have responded. Every team has been hit by the injury bug this season and USD has been hit as hard as anyone. We aren't making excuses. Next man in.
Keep it going young Yotes.

jackl, I know you're trying to make a point, I just don't get it?
There's an 8-way tie for first in the conference?
I admit, I may have expected more from the Yotes, despite the coaching change, but do the non-conference standings look anything like the pre-season poll? That was my point, it was a slight re-shuffling of last year's standings, and not that reflective of what is happening in each program. I am not the least bit surprised by Omaha, Fort Wayne was strong at the end of the year, and well-coached, both were slighted in the preseason poll.
It is December 30th, not a single conference game played yet, so we'll see how it all shakes out by March.
As for the Yotes finishing 7th or much higher, it will depend if they play consistently like their games vs. Wyoming, Kansas State, Green Bay or like their games vs. Morehead St. and Youngstown St? Are you confident of which it will be? Didn't think so...
