If half of the teams in the top 25 played in the Valley, they wouldn't be in the top 25.

I agree 100% with you MW. Players and staff need to be aware of whatever happens good or bad before it hits outside. Good luck in today's day and age with social media. Unfortunately, just a gut feeling, but I am quite confident that we will see an exodus of some players that have had some pretty good success over the past few years. Mostly due to the damage done because of poor offensive transition early in the year after the Montana game and things that were overlooked before it. Sad, but just an insightful guess. Hopefully, where there is lose, there is an opportunity. Gee, another one almost encouraging players to leave. It seems to have worked out so well for players in the past. What's the percentage of players ending up on scholarship at another school? Way less than 50% if I remember correctly. Why leave if you've already established yourself? Thats just a part of college athletics now, especially on teams that haven't won. Not everybody is going to leave for greener pastures, but there will absolutely be some that try. If you're 2-3 year starter here, some of them might believe they have what it takes to play higher or move to a program closer to home, etc. It happens at every program every season. It's just amplified by losing seasons and staff turnover.

This will be a big day for Mr. Bouman. From here on out for him, every opponent will have seen game film of him, so...unpredictable moves will be harder to come by. Good luck in the ice castle. Do coyotes and penguins coexist anywhere in nature except the MVFC? Agreed 100%. I’m guessing the true RPO offense is out the window. They might show it, but I’m pretty certain the QB isn’t running much. Camp would take off occasionally, but I don’t think Bouman can scramble much. Probably quick throws and more pro style if the O line can pass protect a little better. Gonna make for an interesting 4 games. I personally think, and get the same from people I’ve spoken with that the whole OC mess (which apparently started before K State) really put him in a bad spot with some parts of the team and coaches. I’ll be curious to see if he and other kids hit the portal when the season ends. I watch a lot of other college football games on Saturday nights and I doubt he’d have a problem finding a new place to play. There’s some pretty bad QB’s in the college football landscape. I’ve watched a few Iowa games and Petras is abysmal. I think both our QB’s could play there right now. Probably Nebraska too. I think he’s got enough talent to land somewhere else and probably be fine. Could be he needs a change with a new coach and surroundings too. That happens in sports. We hear about it all the time. But, this is where we are right now and hopefully the QB change leads to a win! Go Yotes!! RPO has nothing to do with a QB's running ability. It stand for: Run Pass Option. It's about making pre/post snap reads on what the defense is doing and whether to run the ball or throw it based off of those reads. In my humble opinion, it seemed Camp was struggling with decision making this year, for whatever reason. Sometimes it was his fault, often times it might not have been (OL, playcalling, OC resigning, etc.). Either way, he didn't look very confident and neither did the team. Enter Bouman and the whole thing flipped. maybe it's just pseudo energy brought on by the QB change on homecoming(All struggling teams love a back-up QB). All I know is things seemed to run much more cohesively after Bouman came in. His decisions seemed crisp and correct (barring the zone read QB keep on 4th and 1) and the offense was moving the chains and scoring points. That's something we hadn't done all season up to that point. Whether we run RPO, or something else, it seems like the team is behind Bouman and brings a different energy when he's out there.

Firing is a tough word. I would prefer if Bob decided to call it a career and bow out. I doubt that will happen. There are some intriguing former Yotes out there in the coaching ranks that I would like to see considered for moving this team forward: Jim Glowgoski (DC-UNO); Byron Thomas (Minot St); Wes Beschorner (UW Eau Claire). I've always been a strong and vocal advocate for seeing if Kurtiss Riggs has any interest in returning to 100 yard football. I love each of the guys that you mentioned that are former yotes, would call every one of them friends, and close friends at that. But none of those candidates would be an upgrade at head coach over what we currently have. I don't really have an opinion on Riggs since he hasn't coached 11 man football in over a decade.

I don’t think running the table would be enough to make the playoffs, but could be enough to save Bob’s job. Easier schedule next season, find a new OC, and hopefully this was a 1 year blip blamed on the schedule. But first they must break the losing streak at YSU. And cannot expect a similar comeback on the road. Gotta play a full 60 minutes. I wonder if retaining Bob is truly in the best interest for the success of our football team. Most yote fans I talk to are ready to move on. I don't know of too many coaches who have been mediocre (at best) for seven seasons then find their stride in year 8 at age 64. I think this is a good time to get a fresh start regardless of how the rest of the season plays out. Just my thoughts. If we run the table and end up 6-5, possibly with a postseason berth, it would be pretty difficult to cut ties with the head coach. We obviously have to wait and see how things play out, but if this season gets turned around and we finish strong, I would be in full support of this staff returning. We would need to hire a new OC and shake some things up offensively but I feel like the program is on solid footing right now. The OC debacle with Ted left us dead in the water, if we can salvage this year and end up over .500 overall and in the league, that's one hell of a job by the men running this program. All that said, we need to win this week for any of it to matter.

I also noticed that play where Bouman basically spiked the ball at a RB or shallow receiver. It's something I felt I haven't seen a USD QB do in a long time. The past several years that play usually has our guy trying to scramble a play into existence instead. I think that's a good thing unless you've got someone like Streveler or Mahomes at QB. I noticed the play, too. The called play appeared to be a screen, where the OL purposefully let the DL/LB rush upfield and then release to block downfield. In that situation, it's nonsensical for the QB to hold onto the ball and try to make a play. Nobody is blocking for him, yet he can't throw the ball away downfield because we'd have OL illegally downfield. The only play is to throw it at the RB's feet. It shows how lost our QBs have been in the last 7 years that we've always tried to "make something out of nothing" on a play like that. Throw it at his feet and live to pay the next down. A breath of fresh air to see that type of thinking from Bouman.

We enter this week at 2-5...1-3 in the Valley. The real question in my mind, and I'm sure I'm not the only one...if we run the table the rest of the way do we get into the post-season? Or is it too little, too late? If Bouman stays at Qb and we see a resurgence, with our SOS, 6-5 should be enough to open some eyes on the committee and sneak in. 6-5 overall and 4-3 in conference is a decent accomplishment in the grand scheme of things when you look at that schedule and how we started. However, none of that matters if we don't take care on business in Ohio this weekend.
I'm probably getting way too far ahead with that type of thinking, but Saturday gave me hope again.
Like YF always says, 1 game at a time. Let's go 1-0 this week and see what happens.

Not giving up, nor bashing any players or coaches, just seems that the most important position on the field who happens to really be struggling right now doesn't have a position coach any longer. Maybe this change will breathe some life into the QB position and offense in general. hoping for the best for Coach Schlafke and the Yotes. This is a game we need to win to bring some swagger back to the team and fanbase.

This may belong in a thread of its own but I believe USD has been at its best when we’ve had a dual threat QB. Jones, Shepard, Beschorner, Streveler….Without a serious run threat we seem to be just meh on offense. Anyone else feeling that? Camp isn't a statue, he had a 75 yd TD run last week for crying out loud. We just need our QB to be efficient in the run & pass game. Make the easy throws when they're presented. In the QB run game, get what you can and protect yourself. To me, it seems like Camp is often times searching for the big play even when it's not there, holding the ball, taking sacks, being reckless and turning the ball over. We don't need a gunslinger, get the ball out and let your skill guys make plays. Its not just on Carson, either, it's the play caller and design of the offense as well.

This will be a much better measuring stick for us than last week was. Limit self inflicted damage and we'll be there in the 4th quarter but we have to be able to run the ball and stop the run. We struggled in pass pro vs. KSU but a lot of our big plays can come off of play action where our OL can be more aggressive. It didn't help our cause to spot KSU 14 in the opening minutes of the game.
I see a close one in this game coming down to 1-2 big possessions in the 2nd half. We need to win at least one of these games at the beginning of the year vs. Top 5 programs. Getting this one would be huge.

Nobody will be at the Dome for a road game at Montana either. I see your point but there should be a balance in the schedule to position it for a playoff berth. I'd like to say that we should just take on all comers. I don't think NDSU fans would be having this type of conversation, but I'll admit we're not at that level yet and we need to help ourselves a little until we can get to the level. But speaking of NDSU, have you all taken a look at what their OOC schedules have looked like the last several years? Or SDSU's? They don't schedule near as difficult as we have. part of the xdsu's scheduling comes from FBS schools not wanting to play them anymore, though. It's a lose/lose for them. If the FBS team wins it doesn't look great because they're playing an FCS team. If it's close or God forbid they lose, it's the end of the world since you lost to an FCS team, even if they're damn good.

I played through some of those tune up games. Missouri S&T, NW OK St, William Penn, etc. They don't work the kinks out of anything - frankly you get a lot better look out of the scout team than you do bringing in teams like that. The players don't get up for them and the fans don't care about boring matchups. I get it might be an easier road to a playoff seed, but is that really the kind of atmosphere we're going for? An empty dome for a third of our home games? We have a hard enough time getting people to show up for conference games. We need wins, period. A 5-1 team will get a lot more looks than a 3-3 or 2-4 team from everybody...pollsters, playoff committee, media, fans. Wins will eventually put butts in the seats. IMO we can't get people to the dome consistently because we can't win big games consistently. With the exception of the SDSU games, when is the last game of importance we won? If you want big home crowds, you have to win when it matters, too. Last year we laid an egg against ISUr when we could have locked up a playoff bid and possibly a share of the conference title. Then we beat WIU and state to set up a huge battle against the bison and get our doors blown off. Only to come home and lay another egg in the 1st round of the playoffs. That's not going to get people in the door quite frankly. As far as SOS...even Alabama has a hard time getting people to watch the cupcake games, but they still play them.
