Writing might have been on the wall with 6 OL coming in and many young returning starters. I wish the young man good luck and hope he finds the right spot.

From the Omaha World Herald on key players in the portal:
Baylor Scheierman: Both NU and Creighton are competing with Kentucky, Arkansas, Clemson, Duke, Kansas, Mississippi State, Texas and Wake Forest for the South Dakota State transfer from Aurora.
Scheierman announced his top 10 Wednesday. His name also remains in the NBA draft.
With a list of suitors like that its pretty hard to envision him returning to sdsu.

Nathan Goering to the portal yesterday. Things are really thin at TE/WR. Need to add a body or 2 via the portal or we are going to need some freshmen to be game ready this Fall. Unfortunate. Didn't hear much about him during fall or spring. It is discouraging seeing a RS Freshman leave the program. Could be buried but there is still so much time to develop and contribute. We have some promising young guys in Galbreath and Bonnin, and 1 TE coming in with the '22 class. That would leave us with 5 TEs on the roster if I counted correctly. Not ideal. Hopefully the portal can giveth just as it taketh away.

Being from Nebraska, I can definitely see the Huskers and Creighton offering him. Would love to see him go to a Power 5 school, just so we don't have to see him again. LOL

Sucks to hear the news about Nate Thomas, I. loved what he did for us last season, especially late in the year when Theis was a little banged up. We are deep at RB though, so hopefully somebody else can step up and fill that role.

Makes sense, closer to home and a BIG 10 program. At least they are on the rise compared to WVU. Interesting decision as they have Jazz Shelley, a Jr. next year I think, who starts at the point and was All-Big 10 last year. Good luck to her and thanks for your efforts as a Coyote.

Leaving for WVU
Pros: Coach P Big XII
Cons: FAAAAAAR away from home for both kids. Family would not make it to more than a handful of games over the course of the rest of their careers Leaving Teammates/friends Leaving a team at the top of the conference/competing for NCAA tourney bid Joining a team in the bottom of the Big XII and may not get back to the NCAA tourney
The scale seems to be shifted in one direction IMO. Either way, they need to make the best decision for them and their families and we should respect that decision as a fan base

There's our answer for TE depth. I totally forgot about Galbreath. I'm excited about his potential there.
It will be interesting to see how the RB situation unfolds. We have a plethora of guys that have shown promise and deserve carries. Theis, Nate Thomas, Mansaray, Lawrence...There's only so many touches to go around.
Nice to hear good things about Makai Lovett developing into a weapon. Hoping he turns into the monster that Schalfke is describing. we haven't really had a true physical threat to win a 50/50 ball in awhile.

It is what it is...makes no sense to whine and moan about it. The portal has changed the landscape of college athletics. Dawn owes us nothing, Maddie and Kiyah owe us nothing. Like YF said, all 3 have represented USD in a first class way and been compensated accordingly. Like it or not, college athletics is a business. Sometimes it can be cold hearted. Dawn left for more $$$ and a bigger conference and more exposure. We all knew it would happen eventually. No reason to be bitter.
The transfer portal is a cruel reality for mid majors. If athletes perform well at a mid major it will attract bigger suitors. We wouldn't be mad about somebody getting a work promotion or leaving a for a company that would pay them more money if they deserved it. We need to stop getting our feelings hurt when coaches or athletes move on to take bigger opportunities. Do I like it when coaches leave or players enter the portal? No, I think it sucks. But it's not like it happens because these people want to piss off USD fans or hurt our feelings. They see it as a promotion. it's not going to change any time soon.

I'm not worried about WR. We have a talented group of young guys that I feel can step in and be productive. My biggest concern is TE. We have Goehring but other than that who else? TE has been a huge weapon for us the last 2-3 seasons and we will need somebody to take over Samson's role and productivity.
If OL keeps progressing and building depth, RB room is loaded, Camp keeps developing...WR should not be an issue.

Kody Case enters the transfer portal This is a confusing one for me. If you want to hang it up, that's one thing. But where did he think he'll end up in the portal? I doubt teams are lining up to offer a guy that hasn't been on the field in like 4 years. Unless he's looking to drop down a division or 2. I am in the same boat. Maybe the injuries have moved him down the depth chart? Wondering if he is looking to drop down a level or something. The best ability is availability. Case was brilliant his first couple of seasons but then unfortunately he couldn't stay on the field after that. I thank him for all he's done for Coyote football and wish him well.
