Should be a decisive D-Days win. Murray State should compare relatively well to St. Thomas.

Starting to get concerned that we still do not have an Oline or WR coach in place yet. The OC hire was a bit late but can justify that with the national championship game. Took two weeks after to fire Paopao and Prevost which apparently was a shock to many. Usually you have a hire in place shortly after… this is getting to the point where you look at who’s available (or should I say who is left) and are they better than what we jus had. What do you mean by "who is available"? This isn't free agency, where you can only hire guys who aren't under contract. Most position coaches aren't on multiple year contracts at the D2, FCS level and don't have penalties for leaving for another job. Most FBS schools only offer position coaches 2 year contracts. It's not like we can only hire coaches that aren't currently working for another program. We can hire anybody we want to, regardless of their current employment status. I'm sure there is a list of candidates that have been vetted and interviewed but it's just not known to the public.

A little off topic but not really. Some people are pretty hung up on the fact that Davis is an sdsu guy. Hell, I don't care if we hire Stig himself as long as we start winning consistently. Its past time to worry about where guys are coming from and focus on results.

Performance would also be a major factor. you cant really promote anyone internally when you are winning 4-5 games a year. Feels like we would need to be in the 7-10 win ball park consistently to even discuss an internal promotion or coach in waiting. This is spot on, why would anyone be worried about a coach in waiting when we have a head coach with a sub .500 overall record in his 7 seasons at the helm. This is a high ceiling OC hire.

Good hire...from what I've heard he's a good recruiter, too. Hope to see some more creativity on the Offensive side of the ball with his style.

IMO, I would be more concerned if people weren't questioning decisions made within the program, it would mean nobody cares. Blind allegiance after a 3 win debacle of a season would be alarming. If it isn't over the line ethically or directly attacking a player or coach, why can't people be critical, or in this case inquisitive about decisions or lack thereof.
Plus, there's nothing else to talk about involving Coyote football right now. Sometimes we get too sensitive around here.

Today is the last day of the AFCA national convention. A lot of wheeling and dealing goes on during the convention, especially at the FCS and D2 level. If we don't know anything about an OC after this week, it might be time to hit the panic button.

I had a feeling this was going to happen in the RB group regardless of how this season went. Too much young talent in that group and not enough touches to go around. Hopefully he's the only one that decides to leave and Thomas comes back strong.

This is an interesting read about the risks of the transfer portal. In 2021, only 54% of portal entrants enrolled at a new school. It's basically a coin flip for these young men that enter the portal. This article claims that only about 1/3 of FCS transfers find a scholly on another roster. Only 36% of FCS transfers find another school at all. I'm sure if you're an established guy at the FBS level the chances of a successful transfer increase, but for FCS guys or depth chart casualties the chances that you find a spot somewhere else are pretty bleak. www.si.com/fannation/college/cfb-hq/ncaa-football/college-football-transfer-portal-numbers-risky-move-for-athletes

What's done is done. The administration feels like Bob is the best person to lead our program for the "foreseeable future". herbie and gestring know much more about the goings on of the program day to day than any of us. 99% of us know only what the scoreboard says and what we read on this board. As difficult as it may be, we should probably trust their decision. I have to admit, I didn't see this coming, especially immediately after the catastrophe that was Saturday, but onward we go. hopefully Bob can find a quality OC and maybe shake up the staff a little to breathe some life back into this place. The Dome was a depressing location this fall. We've come too far to fall back into the doldrums of the 2010s.
there is talent on this roster. We have the ingredients on offense, just need the chef to put it all together into a meal. Defensively we have been so inconsistent the last 3 years.
It will be interesting to see what the extension looks like. Hopefully incentive laced so both sides can feel comfortable.

Non-con games need to be powder puff wins, there is no reason for them not to be. Schedule pioneer league teams as often as possible. As we experiences this year, scheduling a tough non-con schedule is asinine. Playoff committee has never rewarded S.O.S. so why bother. Stack up wins and then buckle up for gauntlet of the MVFC. it's the only way that makes sense.
back to the original question posed by YF:
Only 2 teams are locks: ndsu sdsu
if YSU takes care of business against MSU and SIU they're in. If UND beats us they're in at no worse than 7-4 If UNI beats us next week and finishes 6-5 they're also in. If ISUr can win their last 2 (SDSU, WIU) and finish 6-5 they are in.
Lots of ifs but 3 guaranteed and as many as 6 can make the tourney IMO. I'm a pessimist right now so my field looks like this
sdsu ndsu YSU UND UNI
USD is out no matter what but I do hope we finish with some momentum.

The Sitting Bull trophy and the USD - UND rivalry was the subject of a Sports Illustrated article back during my days as a student at USD. Perhaps it could be resurrected as part of a week long celebration of Native American history and heritage that would rotate annually between Vermillion & Grand Forks ans culminate with the football game on Saturday That was a cool article!

Win consistently and fans will show up. Being 2-6 doesn't exactly inspire someone to give up a Saturday and drive in from Sioux Falls to witness a dud. You want fans, win....period. I have season tickets and have had to drag myself to games lately and have often been disappointed by my decision to do so. And I'm a former player, imagine the causal fan's perspective. If you want large suprt you have to deliver with wins, consistently.
And don't come at with last year's poor playoff game attendance either. A bad late season home loss, big win(lucky) vs. bunnies, getting our doors blown off in Fargo, and thanksgiving weekend contributed to a lack luster crowd in the Dome. Did I mention consistency?
