Just a small piece of information I've heard (3rd hand, but reputable source)... is that at least some (if not all) the players really want to play for Coach Jewitt, and would be happy if he was named the HC. This isn't a newsflash, or anything. Just wanted to share it as something that is likely true and substantiated (not speculation). I have also heard that Demers and Holmes may have stayed if they had known there was going to be a coaching change, and if Mike was still here.
Of course, none of this means that Mike is the best candidate for the job. That's for the AD to determine. I just wanted to share what I have learned.
I do wish I knew where some of the animosity towards Mike from some of the fans on here is coming from, though. I've also seen some cryptic posts on social media denigrating him and his "coaching history", saying he's a creep, or something like that. I can't help but think that might be some overzealous State fans that did not like him coaching in Vermillion? Or people wondering why he would have left AJ's staff in the first place, and someone came up with a (false) narrative? If there were any personal issues with him similar to what is being said by hecklers, there's no way he would have been hired by the Brookings School District, or USD for that matter. There is a vetting process.
I'm just chalking it up to idiot fans who think they know more than they do. I'll take the opinions of his players over random anonymous hecklers/trolls, who don't cite anything specific.

…The problem was that while he could sell snow to an Eskimo, he sucked at being a leader so the company lost its best sales guy and was now being led by a poor manager. No one benefited from that promotion. In my opinion, we need a strong proven leader, not just a good coach. The Peter Principle, basically. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_principle

Since it’s all speculation, I’ll throw another name into the cage match: Mandy Pearson from UM-Duluth. Defense and results.

No surprise. Already had an offer from GB, and they are from Appleton, very close to GB. Kayla was probably the main reason they were looking at USD…
Unfortunately this could be said for several of our other recruits and prospects, including one in the current graduating class, Wilke……

just get someone that wants to stay here Let’s not act like we are desperate, or anything. Having a top-shelf coach stick around is pretty rare. AJ staying at State very nearly didn’t happen, and now it seems as though he is black listed due to being male. Rare situation of a great coach staying at a mid-major. We shouldn’t compare that situation to ours. All things being equal I’d take a great coach for a few years over a mediocre one for a long time. I wouldn’t take back our time with Amy or Dawn, just because they left. Both of them elevated the program. Just get a great coach, and whatever happens happens. JMO

Regardless who ends up getting hired, I like the fact that we have two solid options right off the bat. The longer a coaching search happens, the more likely you start to see players and recruits getting uneasy and looking at other options..... especially in this time frame right before the portal deadline.

Just looking at Theisse's bio on the Mankato site... msumavericks.com/staff-directory/emilee-thiesse/145She seems to have at least one thing in common with what Kayla was trying to do: up-tempo high-scoring offense. On the defensive end, her teams seems to have led the conference in turnover margin and steals for most of her career there. I'm guessing (will look later) that her scoring defense wasn't necessarily highly ranked, if she was running a high-tempo style. Just goes with the territory. You are both giving and getting more possessions. Ball control, rebounds and turnovers is how you leverage your defensive advantage, not total points. If she's been doing this for a decade there, and has had a good deal of success in the last three seasons, so it's fair to say she knows exactly what she wants to do, and how to do it. Basically what we had in Coach P. At that point it's just about getting the right players for her system. Do we have the right players? Definitely Grace fits that mold. Another parallel with Coach P: a D-II national championship. So why were we not looking at her the last time around? Her W/L record hit a lull mid-career at Mankato. Her best seasons were her first 3 and her latest 3. Is that a potential red flag? I guess I don't know. Hard to ignore the national title, though. I'm guessing if we don't hire her, someone else will. Oh, and by the way: her name appears to be pronounced "TEE-see", you know, like the helicopter pilot on Magnum P.I.

Well, if it ends up having been a portal player with cold feet, …. The next coach will have a roster spot to make their own mark with. Trying to see the silver lining….

Hire someone who will stay here. With the changing face of college athletics, meaning NIL money, portal transfers, athletes staying a year or two instead of a career, I look at the coach as who I get behind and cheer for. Our level offers a lot more stability than the power conferences which should be appealing to the right coach. At least I hope it is. Agreed. Ryun left for what was, at the time a far superior program (we had been better since then for 8 seasons under Amy and Dawn). Amy left for her Alma-Mater and a P-5 program in Nebraska. If you recall, she was reluctant to leave and forced them to make a second offer. If we ignore the WVU year, Dawn ended up at another Big 10 school closer to her home state. Kayla is going back to her Alma-mater, in her home state. So basically all of these coaches are going to a “dream job” situation. I think either Mike or Emily are both coaches who call this state and region home, and have played and coached here their entire careers. Emily has ties to Spearfish, Kearney, SDSU, Drake and Mankato. Mike has a similar geographical profile. I think we would be looking at some stability with either.

OK good we need help at the post . I wonder if we contacted Ayianna Johnson who left Minnesota Doesn't look like we follow her on twitter. That's a surprising transfer, as she had committed to Coach P at WVU in August of her senior year, and followed her to Minnesota. Had a great year, too. At the time of her commitment, she had offers from three other D-1 schools, including Wisconsin and DePaul. Great player.

Two things. One, they just tweeted out that Ava Cossette signed her NLI, so it could be that. Although that happened this morning, and the tweet was yesterday….. Two, when is Coach Kayla due? I still think it would be odd for her to use the same Charlie Coyote tweet they have always used to announce a new commitment to announce either one of those two things.
