Impressive, last year I believe the staff came onboard in December and they hit the FCS 30 scholly maximum (plus brought in numerous walk-ons...)
Already at 17...mid-November and with the FBS recruiting coming to an end, Yotes likely hit the 30 max again...

I have to believe this game was noted for the coaching staff when coming onboard. Good gauge of progress... I'm interested to see if the secondary sits in zone or will they play more aggressive? I haven't see much press... Wonder if Tyson goes back to safety for this game... Keys: - Yotes have to be able to run the ball, SDSU can be run on -Secondary has to be able to slow the passing attack -Dline has to apply consistent pressure or secondary is toast At this point, do the Yotes have enough healthy D-backs/safeties? Seems like 1 or 2 have gone down each of the past few weeks... True, there has been movement at the safety position, Tyson was moved to LB and Warner is injured... At corner there are no injuries and the coaches primarily use a 3 man rotation (kid subbing is an undersized true freshman). Playing zone could possibly mask the next guy up scenario, however it's difficult to sit in zone against a stud QB... Make no bones about it, this will be a tough test for the secondary and they will need an assist from the D-LINE...

By definition a trap game...
Watching the Yotes so far my only expectation is whichever team leads early that team is likely to give up their lead... I haven't figured out this team, more questions than answers...
Appear to have the enough talent to compete...

Streveler Still had 2 yrs of eligibility....really not sure how it's different. People need to get off these kids' case about transferring. Playing collegiate sports is a business. If they can better themselves moving to a new school then so be it. We may not agree with the decision but frankly it's not our decision to make. They need to do what is best for them. If I want to switch jobs to better my family does that make me a quitter? It's no different than switching schools. It is different because it is more personal to the school, teammates, and fans who believed in him and supported him when no other school gave him the opportunity. I agree with bt71... I'm sure there are numerous kids that were on that roster last year that aren't this year and nobody really cares, because they weren't big contributors... This kid is on the radar because he was a stud. It works in both directions, however rare for kids to move up opposed to down. Collegiate sports is a cut throat business, new recruits are brought in to replace the current with the hope that they are better. Remember nobody knows what the USD offer was and sometimes kids choose their highest level offer, while opting for a lesser package... Maybe if that was the case he worked his tail off to improve his scholly situation and put himself in position to move up a level... Or it could be as simple as fulfilling his dream of playing at a big time FBS school... I'd be more understanding about the concern if he transferred to NDSU or SDSU...

Losing should never be accepted I get that and yes it's tough because you've waited so long for change, however staff changes will indeed reset the timetable for consistent success. My outlook as an outsider is the expectations are/were too high...
-new scheme/philosophy, one might assume since being somewhat close the prior year success is a lock this season. The defense graduated numerous starters, both corners, line, and LBs... This year the D has numerous true freshman and/or redshirt freshman subbing in or starting.
This staff will recruit players that fit their scheme and philosophy. The new staff was hired in December? Very difficult to recruit kids that fit your system when most kids are verbally committed elsewhere or have an idea of where they are going, but this staff still managed to bring a good amount of talent.
In a nutshell USD has a new staff with new schemes and 1 recruiting class that they scrambled to put together. USD edge speed at D wasn't there so had to covert a WR to help out (normally doesn't work out) which has helped. The O brought in some speed at WR, however really young... Stay tuned you have an opportunity to see this team grow into a consistent winner opposed to a bleep on the radar...

My 2 ยข... -I'm not a fan of the running QB, prefer a pocket passer that has ability to make all throws. YSU dared USD to beat them via the pass... -YSU's front seven were very good, solid run team, but beatable they had their share of mistakes; their QB was just ok... -couple nice stops by the D, but YSU only punted once -offense has to be maintain possession, convert 3rd downs, and pass consistently to compete in the MVFC.

#9 safety has to pick up his play, twice sat; can't do that against a running team, will be a long day... Tyson at LB?

I am more concerned with a high octane passing offense than run first O. Yes, the team struggled against an FBS triple option offense, but I doubt the D will see anything at that level going forward. I believe the front seven will show their stuff and play a complete game which leads me to predict a Yote 30-27 win.

The front 7 will face a formidable test against YSU. They appear to have 3 solid backs. Each week they have had a different leading rusher...
Vs Duquesne Rushing 394 Passing 219
Vs West Virginia Rushing 185 Passing 220
Vs Robert Morris Rushing 303 Passing 128
Turnovers: Starting QB 1 INT, RBs 1 Fumble

This guy is committed to UNI, but he just announced that he received an offer from USD about an hour ago. Not sure if things are changing or what. Committed prior to having other offers, maybe the USD offer will be better . *Big kid, I see he took a visit to NDSU.

Depth, competition, they started recruiting him in spring when they were just getting to know Simmons, and he is just a RS Freshman. It is a best practice to try and have a QB on your roster for every class. Eddie - I'm not saying Simmons won't get on the field - far from it - he's going to be good but he needs to learn the offense better before he's our every down qb. Like I said I think he could be better than Streveler but he needs a little more time to season. Another factor could be the OLine... Streveler's athleticism limits how a defense can play; over 300yds rushing in 3 games is off the charts... Even if Simmons is a better passing QB (which I believe he is), he might not be better for the team today. Streveler passing stats are pretty good: UNM 10/13 117yds 9 avg 1TDs 0 INT WS 22/38 173yds 4.6 avg 4TDs 1 INT UND 16/29 215yds 7.4 avg 4TDs 2 INT Opponents will do their best to put USD in passing situations which will be telling one way or the other...

There are a lot of factors: -football is a game of attrition, being deep at QB is a luxury every coach wants. -FBS players always attractive -Streveler is an easy add being if he doesn't pan out as QB he can be used elsewhere -being a late pickup wonder if any scholly money was available; could have been a bargain -It's early in the season, there will be more changes, I believe we will see a lot more of Simmons as season continues...

I am more concerned about our offense giving the other team points than I am our defense. Agree... In regulation the offense scored 34 gave away 14 so net 20. Hard to blame the D for giving up 20...
