Wow crazy I feel like I'm reading the UTEP boards... I grew up watching the Miners...the Texas red-headed step child... Even as of yesterday I was getting texted that they want the staff fired. Anyhow when Mike Price became the coach he energized the city and there were years of success, however that was short lived because to be a consistent winner everyone has to be all in. There has to be huge investments by all with no guarantees of success. Some of my best memories where attending the crazy tailgates, meeting all kinds of folks, post parties and attending a bowl game in Mobile, Alabama. Coyotes are competing, hopefully that continues. The investment is there for facilities, a champion staff hired, recruiting has picked up. Support is up to you all... I have no ties to USD anymore, however I took a liking to the staff and community and will watch all USD games win or lose from Texas...Go Yotes!!!

Building a championship caliber team takes time and patience. Hell, I'm getting older, and I m running out of both. My gut feel is this staff gets it. I truly believe we will be contending on an annual basis in 3 short years. If not, then I will admit I give up and have lost my perspective on what it takes to be a champion. Nobody wants to hear it, but true turnaround takes time (years). USD/Vermillion is a really nice place with the right coaching staff that will produce. I'm very familiar with the recruiting process and have seen the good & bad when it comes to coaches/facilities. USD is a hidden gem... This staff is here to win and the players are as well, but as we all know nothing will be given... Enjoy your school, enjoy your team, you all are lucky to have them...

Regardless of the outcome last week and this week, the team has holes that will be addressed in the coming years. Defense: -middle of the zone is soft, safeties late -run D made some progress from 1st 2 weeks -no shutdown corners, but serviceable. -need consistent D Line rush
Offense: -Not seeing the same as other folks at QB, I do think Strevler is limited on throws he can make. I'd like to see more of Simmons. -pass blocking needs to get better -speedy slots need action to slow the rush.

Defense looks a lot better this week. 1 INT, 1 FR, and 1 dropped INT. -Minus the Pick6 great 1st Half. -Coaches are getting freshman in for quality playing time; good stuff!

Big upset (on paper, FBS/FCS thing) on the road for NDSU...a tad surprised, but I did feel/state they had a good chance.

Quick rivalry related question: Why are NDSU and supposedly SDSU so against UND joining the MVFC? I'm not sure I understand why that would be anything but good for both of them. Usually comes down to recruiting... For example, certain Big12 members didn't want to allow TCU in due to fear kids would stay home. Today Houston has a similar scenario, but the conference is in need so UH has a shot at an invite. I don't think the MVFC is in need of growth and doesn't gain a recruiting region and/or revenue so probably not a likely scenario.

After 2 games Andrew has 8 total tackles with 2.5 for loss and 1/2 sack. He is tied for 38th in the conference for tackles at Iowa Western. Not exactly eye popping numbers. I still wish him well! JUCO can be tricky... Some teams are loaded with FBS talent and are feeder schools for top programs. Athletes are there for different reasons: NCAA non qualifiers, academic issues, off field issues, etc... Not that uncommon for D1 transfers not to start at top JUCO schools.

Meant to say FBS, my bad. I had to double check, sometimes I feel sure about something and not so much... I do think NDSU has a chance mainly because of their defense. Not having their stud MIKE will likely will hurt, but his replacement did well against CSU. Iowa will indeed go in as the favorite, but if they are slightly off and NDSU comes out like SDSU did against TCU then it's a game. I'm still trying to get a handle on MVFC teams versus FBS teams. The easy part is the conference analysis...crazy good as a whole.

TCU's corners were not good. Weineke is a stud (and big), but only a few passes the entire night had a dback in position to make a play on the ball. When you are 5'9", you need to be aggressive. It is possible that Baylor or OU score 100 points if TCU doesn't get that figured out. We have been to numerous TCU DB camps and have seen the talent first hand. TCU has talent at the corner position, now what was output you wouldn't think as much... Coach Patterson has built his program on football players not measurables which I believe why he has been so successful. I credit the SDSU coaching staff and players, they came in with zeal and believed they were gonna win. That team is talented and the defense might not be all that bad, they won't face another offense like TCU's... TCU will right the ship, they'll beat both OU and Baylor. Scheduling SDSU will prove to be smart and will help them make the necessary adjustment sooner than later. When conference play comes around TCU will be ready... Best time to upset FBS teams is week 1...

SDSU had an impressive 1st half, WR is a beast. Being from DFW we follow TCU...really surprised thus far!!
Note: Last week was my intro to MVFC football...
