Kent State has already begun its search for a new head coach following the resignation of head coach Doug Martin.
While no specific names have yet been connected to the job opening, some hints have been made known as to what kind of candidate the school might be looking for.
For starters, the Golden Flashes will likely need a coach that will come cheap. Martin had an annual salary of $190,000 per year, which was the lowest of any FBS coach in the country. To make the salary competitive with other coaches in the MAC, Kent State will likely need to offer a new coach something in the $300,000 range. This salary figure could potentially rule out some of the bigger-name possibilities, say former USF coach Jim Leavitt or former Kansas coach Mark Mangino, both of whom may be looking to get back into coaching at a lower level of competition after their controversial departures last season.
Athletic director Joel Nielsen said that the new hire could come from any level of college football, and wouldn't necessarily have to be a coach with previous head coaching experience. Also required of the Golden Flashes new hire, according to Nielsen: "They have to understand they will be walking into a heck of a challenge."
Would Joel Nielson consider Ed for the Kent State job?

I think part of the Coyotes problem stemmed from Tommy Flanagan being hurt on the first play of the game and he came back later in the game with a noticeable limp. USD did not run a lot of 3 wr sets that they usually run. Instead they went to 2 tight 2 wide formations. Taking tommy out of the game really limits USD short passing game. Tommy is great at catching a short pass and turning it into a first down.
I think the offense was a little more conservative, because of last years game. I think the coaches were a little leery of getting steamrolled again. They didn't want to turn the ball over like last year. I was really impressed with Donavan Bowens. He definitely earned more carries with his performance. Ganious is either a neg to 1 yd run or a 10-15 yd run. I don't think we should totally abandon Ganious but we need the other backs to have a larger role.
Calling for the DBs to be more aggressive and doing more bump and run would be like suicide. We get no pressure on the QB without blitzing the house. We only gave up 19 points and the D was on the field all day because of the O's inability to move the ball consistently.
I don't think Dante has played great at all. I think he got too many pats on the back for his Minnesota game. Calling for Wilhelm I think is a huge mistake. He looked lost in the game against nw okie. I don't know if we had a 1st down when he was in. Dante is our guy. He just needs to play better. Coaches need to get his confidence back with some easy throws. Our bread and butter play action where the rb cuts the DE and allows the QB to get outside was not effective. The DE jumped over the cut block every time. Dante had to improvise at that point and was throwing from a different spot and under duress with guys in his face.
We have to remember the they beat us by 59 points last year and we were a missed field goal and a holding call from beating these guys. We played awful on offense and still were right in the game until the end.

I do miss Cully's announcing he sometimes went overboard with the homerism, but the announcing on Sat was pitiful. I wouldnt mind USD going back to kvtk. I miss the days of Cully, Joe Van Goor, Layne Grindle and Jeff Culhain. Grindle and Jeff do a great job now for the husker broadcasts.

Hey shamrock, since you have the plays in question on your lap top could you post them so we can all see. I'll side with Ed until I see different. That being said, we need to make the plays when we have an opportunity and not let the officials decide the game.

I think the Yotes need to be balanced on offense. I've not been impressed with Ganious. He dances way too much in the backfield. He's great once he gets through the line and into the open field. I'd like to see more of Marcus Sims. Hes more of a strait line runner with homerun type speed.
I think we also need to get Touchdown Tommy the ball more often on run like passes or reverses and such. High percentage quick throws so he can use his run after catch abilities 8-10 touches at a minimum would be nice.
The only knock on Dante so far from me is his accuracy. He's thrown behind his recievers just enough that they cannot make the catch. He also needs to be careful on the passes to the flats. He winds up and telegraphs the long throw to the sideline. NDSU about took one the the house after seeing it a few times and jumping on it.
The fans need to really help out the D today. They should play much better today. We need to be loud and do to UND what NDSU did once their crowd got going and their players followed suit. When UND is passing our front 4-5 need to apply some pressure. That has been our weak spot so far. No pressure on the QB puts alot of pressure on our DB's.
My prediction is USD 38 UND 24 in front of the biggest and loudest crowd in years 10000+
