Shouldn't have to hide it. Two of my kids went to USD and were regulars in the student tailgate area until one of them just about got hit in the face by a flying bottle. They tailgated with us and friends over the last few years. We send our kids off to college to get an education, in loco parentis. What is the difference between a party and a tailgate? We now have to regulate something that was not regulated. I was at Saturday's game and out of curiosity checked out the new student tailgate. I would estimate only 200 students there approximately one hour before game time. Completely understand that universities move to control bad behavior. I'm hoping the student participation improves going forward. My guess is the students were 'sending a message' that they didn't like the tailgate arrangements with the low turnout.

Very interesting dynamic for this week's game. For the Panthers it's win or be eliminated from any playoff consideration. An unbiased observer would assume that provides the overwhelming motivation to win against our yotes. However, the yotes have serious motivation to win too. Win and they are well positioned for at least one home game in the playoffs. My take is both teams will be 'up' and ready to play. Yotes need to come out and take an early 2 possession lead to break the spirit of the Panthers and their fan base. With Strevler playing, I give the yotes a slight advantage over their defense with our offense very challenging to stop. Not surprisingly it will come down to the boys in the trenches for both teams. If our big boys on both sides play like they did last Saturday, it will be very difficult for the panthers to win.

The last several weeks I have taken some time to visit our opponents fan forums. Not besmirching any of these other boards, but the fan interest and participation along with the format of our board is head and shoulders above what I have seen the last 4 weeks. Today I visited the Salukis board and as has been the case in previous weeks found the available posts to be thoughtful and informative. One of the Saluki posters aptly noted how costly the USD penalties were against Illinois State and noted that we are one of the most penalized teams in the Valley and could potentially beat ourselves. Hard to argue and definitely an area the Yotes need to shore up if they want to make a deep run this season. Hopefully this weekend we see a nice sign of bigger and better things yet to come. Lots of football left to play. Penalties both earned and unearned:) Still stewing about those offensive PI last weekend that costs us the lead and momentum. I hope the coaches escalated these bad calls to the MVFC.

The Illinois State fans sure are looking confident considering their team just had consecutive embarrassments against unranked teams. It's their homecoming though, no one wants to believe they can lose on homecoming. Kolbe has 3 INTs in each of the past two games for Illinois State. Puzzling, since he only had 7 in 12 games last year. They shouldn't have any breathing room to continue those mistakes. We really haven't taken the ball away from our opponents much this year though, just 9 times on the year. I'm guessing we pick Kolbe off once, maybe twice, and take care of the ball ourselves. Keep winning the TO battle, keep winning games. From what I've read, his interception issues are directly tied to an underperforming OL. Our front 7 are VERY fast and need to take advantage of this weakness. A couple takeaways, sacks, strip-sacks will position our offense to keep the birdies out of the game.

That was a whole lot of fun. Trap game averted. The offense was very precise and defense was excellent as well. Was very impressed with how the defense and coaches adjusted to ISU schemes after their first two drives. ISU had new formations that caught our guys by surprise, but we shut them down after we adjusted. Also very impressed with how the OL wore down their front seven. Ben Klett and the other running backs ran with great power and punished that tacklers. Great team win. Go yotes!!!

Yodayote you are on point! I just had that discussion with my son yesterday! This kind of game scares me because ISU has nothing to lose and they will play with reckless abandonment. I trust our coaching staff to keep the hunger and momentum going so that the team is prepared. No game in the Valley is a gimme. I will be there tailgating and rooting for the YOTES!!! GOOOOOO YOTES!!! I have to respectfully disagree with people posting concerns about this game. I know for a fact how hungry this team is and highly doubt any let down from our boys. ISU will play their hearts out no doubt, but they just don't have the level of ability that a YSU or Western has. That's not arrogance or a purposeful dig against this week's opponent, it's just a fact. I look forward to the yotes playing hard and continuing to improve every week.

Incredible that the Oline is doing this with a true freshman center and and redshirt freshman tackle, all the shuffling happening due to Jensen going down to injury. Coaches have done an awesome job in recruiting and development. My first post ever. The OL has seen huge improvements, but don't sleep on our DL either. As good as they've played, these guys are VERY young. The two-deep rotation is mostly freshman/sophomores with only one senior. Absolutely impressive how these young men have played. We have 22 sacks through Saturday's game by 13 different players! We only had 26 sacks the entire season last year. Really excited to see the big boys upfront on both sides of the ball getting better every week. Go yotes!!
