I heard they are looking outside the current coaching staff to hire a new defensive coordinator I'm highly doubting that. Yes, ask your son and he’ll confirm.

I am concerned that with Yelk's departure and a hiring of a defensive coordinator from the outside, the players need to learn a whole new system. Hopefully they will focus on the defense during spring ball to ensure they learn the new system. Yelk was co defensive coordinator with Bradley so I'm not so sure the scheme will be all that much different. The biggest thing is retaining Bob. With his tenure he knows enough people to be able to find worthy candidates. The players will also still be comfortable because the structure will not change. Yeah...I don't think anyone publishes worthwhile* recruiting rankings for FCS. *Are the FBS rankings even good? The rankings are somewhat interesting, but don't necessarily equal success. Look at Wisconsin. They are known for identifying diamonds in the rough and developing 2 star or less into NFL quality football players.

Anyone know if we have a chance to get Luke Chuol back from Iowa Western at some point? Usually takes two years if it is a qualification issue. We're deep, young and talented at DE. Would be nice to get him, but not what I would call a priority.

they are saying on BV that 1660 Bison Radio is reporting Nielson has accepted the Job. Would love to know their source. Lots of reports out there with people falling all over themselves trying to be first. Now the question is how many of the assistants stay and how many go? For continuity and building on this year's success, I would love to have one of the assistants offered the HC job at USD. Would also help BIG time in recruiting.

Really think Nielson and his staff are going to stay. That is not saying that Kent St does not have some very attractive qualities that could work out for him. I also think he is a good enough coach to make them a MAC contender. Here is why he will stay: * Bob and his staff have come to SD not to almost turn around the program and win the MVFC, but to actually do it. They have poured so much blood sweat and tears into this program that he will want to see it through to the conclusion. * This year showed that his system can work in the MVFC and he did it with an astounding amount of young players playing in key spots. There are more playmakers that redshirted and more that will certainly come in next year and play from this recruiting class. The defense will get better with more maturity and depth and our running game will improve alongside our passing productivity - again due to more strength up front. * Bob didn’t come here from WIU to job hop quickly - I think he values the long game - sees the investment the University is making and knows he can utilize those investments to build a champion. He wants a championship and knows it can be done at USD. Will he eventually move on for a big payday - I do think eventually he may, but it will be for a bigger step up than Kent St can offer. We will know soon. I would agree with your assessment if Bob wasn't 58 yrs old. Time is working against him and Kent State provides a great earnings opportunity with zero downside (program stinks). I sincerely hope you're right, but I think he's gone.

I think we need to pump the brakes here a bit until we see what happens. Although, I get it, as a USD football fan you come to expect the absolute worst break for the program. We can never get over the hump, always something that sets us back. So I'm not surprised that many of you are just assuming that Bob leaving is a foregone conclusion and are mentally on to the next phase. ETA: Rumor is Bob is on campus at KSU today. Probably interviewing as a finalist for the position. Good point, but this rumor could be put to be immediately if Bob came out and denied that he was going anywhere. Either way we need a quick decision so our recruiting doesn't get impacted.

I'd like to see what he could do in the CFL. Seems like he would be a perfect fit for that wide open style of play. Average salary in CFL only $80k ($50k for rookies). Smart guy, doubt he wants the physical abuse when he can make much more with his brains.

Assuming Bob leaves, I wonder if we lose the entire staff similar to his departure from WIU? Bad enough losing the HC, but the assistants going and recruiting would be devastating.

they will lose at SDSU before they will lose at YSU. I agree that Youngstown looks to be a hot mess unless they bring in some transfers. SDSU is also looking at going down a notch. Have d to replace a NFL caliber TE and WR at any level. The SDSU lines on both sides were average at best. I believe a win against both, while not a guarantee, definitely a good possibility.

Of course he should take the opportunity to move to a higher paying job if offered. I am not debating that nor am I debating his exciting brand of football. The thing I am mentioning is that the finish to the year did hurt his stock. It might not have hurt it enough for him to get better offers but it hurt it a little. Frankly I'm a little pissed that everyone keeps bringing up how we finished the season. It's a marathon not a sprint. This team in less than 24 months went from doormat to the playoffs. Let's look at the body of work people. Yes we started off strong and lost a couple down the stretch. But this team NEVER quit and NEVER made excuses. If I'm looking for a coach I want a guy who has dealt with a little adversity. Bob has that experience in spades. Would I hate to see bob and his staff leave, of course but I would be the first to thank him for his efforts and wish him nothing but the best wherever he may land. THIS!!!!

At mid season I could see Bob as a desirable candidate but after the finish the Coyotes had I am not sure if I was a FBS program that I would be quite as quick to want to hire him. Just looking at what a FBS school would be considering. His stock IMO is actually slightly down right now. Next season that could improve or it could maybe go down some more. If he has someone willing to pull the trigger on him and it is any kind of a boost in stature or salary now would be a good time for him to jump. With respect, I really disagree with your assessment. I want Neilsen to stay probably more than most people on this board, but to his "stock is down" in my opinion is wrong. Let's review... Defense - lost 4 starters for the last three regular season games and another two (Schultz and Powell) for last playoff game. UNI - dominated LOS. Bad call on fumble at the end gifted the game to an outplayed UNI team. NDSU - laid an egg against best team in the FCS. SDSU - cramp gate, missed FG, amazing catch by Goedert and poor officiating cost us the win. Defense on life support and we win a playoff game on the road and after a disastrous first half, held the number one offense in the country to 13 points in the second half
