sportschic said it all when she said "My guess", that's all any of us can do and her take is as good as any. I also agree with the mental toughness thoughts. We have to be realistic, when you first show up in Vermillion and take a look around and if you're looking for bright lights we don't match up too well with UCF or South Florida. Looking at the comments on his twitter account about his leaving it looks like many of his friends and prior teammates are in places like that. If they aren't all in we are better off without him. I wish him good luck on his life choices and football career. Great thoughts. It's certainly better to find out sooner rather than later that this isn't the right fit. Everyone's better off that way.  I think Ben Klett flexed and scared him away 😂😂😂

Yes. This is concerning... I wonder how much of this decision rests on the position coach.... . Absolutely zero. It was a personal decision and had nothing to do with coaches, players or the program. I wish him good luck in the future.

Spring practice starts next Wednesday! Thankfully it looks like the weather is warming up quickly for the outdoor practices. The boys will be outside the entire spring due to the dome renovations.
No spring game this year, just a couple of open practices. Hopefully they’ll have seating outside to accommodate fans.
Looking forward to a great season. We have most of our starters and impact players back.
Questions/observations: - will our OL play and running game improve on a disappointing season? - will Austin show significant improvement in his second season like Strevler? - with Nathan Schulz, we should be solid up front on defense and free up Greenfield and Kramer on our edge rush. - looking forward to a fully healthy Cody Case. Missed him last year with his breakaway speed and play making ability - looking forward to our new defensive scheme. I’m very impressed with our new DC and his successes in the past

Is this team ever going to have depth at linebacker? Linebacker will be an intriguing position this spring and fall, with the talk of going 3-4, a new DC that has a "position-less" approach, and the few LBs on the roster with experience. It looks like we'll see some different faces in that position, perhaps change of position. I'd love to hear from the football experts on this one. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Greenfield, Kramer and/or Richardson playing LB in the new defensive scheme. We also signed two JC LB’s . Excited to see how the new DC uses our players that have the ability to play a hybrid position.

Biggest thing next year will be that Indy st (or Mizz st) won’t be sneaking up on anyone next season. And SIU could be much improved with Petrino as their new DC. USD needs a big time offseason of development in a lot of areas, but to me the OL is first and DL a close second. Agree with you on the OL needs immediate improvement. The DL will be fine. We already have good edge play and with Schultz back, coaches can’t just focus on our DE positions. My concern us LB position. Our LB play was inconsistent at best. We were undersized too. If we fix the OL and LB positions, look out for the yotes this year.

I am a parent as well, my son will be graduating in the spring. Has he switched positions since the new staff came in? Yes 4 times and they all were in the middle of the season, where injuries created a lack of depth. He can easily pick up the schemes, but the technique and nuances of each position takes a little time. Has he played and much as I wanted? No. Has he played as much as he wanted? No. But he has accepted each change with a spirit of "that's what my team needs from me." He has stayed positive and we all have supported the others on the team who were playing in front of him.  I have not doubt that your son has had this type of attitude as well, I have heard nothing to indicate otherwise. Is your football IQ higher than everyone here? Maybe. Are you more connected to the program than everyone here? No. So, has my son's college career been what were dreaming ever since he started to get recruited? No, but we are damn proud parents, who has watched their son put himself through college and turn into an outstanding young man. When you come on here and act the way you do, you are diminishing what you have accomplished as a parent. I hope you get some time over Christmas break to spend with your son and come to terms with his path in life. Merry Christmas Yodayote, Thank you for that perspective from a parent. You are correct, if any parent is planning on their son getting a big NFL contract , then they made a poor choice in coming to USD or any other FCS school and they should have walked on at Alabama. The fact is these young men are fortunate already to be among the 1% of high school football players who get to play on a Division I program. Your expectations as a parent are correct, parents would all like to see their son start, be the star, or just play more. The reality is that this is a team full of former high school stars and the competition should be great. What they all get is the experience and the education (Which is top notch). They learn skills other students do not get that include teamwork, dedication and resiliency. The path is difficult as a college athlete, these young men have dedicated more hours than most. They often face disappointment and they learn to overcome and work for the success of the team over the individual. Yes, coaching changes can effect playing time and also result in position changes to help the team. Additionally, coaches are always looking to recruit their replacement and that can mean a freshman steps in and starts over a senior. The end result is young men. like your son, who are better prepared to be successful after graduation in whatever vocation they pursue. Additionally, the experiences they have are not like most college students and they build a lifetime of memories and relationships. Every parent that has a student be a part of the program for a single year or for their entire college career should be very proud and keep in perspective the fine young men they all become. Congrats to you and your son for all the the time and dedication he put in as a member of the Yote team! All parents should be so proud of their children. Merry Christmas! Two fantastic posts. Our boys are here to get an education and are blessed to compete in the SEC of the FCS. The level of competition and game will teach them life lessons that will benefit them long after they hang up their cleats for the last time.

This is correct. Last year Nielson wanted to run more 3-4 and they would practice it during the week. Moose and Bradley were never fans of it and then would take it out of the weekly game plan. Interesting... See, this is why I like reading the board. There is information here that you cant' find elsewhere, or scoops prior to news releases. Good stuff. You can't have a poor NT to run a 3-4. So who fits that description on our roster now? * and as a follow-up, do we have enough LBs, or any hybrid DE-OLB types? Assuming Nathan Schultz is healthy, he would fit that role IMO. A 3-4 defense requires 3 beasts up front and a good couple subs for rotating. My concern is a 3-4 defense requires excellent LB play which objectively was inconsistent last year. Also, what do you do with Greenfield and Kramer, two good defensive ends? Maybe they transition to OLB? Lot of questions for a 3-4 transition.

According to his twitter page, the Coyotes just got a verbal from transfer QB Devon Moore from Iowa State. Devon was Matt Campbell’s first signee. Now plays behind Broch Purdy one of the best freshman QB’s in the nation. I don’t know much about the young man but must’ve been good at one point in his career. I’m assuming he has to sit out but don’t know that for sure No sitting out when you go down a level (e.g, Streveler).

But Bob didn’t run a hurry up until he got to the MVFC. I’m guessing he could switch back to what he did at Duluth. No way it’s Bob. Entz will be their next head coach.

I was afraid of this when I saw KU hired Les Miles because I remember him having an offer from the Jayhawks. Any one else beginning to become concerned about our lack of commits? Not a good time to be short coaches when we need them to be out on the recruiting trail either. More are coming. Also, will be a small recruiting class with so few graduating seniors.

First half analysis:
OL - much improved. Building on last weeks success. QB - Simmons a bit inconsistent. Needs to throw to check offs when primary routes are covered. Defense - front 7 good. Secondary needs to clean up coverage.
Overall - this should be at least 14-3 if not 21-3. Keep up defensive pressure and hold on the the $&@;: football on offense.
