LaVar Ball is the biggest POS media monger that I can remember in recent history. In today's age it's almost more about how much you can talk and blow smoke than to actually play well. I can hardly stand to watch sports talk shows because it is all just filler and ridiculous statements to pass the time. Skip Bayless and Stephen A Smith can fall off a cliff as far as I'm concerned. I am a fan of players who act like they have been there before ala Jerry Rice, LaDanian Tomlinson ect ect. If no one paid attention to or reacted to LaVar's antics then he would have faded away by now. I'm right there with you, the (LaVar) Balls, Baylesses, and Smiths don't deserve any notoriety, yet they're all on TV. It's a societal issue that only looks to get worse. Agreed. Can't see it getting better, but the more we give them time, the bigger and more of these type of personalities will pop up.

Incarnate Word is not a great squad. Good win, but because of how bad they are, hard to know if any of our issues are solved. Hopefully it's the beginning of a good streak.

Nobody but Trimboli and McKeever were ready to play. SFA exposed USD's weaknesses, particularly without Duffy (you can't replace her ball handling, versatility and shooting at her size). The uncomfortable fact that people are going to have to come to grips with is that Allison Arens can't be this team's best player if it's going to reach its potential. Agreed with the above. I think having a solid post player in Fogg last year and Duffy playing the point allowed Arens to do what she does best, slash to the basket. But if you remember from last year, after a weak non-conference schedule, she really really struggled late in conference play. I agree that she probably can't be the best player on a "great" team, but I do think the coaches aren't putting her in a position to be successful. She shouldn't have the ball in her hands. She should be put in isolation or wing driving situations. She looks completely lost at times when the ball is in her hands too much. But again, I don't think that's her fault. She's a natural scorer, but doesn't see the floor that well.

I'm not sure why we are playing so bad this game. Any of the more seasoned Coyotes fans have a good idea why?
The one thing that I'm starting to notice is that we really struggle with what my high school coach in the 80s used to call "my turn" basketball. We don't move the ball as much as last year. Players like Bradley don't get open looks because we seem more selfish than last year and the ball never gets around to her. And players like Frederick, who is really tough one on one, has become a player that shoots whenever she gets it, even with a double team. Is this a coaching issue or a player issue?

Not learning too much from this game, but I like Frederick sticking inside and not shooting threes, even if it's against lesser competition.

Lady Yotes face #12/14 Tennessee tomorrow. The Vols beat Coyote opponent from the other day (Oklahoma State) by 10 today. The Lady Vols have a center that is 6'6" and several other players 6'2"/6'3" and they are 5-0. They will be a formidable challenge for the Lady Yotes. The Coyote D must be great for 4Qs, have minimal turnovers and great perimeter shooting. Go Yotes!!! Do they have strong guards? Maybe we can take advantage of them with our outside shooting?

Coach P must have liked what she saw of MacKeever when she has gotten extra minutes. She started again, and had the most assists, which I'm guessing means she was playing the point? Looks like AA is up to her old tricks drawing lots of fouls on dribble-drives. She is so good from the line that it really makes a difference in the game. Lots of ISU players in foul trouble. She is still turning the ball over a lot, though, too. 1. I think Kate will struggle against the bigger/more athletic teams like today. 2. Was interesting to see Jasmine and the younger Arens playing almost the entire fourth quarter in place of Kate and Allison Arens. Maybe Coach P just riding the hot hand? 3. McKeever looked great today. Loved the energy.

Final 73-68 South Dakota over Creighton I was very happy with the performance from the Coyotes tonight. They were scrappy and the D was definitely head and shoulders above the Iowa State game. I hope I am not leaving out anyone but the players that stood out to me tonight were A Arens, Liveringhouse and McKeever. Arens had a very timely three pointer just when Creighton cut it to a one possession game. McKeever had an athletic steal where she reached into the air to swipe the ball away. Liveringhouse is really good right now with her inside/outside game. I am proud of her. She has been a good soldier for 3 years coming off the bench and now as a senior she is starting and looking as good as ever. She has earned her success, no doubt. I really thought the Coyotes did great with the ball denial defense. I thought Creighton seemed to get more benefit of the doubt with the stripes. They got many calls and it seemed like towards the middle of the game they were either traveling or close to it on just about every possession. They also got some favorable out of bounds calls as well. In the 4th quarter it didn't seen like the Jays were living on that edge as often with the traveling. The late free throws were solid with most of them going to Allison. She missed one but I can't think of any others missed down the stretch. Pre game I thought the D would be the key and it certainly was. Without it the Coyotes might not win tonight. I thought the Coyotes actually were unlucky to win by only 5. I felt they were 12-15 points better tonight. Dawn's comments on the post game She said she was happy with the D for most of the night and happy with the lack of turnovers. She said Creighton is known for their offense but they make it tough for opponents to score. She thought the Yotes played a fun style of basketball. Dawn happy with Kate so far and said she has played hard and efficiently. She has tough defensive assignments as well and much of her growth is on defense. Feels fortunate to come out on top. Talked about Wichita and their big and good post player. I agree with pretty much everything here. I think it was defense that really was the thing that changed from the Iowa State game. The only thing that I've been more nervous about and maybe disagree is the play of Arens. Besides the last 10 free throws, she had only 8 points. I'm hoping this is just a first part of the year fluke, but she hasn't been able to get into the lane like last year, which worries me. And when she's not doing driving, she struggles to pass the ball. Against good teams, we'll need her to get into the lane in order to win.

Based on the first game and a half, I'd really prefer Frederick inside. Clearly, very athletic. But she's hurting us by both roaming outside (not many rebounds) and not shooting well at all. Also, really like the play from Jaycee. Would like to see her get more looks.

McKeever with her 1st start. Like the McKeever start. Though wondering why Caitlin Duffy and Trimboli aren't getting in early. Allison Arens doesn't seem herself so far this year. Hurt perhaps?

Hagedorn has definitely bulked up since last year. The new weight room has benefited him. Saw that. The USD training staff (or nutritional one) is clearly doing their job. Props to the young man as well.
