Ha! Just to get everybody into a tizzy again, this now indicates that Tyler Borchers is transferring. Again, a walk on. Based on his twitter account, he may have reconsidered his offer from Morningside. www.verbalcommits.com/schools/south-dakotaA walk-on leaving for a scholarship position is no big deal, and, quite frankly, should be congratulated. It is no different than many of the scholarship football players we get in lieu of walk-on invitations from Nebraska, Iowa, Minnesota, etc.

FWIW, I believe that there was great concern that DJ was going to leave before last season. He stayed, was a starter and played very well. My point in bringing this up is that I don't believe this to be a great shock. DJ has very good potential, but there was always something missing from a mental/emotional standpoint, in my opinion.
As for the other guys: Shy leaving was a healthy departure. He was a distraction and was having a negative impact on the team as a whole. His talent did not make up for his negative influence. This was, at a minimum, a mutual departure, if not an encouraged one.
Zach Dickerson was a walk-on - a transfer walk-on at that (from EIU where he was a WO).

You know what, I was bitter when he decided to leave and I am still bummed out, but this guy proved me wrong. As was said on here, there is still risk of the unknown at IWCC in the fall, but he set out with a specific plan in mind and was rewarded with an offer from the school he wanted to go to. Good for him.
I honestly cannot blame the kid in this case anymore. I was skeptical and didn't think this would come to fruition until after he played in the fall. I was wrong and will eat crow.
Now go out and be successful, AVG! (except against Nebraska...)

He is an athlete. Good size at 6'6" - 6'7". His stats don't paint the picture of a shooter. More of a slasher, rebounder, defender that likes to go to the rim. He seems like a good kid. Here is an interview with him: www.youtube.com/watch?v=qnkXArux1dQ&app=desktopAlthough he was the 6th man for NIC, the #3 JUCO in the country, he was getting starter minutes. In most of the games at the end of the year he was playing 25 minutes, about 8 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists. It appears that he can handle the ball pretty well. Much like Hurst, I suspect that we will not see him shooting it much from outside, however. Smith and Co. get 3 years to work with him, so that is huge.

Herbster said at Lunch with the U that all staff were going with Amy. They are not candidates for the job.

Yea,they could have thrown us a bone to chew on by now (no pun intended,I use this figure of speech a lot)....like how many people have shown interest so far ,maybe even a mention of some of the most notable ones....the fans are always thirsty for more information,it'd be wise to keep 'em happy and content ......besides,not hearing anything could be taken negatively, you know, that there's not a lot of interest,if the silence goes on for a prolonged time. They could lay these fears or concerns aside by simply providing a tad bit more information as to how well the process is proceeding. As a fan, I understand your wanting the information, but really, the tighter the lid on the process the better. Neither candidates nor the schools want everyone to know who is interested and who is spurned. Someone in the process will end up looking bad, or being offended. Hell, look at the Ryan Miller situation with the Jacks. Defiantly some hard feelings. JT was just doing his job as a nosy journalist, but Mike M reacted badly and publicly. Not a good look. No kidding. The SDSU board even had a fool on there claiming that the research the he and other message board members were doing on the candidates was considered due diligence and this person believed that, because he/she was a tax payer, he/she was entitled to a say in the hire. The delusion there was off the charts.

Any news regarding which assistants are heading to Nebraska? I was just at the Lunch with U in Sioux Falls and Herbster said that Amy is taking the staff with her. He also said that Amy contacted all of the recruits to tell them of her decision, David Williams followed-up with each of the recruits to discuss the coaching search and then Herbster contacted each of the recruits parents to discuss the next steps. At this time, all current players are returning and all recruits remain committed but that could always change after the new coach is hired. Herbster thought they would be able to make an announcement on a new coach in the week and half or so. This was spot on with what I heard there. In addition, Herbster said they are not using a search firm this time. They have been flooded with calls and both he and Williams are going to be working hard to narrow a huge pool of names into a small group of candidates that they will interview and/or conduct further due diligence on. Herbster said they will look for a person that follows the mold of Chad Lavin, Ryun Williams and Amy Williams. They will use the same criteria they have used in hiring Amy, Craig and Bob. These guys know what they are doing. They are trying to act in a timely fashion and, by all accounts, they are doing it the right way.

What was wrong with that one? You know the writer doesn't create the headline right? The media commentary on hear is nuts. I don't think anything was wrong with it. There just wasn't much 'right' with it - which was the sentiment of the coach replacement article. It was non-news when news-news was otherwise available. Maybe a spring FB article about the top 2 QB's or the offense the new coaches are putting in, etc., and then a story about the 3rd stringer's adjustment. I'm not trying to pile on Mick - his style is his style, and that won't change. I truly wonder if the WNIT run combined with the Skyforce & Herd runs have worn him down. 3rd stringer's adjustment? Buddy, I am going to tell you from my first hand account, Simmons is not 3rd string. Come Fall, I believe he is going to give Saeger a run for the starting position - and I really like Saeger. That was the point of the article. Woodward is a fine player and, out of necessity, was second string last year, but he isn't even on scholarship to my knowledge. I know from coaches comments last year that had there been a meaningful injury to Saeger last year, there would have been a very serious conversation about burning Simmons' redshirt and starting him. They did everything they could to insulate him because they wanted to maximize his impact on the field for as many years as possible. The last staff thought Simmons was the type of talent you can lift an entire team up with. It is similar to SDSU and Taryn Christian - we took the approach that burning Simmons' RS was not in our best interest. They took the opposite approach. I am not saying one is right or wrong. Just saying that our staff thinks very highly of Simmons' potential. That is a story most football fans are VERY interested in, I think.

gopheryote, the following is not targeted at you. It is a general statement: We have got to stop cannibalizing our own people. These guys are not employed by the University. They are journalists. They are not paid to write puff pieces - in fact, ethically, they are supposed to publish stories and "the facts." If we want a bunch of fluff, that is the job of the University, the marketing department and the SID. They can write all the fluff in the world, tweet it out, share it on facebook, etc. and then it is the job of the fans to push it out to the masses. Also, the Argus is not our enemy. It happens to be the State's overwhelming source of news. To that end, it has many people to serve. Just with regard to college athletics, it has USD, SDSU, Augie and USF. It is easy for Yankton, Brookings and Watertown to focus on one school. Likewise, as yoteforever has stated, Sioux City has no meaningful college to serve (Morningside?). Should USD focus on Sioux City? Yes! In lieu of Sioux Falls? Hell no. Why? The Argus doesn't serve Sioux Falls. It serves the overwhelming populous of East River South Dakota, NW Iowa, and SW Minnesota. Readership number will reflect that. I sure as hell don't want to make enemies with them. That would be poor strategy. News is a numbers game. They have stats that measure EVERYTHING written and published online. It is insane the amount of data they have. You want a news source to do more pieces on your school? When the articles are written, read them. Click on them. Share them. They know what is being read. Come on people - it doesn't take a rocket scientist to look around at the crowd at a Summit League Tournament game to know who is showing up, buying tickets and spending money. I hate it, but the truth hurts. Go Yotes!

The "Williams" piece was a blog post and is satire, not a traditional article that was published in the paper.
