126k could be just his base salary. I would assume there are bonus incentives to bring him up to market.
I echo Yote53’s comments about Joe Glenn and his judgment of talent as it relates to Wes. I would be willing to bet that Joe Glenn is better at assessing coaching talent than a few guys that post messages on a board. Given the fact that he’s won a couple national titles should be pedigree enough for most people… Give him a chance. Because a coach wasn’t successful in another system doesn’t mean that he won’t be highly successful in another.
Lastly, I need to correct CF. Jimmy Glow wasn’t a good player. He was a great player. And in regards to judging his coaching based on his record – He’s coaching in a D-111 environment – Non-Scholarship – completely different ballgame. The reason he took the job was to gain head coaching experience. Now that he’s had that experience, I’d be curious how it’s changed or perhaps further evolved his coaching style / expertise.

I agree that general foundation funds shouldn’t be spent on athletics, however, it appears that the Howling Pack is running donations through the USD Foundation as a designated fund to make donations tax deductible.
My question / ask is for the Howling Pack Board of Directors to consider redirecting a portion of these donations to supplement salaries an addition the support given to scholarships. Is this a possibility?

Is the USD Foundation able to be approached? They’re only sitting on about 150million in net assets. Hate to use a foundation arrangement for operation expenses, but there doesn’t seem to be a lot of other options. What are the legalities in a booster club supporting their salaries if it were done above board and publicly reported through a 501 C 3 arrangement? Older article, but interesting in the variations in compensation formulas & perks as it relates to coaches and their respective contracts. I like the idea of supplementing the coach’s salary with a percent of ticket sales. It’s objectionable, measurable and a direct result of winning or losing. www.usatoday.com/sports/college/football/2006-11-16-coaches-salaries-cover_x.htm

CF - I don't "down everything" as you started - Mainly just stuff that you say based on my perception of your point of view after reading your posts over the years.
I would agree 100% with coyotega that that we as fans will probably have not of heard of who the new head coach will be.... Big world out here with a lot of coaches. I would hope that given the abruptness and timing of this decision that David Sayler already has / had somebody in mind. This isn't something that Saylor woke up one morning and said, let's create some drama today.
CF - I know you weren't a fan of Ed, but one of the biggest losses will be Ed's ability to recruit. Stop for one minute and think of the sell that this guy had to make the last few years as it relates to D-1 transition, post season ineligibility, coaching transitions, the town, the climate, and entering arguably the top FCS conference in the country with the second lowest budget in the conference. A successful head coach has to have the ability to implement a recruiting program that penetrates markets that we've never had a presence in... ED did that. I hope the next head coach can continue to recruit in those markets and recruit new markets.
I also hope that stability in the coordinator positions will be addressed - Ed got into a tailspin of hiring GA's as position coaches and then promoting them to coordinators only to see them move on after one or two years in the position. For most of these guys the world as they new it happened at USD - little or no outside experience. We need to find head coach that brings at least one coordinator with him. Coordinators call the game - Not the head coach.

We should probably hurry up and get an offer out to Urban Meyer before Ohio State does.... I hear Joe Pa is looking for work too-Sure, he may be 85 and have what most would consider "baggage", but we should put him on the short-list.

Seriously, CF... Always suspected that you're not all there. Thanks for solidifying any doubts that I may have had. Fanatical overzealous fan, or delusional "dolt" as somebody previously described you. I'll take the second choice.

Even though you're from State, I have to agree with you.
Realistically the turnover at the coordinator positions needs to be addressed. It’s a revolving door – A stepping stone position in some sense. What’s the average tenure of the coordinator positions the last ten years? Two seasons, maybe?

Yoteforever, one of the more well written posts I've ever read.
There’s general criticism of USD & the athletic programs, and then there’s a whole new level that CF takes it to – It’s truly uncalled for. Every time he posts he vilifies a coach, a player, a program, an AD, and ultimately the school. I could do without ever hearing it to this level again.

"Plus, I didn't even add that SDSU had everything to lose and USD didn't. It would have been USDs superbowl for the year. What happens if SDSU loses? What does that do for recruiting then? It would have been a terrible idea to play USD at that time. Do I think SDSU would have won? Yes I do. But with that emotional rivalry game anything can happen. -- Look at the NDSU game when they came in ranked #1 and undefeated."
I’d suggest you guys just cancel the rest of your season with the “What happens if SDSU loses? What does that do for recruiting then?” questions…
Hopefully the SDSU AD has more of a litmus test than “What happens if we lose” when scheduling games…

As a Watertown resident and former player, this is LONG overdue.
Based on the sports coverage and retail sporting goods stores in Watertown, you wouldn't even know that USD exists. Everything that is sold or covered by the media in Watertown is Bunny-Blue. Makes me want to puke.

I find great humor that Jackrabbit fans are criticizing the new logo considering their attempt a few years ago to make a bunny look mean… Not to mention the marketing campaign a year or so ago to name the mascot – After extensive dollars and responses from loyal Jackrabbit fans they came up with “Jack”. Just remember, SDSU – “You can go anywhere from here”. They should change it to, “Would you like fries with your order”?
