Congrats on a big win! It is great having another team from South Dakota making a statement about women's basketball to the other teams in the Summit.

“I think they got a bad deal that in their first league game they had to come to Oakland,” said Kampe, whose Grizzlies who got their 30th consecutive home win in their first game ever against USD. “I don’t know if that was written in the agreement when they joined the league that they had to do that, but it wasn’t a good deal.” We don't his arrogance or a pitty party. Going there first might not be such a bad thing. Look at the bright side. The 'yotes are the only Summit team that doesn't have a trip to Oakland still looming ahead of them this season.

BTW the marching band thing went fine. Thanks for asking:-) UNO's band has been making appearances at games and such around Omaha this season since they don't have a team any more. I can't wait to see them march on the ice now that hockey season has started. I remember a couple of times when UNO's band came to Brookings. I remember that I genuinely enjoyed watching and listening to them.

I had to work today so I couldn't follow the coyotes. I just had an opportunity to go through your summary of the game. I didn't read every entry word for word, but thanks.
Some days don't go as well as planned.
Until next week, don.

The new guys on the block are never given any respect. You have to earn it. Consider the 10 rank a favor. Exceed expectations and you earn respect. Earning respect will never come easier for you than it will come this season. All you have to do is finish 9 or above. Finish a few places above that and you really earn the wow factor.

Hey, Jacks fans, this dead coyote on the billboard was not an inside job. This was some redneck, hillbilly Jacks fan that put it up there. How do I know? Because for as much as SDSU fans "claim" to take the high road and say the rivalry doesn't mean anything, SDSU fans got riled up by a billboard. Yep, a funny billboard that SDSU fans find "offensive" even though it's a pretty good marketing idea. If the billboard was such a bad idea, why didn't SDSU put something up there ... Ever since that billboard went up, it was only a matter of time before this happen and it was not a shock that an SDSU fan did this. SDSU fans always get mad when they did not think of something first basically, that way they can tell everyone they started it. An SDSU fan once told me throwing the rabbit onto the court is not cool because they started throwing coyotes onto the court. The "Beat State Not Your Wife" shirts were wrong, but it was okay for SDSU fans to throw carrots onto the court repeated to get USD technical fouls because refs thought it was USD fans? Yep, stay classy Brookings, and maybe pull that stick out of your aXX every once in a while. When you have as many fans as we have, you had to know somebody was going to do something!

Not to mention that even tho the bunnies break the bulb and fall off the ladder, it is on front pages sports banner while USD builds better bulb that runs off air and never burns out and can't be broken but ends up on page 4. Hey! When you're popular, you're popular!

I agree. They could try to salvage football and add some Cusa teams or go the basketball only route. The private non footballs may go after the Creighton, Butler, George Mason, VCU's, etc. The private alones would still make a decent basketball conference. Keep in mind that George Mason in a state university in Virginia.

I also forgot to mention that Terry Vandrovec would need to be onhand to write an indepth Argus article including some reference to the light bulb changing procedures at rival NDSU. You forgot about Stu Whitney. He would have to be there so he could add follow up questions about whether the new bulb was of the correct wattage and the proper type (incandescent vs. L.E.D., etc.) and whether light was really needed in the first place.

fssd, Well said and very thoughtful. I agree with what you are saying regarding the Summit/MVFC always having the complication element of football schools having different goals because of having a program, which drives the entire athletic department. As long as the Missouri Valley includes as many basketball only members as it does it will always be a crink to schools such as South Dakota, NDSU and SDSU. A possible and very desirable option for the future is for one all sports conference to develop consisting of current member of the Summit and MVC. As of now here is what that conference would look like. This is not including non schollie football. Please correct me if I get this list wrong. South Dakota SDSU NDSU Western Illinois Northern Iowa Southern Illinois Illinois State Indiana State Missouri State That is 9 and UND would very quickly make it a 10 team league. Very strong all sports league with like schools. This seems like a logical grouping, but I don't see the MVC schools jumping ship and moving to the Summit . . . . unless the non-football MVC schools try to move up to bigger money conferences. Stranger things have happened, but I don't think we will see it any time soon.

I have a question for everyone...when listening to the NCAA experts, when do they ever talk about the Big Sky teams in the Big Dance, because I NEVER hear it. It always seems that most of the time a Summit team is in, they are considered an upset bid and a team to look for, from NDSU to Oakland to Oral Roberts. I never, ever hear that about a Big Sky school, ever, nor have I ever considered picking a Big Sky school. Just saying, I think that shows that the Big Sky has football, but what else do they have, really? Basketball is below the Summit League, in both women's and men's. The Summit League is stronger in volleyball, too, from what I hear and from Kelli Fiegen going to an Olympic team. I think it's the "what could've been" syndrome. The Big Sky looks great, but just for football and just for it's name. After that, it's below the Summit. I tend to agree with you. I work with a Montana grad for whom there is football season and not football season. The other sports exist but I'm not sure anyone realizes it. I do recall a couple of pretty good basketball years for Montana a few years ago. It was during the time that Spearfish native Matt Martin played for them. I don't know how much he was the catalyst for the team but they did have some successful seasons. When I ask my co-worker about women's basketball, she simply doesn't know.

No, we aren't without sin, but for the last decade, SDSU fans have acted like they are without sin....Beat State, not your wife shirts...love how that was offensive but the actual act that caused it was not. The actual act (I suppose I should say illeged act to avoid being accused of libel), which most seem to assume really happened, was extremely offensive and totally unjustitifiable. It was also not a part of the rivalry between SDSU and USD athletics. It was a tragic action between two individuals, only one of which was associated with one of the aforementioned universtities. It had nothing to do with either university. It was a private event and any public discussion, if any, should have been in a court of law, not the court of tasteless t-shirts! I am not claiming perfection, just requesting that that jabs, verbal or otherwise, be limited to topics which are germaine to the athletic rivalry itself. I will seek to honor that request in my words, posts, and actions.

I hope you will cheer for my Jackrabbits today. I am one fan who feels that we South Dakota people can stand together when we aren't playing against each other. I will cheer for your Jacks ... This year. Next year in the MVFC... Probably not so much. ;D Fair enough. Your cheering and mine weren't very helpful to the Jacks today.
