Good luck today. I know very little about either team. I watched part of last year's championship game on TV in a sports bar. It wasn't the main attraction there than night but they were nice enough to have it on one of the smaller screens for me. Eastern Washington can be pretty explosive so you cannot be comfortable with a lead against them until the final ticks.
I hope you will cheer for my Jackrabbits today. I am one fan who feels that we South Dakota people can stand together when we aren't playing against each other.

Thanks fbalum.
I haven't been on campus since my daughter graduated in '08. I live in Sturgis so I don't get there without a good reason. I am glad that things are looking up as far as game day. I hope that a lot of people share your attitude about other foes other than former NCC teams. Eastern Washington coming to town should be pretty exciting. In the future you will learn to appreciate other conference foes and the good football they will play. Southern Illinois University and Youngstown State University come immediately to mind. I hope the others that I didn't mention will forgive me. It is a lot more exciting to look forward to Saturday all season long instead of just looking forward to the Saturday when SDSU and USD play.
Good luck this season.
Don.

Watched the Usd game on direct tv then went up to Brookings with some friends and took in the sdsu game. I know that I am setting myself up for a little smack here, but that is not my intent. How did you think the two universities (SDSU and USD) compare for the the game day experience for the fans, game and everything else included? I realize that USD was on the road and you either have to compare last year's USD gameday experience or wait a week to answer my question. I have not been at a USD game in about four years. On that particular day, I took in an afternoon USD game, leaving before the end of a USD blowout of St. Cloud State, and headed to Brookings for the evening game. At that time, USD had a long way to go to catch up, but I suspect that they have made up some of that difference.

So one of the kids I coach shows up for football practice and I notice underneath his red Vermillion jersey he is wearing an SDSU t-shirt. That kid won't be seeing much playing time. Need to teach them early about the error of wearing SDSU gear, especially while playing football in Vermillion. It is always good to hear that our high schools, wherever they may be in South Dakota, are preparing our young people to go anywhere in life. Thanks for the good news about this fine young man.

I think that part of the lopsided coverage is simply due to timing. SDSU went through the transition process first and for awhile was the only Division I school in the state. USD is only a year away from qualifying for post-season play in Division I athletics. I would expect that the coverage will get more even between the two universities as their D-I playoff status becomes equal, especially when USD qualifies one or more of its teams for post-season play. It seems like forever to get through transition, both officially and through the public's perception. The patience is about to pay off for Coyote fans. Only one more year to go.

I rather like the bunny with an attitude that we have now. I do wish we could have kept the Bugs Bunny version for the little kids, kind of like I liked the Wiley Coyote version of Charlie back in the day. I guess we both had to give in to Warner Brothers, or at least the fear that Warner Brothers would disapprove of us using their characters for mascots.
As for the black, our high school has black as one of its "colors". I have been noticing for years that other high schools who have colors such as red and white are using black either for their uniforms or their warm ups. I'm not sure where that started.

Do hard core true red bleeding red Yote Fans right now have an auro of jealousy when it comes to the Summit League tourney and all the god damn attention that the Jacks are getting right now. I really wonder whether USD would be getting this kind of attention if they were in the position that SDSU is in right now. I say not quite even if USD fans did fill the arena. Today I saw all those Rabbit fans congregating around the arena and it kind of sickened me thinking that this whole state loves the Jacks and looks at USD as a much lower second fiddle, whether it's true or not. That is one of the reasons that I get so upset after losses and why I honestly will still jump up and down in my livingroom during the good times. I want the Yotes to win so badly I can taste it. I wish more Coyote Fans would care and care alot more than they do. When I saw all the Jacks fans today it actually made me in a bad mood for awhile, wishing so badly that USD could be in this tourney and crush the Jacks right out of the Sioux Falls Arena. I would just love to see 4,000 Coyote fans screaming at the top of their lungs and rattling every bolt trying to will the Yotes to the NCAA tourney. Am I the only one that really cares that much and really want the Yotes to win that much? Does anyone else actually jump around in their livingroom when the Yotes get a big win. Does anyone else feel sick to their stomach when the team losses or gives off the vibe of having little hope of success. Does anyone else actually get butterflies of anxiety during big games whether being in the arena or sitting at home. I have had games where I have literally sat at the edge of my seat praying that every shot would go in, kind of like my personally willing good fortune and wanting it so bad would actually make it come true. Some of the edge has been taken off that attitude since the Jacks went D1 in 2003. Well, the feelings are starting to come back for me, that is for sure. I want so badly for USD to have success. It might not show every single day or in every single comment because when things don't go well I can go into a bit of a Coyote depression. That explains why my behavior can be so manic depressant because of my deep caring for what happens on the field. I guess I have a program and that is caring too much and during big events and games the reminder becomes very apparent. I am generally a postive thinker but when it comes to the Yotes I can get into moods where i feel like everyone is going to go wrong that can go wrong. As an example, it seems like the teams that have to travel to South Dakota for the post season tourney are starting to grumble more and more about the tourney being in Sioux Falls and what a big home court advantage it is for the Jacks. I agree and believe deep down that it is a definate unfair advantage. If enough schools cry foul my fear is that the year USD becomes tourney eligible is the year that tourney will disappear from Sioux Falls and the Coyote Fans won't be able to experience the same home cooking that SDSU fans have experienced. The Jacks got to host 3 or 4 mens regionals in the same timeframe where USD only got to host one over the past 2 decades. USD as a program was just as good but it seemed as if the selection committee never did USD any favors. I fear the same thing happens with the Summit tourney. I fear that USD stays in the Summit, with one of the big reasons being the post season tourney, and then it disappears in a flash. The press will latch on to three things: 1) Winners, 2) Losers, 3) The only game in town. For a few years, SDSU had the benefit of being the only D1 game in town. USD is in transition toward ending that. In two years USD has a chance to play on the same stage on which we saw SDSU play over the previous 3 or 4 days. SDSU has been successful on some of these occasions, winning 3 women's titles and a couple of first round victories for the men. SDSU has also scored conference titles in women's volleyball, women's soccer, and men's football. They have also had some success in other programs. Now, they get to compete with USD for that same press. However, USD will have to try harder because they never get to be that only D1 game in town. That's just the way it is. The other two things that the press loves will now come more into play, winners and losers. If one team wins more, or always loses, that team will get the press. Mediocrity will get no notice at all. We will see how that plays out, but not this season.

WRJ I sent you a personal message. Come say hi at the games. I didn't read your message until I got home after the game. Coyote Fan came out and we watched half of tonight's final game together. I enjoyed the visit. Thanks CF. I plan to be at the Tuesday afternoon game, maybe the night game too if the weather holds. Perhaps we'll meet up. It will be an awesome atmosphere when USD is playing in this tournament too, even if we don't end up playing against each other right away. It will happen. I hope it happens in Sioux Falls.

I only saw one guy in USD red yesterday. It might have been you. (West side - middle aged?).
I was hoping that USD fans would attend, and believe that you should support your team.

Since this isn't my board or my team's board, I will pass on making a vote on this question. However, I will comment on my experiences. I frequently go to our opponents boards. Some are very friendly about welcoming guests representing their opponents (us). However, I cannot recall ever being allowed to post without registering. It is also a major pain where I sit if I cannot read posts without registering. Besides, I have found that those boards usually aren't very good anyway -- being so restrictive and all. I have registered on a number of opponents boards, just like I have here, and enjoy an occasional discussion with their fans.
Let the Coyote fans who post here decide!

I had a nice chat with the mayor of one of our fine west river communities a while back. (I will protect his confidentiality by not naming him). The mayor told me that in a personal conversation with the governor that the governor openly admitted that he fully expects this year's budget cuts to make South Dakotans angry enough that they will readily accept new taxes a year from now. However, he doesn't want to appear to be revoking the conservative promise of cutting, or at least not raising, tases. In other words, he thinks it is better to damage or destroy programs for the sake of politics rather than try to get some additional revenues through this year.

I plan to attend for my very first time (if the weather conditions allow for unstressed travel across South Dakota.) I bought my tickets in late summer or early fall. The Jackrabbit section was sold out long before I got my tickets. I think the lady at the window in the arena sold me tickets in the heart of the Oral Roberts section.
I do hope to see a number of USD fans in attendance. A display of a wider fan base should only increase the confidence of the Sioux Falls group which puts together the bid to host the tourney to continue to be aggressive as they submit future bids to keep it in Sioux Falls. And if anyone care, I think you should be fully decked out in your red and white Coyote wear. There might be a few fans there from the other schools. Let's show them that the state of South Dakota loves their teams, whether they are in red or blue!

I come to the board to get quick and concise statements about what is going on at USD. I enjoy reading posts about both athletic and non-athletic happenings.
I usually only read the short posts.
