Just sat down to watch the Western Illinois men take on Oregon State in the CBI and find that WI had one player quit the team and 2 others suspended for violating team rules and not suited. Not exactly the follow-up to the Summit championship game I was expecting.

One of the first, if not the first, facilities to get the field turf that can be rolled up was UNI. I am thinking our game against the Panthers in 2009 was their first game on the new Mondo turf.

In looking at Drake, the ladies will be facing a team that is playing well of late. They feature the MVC player of the year, a 6'3" center who is averaging over 19 and 12 on the season. No one else on the team averages over 10 points. There is no way this will be an easy game, but I have to believe the Yotes match up well here. Teams have struggled to do well inside against the ladies all season and I expect their post will have to work hard as well. Their second and third leading scorers are 5'5" guards.
As long as the Yotes don't have a game long shooting slump (it has happened), they should be able to take this game.

I, for one, am fine with the Jacks winning. NDSU didn't all of a sudden take the world over when they won in their first try and in fact are still trying to get back to the conference championship game since that win. Bottom line, recruiting is always difficult, but it is not impossible. I feel the excitement and atmosphere that is created by this can actually help when it comes to recruiting to USD and the conference.
As far as home court advantage, this will clearly be the last year that State gets to enjoy it to the level they have to this point. I doubt that we will see more Coyote red than State blue in many of the sessions, but the fact remains that every Yote fan that buys a ticket will be one less Jack fan to give them the home court. And there will be Yote fans there, that I can guarantee.

Got our tickets for next year. Lines were long but the wait was worth it as we are in the lower level seating area. Interesting to note how high the demand for next year apparently is. We got tickets for this year's first evening session on the day before at the box office. I went online this afternoon (28 hours after they first went on sale) to check what is available for seating for the 2013 tournament and found that the best available seating for next year's tourney is in the same section and 6 rows lower than what we bought on Friday. There was nothing great about these seats either as they are at the end past the basket. And the tourney gets to hold our money for a year.
The one thing that is clear is the new events center and its increased seating can't be competed soon enough for this tournament.

Congratulations to Amber for first team all-conference and Jodie for defensive player of the year. I must say I am disappointed that Amber didn't win POY, but Luper is an amazing player as well and stacks up very well in the nation in a few statistical categories. She is no doubt deserving as well and was a fun player to watch.
Good job, ladies and congrats to all the Yotes on a fun first Summit season!!!!!

I know we will be buying ours on Saturday. I think the XDSU's recognize that the Arena will only fill that much faster now with the addition of the Yotes so many of their fans will be buying for next year this weekend. I am afraid that if I wait until next year to buy, the quality of the available seats won't be as good as I would like.

All other factors being equal, do you give it to the player from the team that is new to the conference or the player from the team that is leaving the conference? I would like to think neither one of these should/would be deciding criteria. However, anytime the selection has a subjective element to it, anything can happen. Who votes and decides....coaches, media, league staff??? Looking at league game only stats, it feel it tilts towards Amber. But Luper is an extremely special player, no doubt about it.

I think Luper has 4 as well. Below is from the Summit site. This does not include the one Amber just received yesterday. Also, Amber was Player of the Month for both December and January.
Previous 2011-12 honorees: Nov. 15 - Kevi Luper, ORU; Nov. 22 - Amber Hegge, USD; Nov. 29 - Kevi Luper, ORU; Dec. 6 - Stephanie Rosado, IPFW/Kevi Luper, ORU; Dec. 13 - Brittany Carnago, OU; Dec. 20 - Amber Hegge, USD; Dec. 27 - Ashley Eide, SDSU; Jan. 3 - Dayon Hall-Jones, UMKC; Jan. 10 - Bethany Watterworth, OU; Jan. 17 - Katie Comello, IUPUI/Carli Moreland, SUU; Jan. 24 - Amber Hegge, USD; Jan. 31 - Bethany Watterworth, OU; Feb. 7 - Kevi Luper, ORU.

Very proud of the ladies effort tonight. They had so many opportunities to drop their heads and let the game slip away but they always believed. Both teams played excellent defense and it was hard fought all the way. At one point late in the game, the Jacks made a high shot that looked like it was going to bank in off the shot clock, banked in a 3 pointer and then made a highly contested shot to score just in front of the shot clock. I honestly thought it was over then but the girls believed.
Have to really compliment Alexis for the pressure she kept on Young all night. Baseline to baseline, she was on her all night. Jill is great and made some tough 3's, but nothing came easy for her.

If the ladies are hopeful of a WNIT bid at the conclusion of the season, a win tonight would go a long ways towards helping get there. They would obviously need to cover the other 5 games on their schedule after tonight as well, but of the remaining games a win tonight would do their RPI the most good.

Yotes give up a 16-4 run to lose a 12 point lead. Then score the next 4. Up by 4 with 59 seconds left.

The ladies played a good first half at Tulsa and lead Oral Roberts 39-29 at the half. Another solid half like that and it will be their best conference win to date.
