For whatever it is worth, in Craig Smith's second year as head coach at USD, the Yotes conference record was 5-11 and they got bounced 86-70 by IPFW in the 1st round of the SLT. I did notice that when going back through the years. That was the year the Summit had its highest ranking since USD joined too though. We had just graduated Bos and Larson, and decided to tie up 3 scholarships in transfers who couldn't play the whole season, so it was obvious that the year was being sacrificed for the future. Also our final year playing in the Dome which could not have been easy to recruit players to. I remember having little faith in beating IPFW in the SLT because they had some studs. Max Landis and John Konchar was a deadly combo. Not quite the same as the ORU team we just lost to. I'm rambling. At first glance it is interesting to see the same exact conference record as 2015-16. We are in a whole different world now though.

The state of the Summit definitely amplifies this poor season. The composite NET rankings have the Summit as 25th out of 32 conferences. It's not a good conference usually, but this is basically as bad as it has ever been. The initial season of NET rankings back in 2019 also had us 25th, but 1-6 spots higher every year in between. RPI ratings before 2019 usually had the Summit in the teens, even peaking as high as 12th in 2015-16.
This conference appears to be at its lowest and somehow we find ourselves at the bottom of this deepest valley. We should regularly be near the top of a league like this. Our current situation is wildly unacceptable. Just tremendously embarrassing. If we don't see drastic improvements next year we need to be looking elsewhere.

Peterson should get another year. That seat should be boiling though.

Unquestionably the worst Coyote team i have ever seen. I'm just thankful we don't have to get embarrassed by state tomorrow. Instead we get to lose in the very first play-in game. Hooooooray.

The lack of experience this team has in the conference tournament seems like a negative. At least they get an introduction in a less full Denny against ORU instead of being dumped right into the State-U game?

Clinched dead last with this loss. It looks like if Oral Roberts beats UMKC tomorrow we will face Denver in the play-in round. An ORU loss of course means we play ORU.
GATA baby!

The first mock draft I found on a google search had Harden going in the 6th round. Not sure if that accounts for a very impressive combine showing. Could be the first Coyote drafted since Tyler Starr in the 2014 draft (7th round).

They sold it out in 17-18 when both the men and women played for the ship if my memory serves me correctly. I was at both those games and there is no way it was sold out. Not unless they only opened a small part of the upper bowl. I remember weather being an issue during that tournament.

I cancelled my subscription as basketball is coming to an end. $10 a month for this service is a joke. Many of the road broadcasts are absolute shit. Quality seemed better when it was packaged with my existing ESPN+ subscription. Very glad I could pay extra money for a worse product. Looking forward to doing it again next year since I doubt the non-Dakota schools are going to fix their broadcasts even with all the big bucks coming from the Summit League Network.

It takes time to build a program, but this program is so disconnected from the mantra of GATA that Peterson had been pushing (is he still? I haven't watched an interview in a long time). If that's the coaching philosophy then we should never give up 82 PPG in conference play no matter the roster. That's what has me concerned. Can these guys coach? Peterson only had two seasons as a head coach previously and it was way down in the JUCO ranks.
Season isn't over yet, I guess, and Peterson obviously will be back next year. I think he will be on the hot seat though.

Could be telling that Peterson decided that GATA would be this team's identity, and we have seen anything but that.

I still think about how Umude basically didn't play at all as a freshman. Burned that redshirt for him to get 3 minutes per game. Craig Smith recruited a future NBA player to Vermillion and never used him. Wild stuff.

USD fans receive offers from the ticket office to buy into the block of USD tickets at the Summit tournament. I'm sure that opportunity ended a while ago. It's all general public at this point.

It is going to take something remarkable for USD to avoid playing on Friday in Sioux Falls. 2.5 games back of 7th with 4 games to go and a lot of unfavorable tiebreaker scenarios. I'm not sure winning all 4 remaining games would be enough.
I just hope to see encouraging results sustained over the home stretch. I know this team can beat anyone anywhere in this league. Most of the year a win would be followed by an abysmal stretch. They finally have strung together 4 straight competitive games, with 3 of those on the road, so hopefully coming home will translate to a few wins and momentum heading into the SLT.
