This is a great opportunity for the Coyotes. It was hard to tell if progress was being made or not, but to the casual fan it looked like we were walking in quick sand. The USD WBB job still has a strong brand as opposed to what it might’ve been if we continued down the path we were on. It didn’t feel like we had any “mojo” to me. My guess is the pool of candidates will be very strong, and that’s why timing is everything.
Some of you have referenced the young lady at Minnesota State. Or Coach Jewitt. Another consideration would be a top assistant at a Power 5 school that has had sustained success over a period of years. I would think a regional hire makes sense but then again Amy came from Oklahoma and Dawn came from Kentucky. However both had strong midwestern ties.
So really at the end of the day AD Schemmel will hire the best coach he can. Man or woman. I expect our program to rebound quickly with the renewed energy coming in. Funding it for success is key. Schemmel addressed that at Calling All Coyotes. We have to step up our game in many areas and do so quickly. I think we’re going to get a great hire.

Summary of Minutes Returning in 2025 (as of now):69% Kansas City (1 All-Summit) 67% South Dakota (1 HM All-Sum) 63% NDSU
47% Denver 43% North Dakota 35% St Thomas 28% SDSU 24% Oral Roberts I’m feeling pretty confident in a Yotes rebound season (pun intended). Barring any big time transfer hauls (which ORU is certainly capable of), I’d consider us top half of the conference along with UMKC and our Dakota cousins. Even if I weren’t a betting man, I’d put money on SDSU restocking talent pretty easily. That’s just giving credit where it’s due. Do you think this theory of a rebound season is a slam dunk?

Check out the hot dog stand in near corner right side of end zone. Talk about low overhead.

Home of spring practice and fall games before dome. If you look at the photo and make it bigger you’ll see a white car on right side parked by the stadium. The door on the right was the training room. Door on left was locker room.
Times have changed, huh?

A couple things... First, being recruited by one set of coaches, and having a relationship with them, especially as a 17- or 18-year-old going far from home, is a big thing. Arriving on campus to a completely different set of coaches, whom you have not talked to at all, can really affect you. Sometimes players can work through this, sometimes they cannot. It depends on both the coaches and the players, a combination of the two. Second, it is a two-way street. In most cases, players will get out of a program some multiple of what they put in. There are exceptions, as in my daughter’s first year, at New Mexico. No amount of “putting in” was going to give her anything back from that coaching staff. In that case, it is better to cut your ties and move on. Hannah was fortunate to come to South Dakota, where coaches, especially Kayla, worked with her during her redshirt year to develop areas that she needed work on. She was also fortunate that she had a redshirt year to do this, where she wasn’t being criticized during games or on a message board. Third, these are young ladies, many of whom have not been away from home. They do have people talking to them, advising them, and sometimes they have to stand up for themselves, and do what they think is best for themselves. Sometimes that means going home. Sometimes it doesn’t. But, the best thing that we can offer is to support these young ladies, who played their hearts out for our team, be it for one year or five years. Period. Fourth, you may think you do, but you do not have any idea what these young ladies go through in the name of sport. The toll that it takes on their bodies, on their minds, on their personal relationships. They really do give it all, making many personal sacrifices, and many of them come out with lifelong aches and pains, all in the name of playing college basketball. We are not to question their decisions, their choices, for their lives. We just need to support them. Exceptional post. Words hurt.

I literally was just told this story right before Jay posted it. This speaks volumes of why I support Coyote athletics. If you sit back and think about it, the only sport we can win a National Championship in is football. It’s because we have our own division in which we compete. Other team sports we go against schools with budgets that are exponentially greater than we’ll ever be. So why do we field athletic teams when we literally have zero chance to win it all other than football? One answer is for regional bragging rights. We want to beat our rivals. The other is conference championships. Order the rings. But this story tells me we are supporting something bigger than that. We’re supporting the development of young women and men to come to USD a wide eyed freshman and leave USD ready to make the world a better place. It doesn’t always work out that way as we know, but when it does I can honestly say I lean back and say “damn, we made a difference”. What these girls did was remarkable supporting the Holmes family and in particular, their teammate. During the season we all question why they did this or that, but I’m guessing no one’s going to question why they made this trip and the reflection it has on the program. If these are the kind of young ladies and men were kicking out, I’m proud as hell. Congratulations USD womens basketball for doing the right thing. You’re winners

I couldn’t disagree with you anymore. Part of building a winning culture is thinking like a winner. Knowing you’re going to be in every game. I’m telling you and every other skeptic that the culture in the locker room has changed. The recruiting has stepped up. The quality of players is significantly better. The coaching staff is unified. The playoff game against NDSU was not good. No one ever said it was. But that’s not going to be the norm into the future. The only thing that could potentially derail continued success is NIL. NDSU and SDSU has money. We don’t. That being said new AD Schemmel is addressing this now. It’s one of many issues he’s got to deal with and get fixed. If you look at when SDSU started their overall success in their athletic department it was roughly 15 years ago. They hired Justin Sell from UNI and he has done a fantastic job. He’s one great AD for our level. Mark down January 1st of this year for future references but I’m betting AD Schemmel is going to be the same. He’s not afraid to address the issues that need to be addressed. He’s already made changes that’s going to accomplish (2) things. First, he’s replacing people that were lazy and didn’t do their jobs. Secondly, he’s put everyone on notice that mediocrity won’t be accepted. That goes for coaches right down to support staff. That’s what winners do. They make tough decisions. Football is going to be a priority and the affects have already been felt. Now he’s got to raise the $$$ to get it done. From season ticket sales to sponsorships to NIL. It won’t happen overnight but it needs to happen. If USD football consistently wins then the other programs win as well. In closing, this team is being built for sustainability. It’s no longer sticking your finger in the dam to try and plug holes. This team will win. In addressing last years team and winning all the so called close games, there’s only (2) that I felt we weren’t in total control. Youngstown State at home and Southern Illinois on the road. We won both, and we were the better team. But especially Southern Illinois could’ve gone either way. It’s no fluke what our record was. We are there. We now have to take that last step and advance further in the playoffs. I know the team believes it, we need to believe it. There’s absolutely no one on our schedule we can’t beat at home or on the road with exception of Wisconsin. That would be a monumental upset. Not so sure about that. Fickell is completely changing the identity of Wisconsin Football and that change is a bumpy road. Would not be shocked if we won that game. Would not be shocked if we got blown out. I would not be shocked about anything I see in college football anymore. Understood. Logic says we don’t win. I guess that was my point.

From reviewing your posts you seem to think that we won’t win all close games again (reasonable) and that we won’t be as good to start the season due to losing so much on defense (also reasonable). But can you elaborate some on where we might have exploitable weaknesses? You’re probably right about 7-8 regular season wins being what we should expect, but I also think we have a very forgiving first 6 games in which we should get a nice little 5-1 fast start. We're still not ready to play with the big boys of the FCS on a week in week out basis. That was obvious the way NDSU pounded us into the ground in the playoffs. You could chalk that up as the outlier but I think the game early in the season was more likely the outlier. I think either Montana school would probably have whooped us pretty good too. That will be my belief until we prove otherwise. I will be generally skeptical until we can put together multiple seasons in a row where we are relevant. We've never done it before. The way I look at it, you have 2 built in losses every year in the league. After that you have to beat the teams you should beat and play your best against the toss ups. Don't get me wrong. We were good last year and trending in the right direction but we're second tier at best right now. I couldn’t disagree with you anymore. Part of building a winning culture is thinking like a winner. Knowing you’re going to be in every game. I’m telling you and every other skeptic that the culture in the locker room has changed. The recruiting has stepped up. Where is Holmes? What have I missed or forgot? Her dad passed away unexpectedly a few days before the Summit League Tournament so I'm guessing that she's not back on campus. What about our coach? Was she there tonight or did I miss something there? I’m so sorry. I didn’t know that. Prayers flowing to Holmes family

Last call if anyone’s interested in helping Coach Williamson get the Taraflex floor. She’s about $20k short of the $125k goal. If you are considering it I would suggest you PM me with an amount. Don’t give it on that 1 day campaign coming up because the Foundation takes a fee. You want 100% of your gift to go towards the floor. Thanks for considering.

The floor will be good for the athletes as it’s far more giving than wood. Iowa State, Creighton, and Nebraska to name a few currently play on this surface. Coach W runs an elite program and it’s a fantastic recruiting tool.
Thanks for considering
