Yes. His high school film looks electric, but he’ll need time to adapt. Adapt?? The new transfer QB started 3 games at an FBS Group of 5 school and got time in another game. I'm pretty sure he has adapted to the college game by now and will have the summer to learn our offense. I think he was referring to the incoming freshman

Good for him. It just goes to show you don’t have to transfer to bigger schools with higher profile to be seen. A lot of MVFC kids make it these days.
I wish Myles nothing but success. He deserves it

With today’s announcement of Noah Shepard being named USD’s new president and CEO of our foundation, it’s very apparent that the future of this school and the athletic department has never been brighter. These two young bucks are smart, passionate, and will work their butts off. Great family people, and certainly are Coyotes to the core.
Rome wasn’t built in a day, but we’re on that path. Jon and Noah will be a team like no other in the Summit or MVFC. The energy that will be coming out of those buildings will be impressive. USD is on the move, and on the move in a big way. My heartfelt thanks goes out to Kevin Doyle and Ryan Taylor for their profound leadership in making these changes. I’m also very grateful for former Coyote Russ Dokken to give his time, talent, and effort in making sweeping changes while he served in an interim role.
I have never been more pumped for where we’re going. USD is on the move. Those aren’t just words….its an invitation for all of us to jump on board and be a part of change. What a great time to be a Coyote.

The last (4) years under Kevin Stefanski the Browns have been 37-30 with (2) 11 win seasons. My point is any of these guys would give an arm and a leg to be drafted anywhere in the NFL. You could argue they’re up and coming. I know they’re not the Chiefs or Bills ( yet anyway ) but it’s not like it’s the WFL.
I’ll support Myles wherever he lands. He could’ve bolted last year but had the integrity to stay. It says an lot about his character.

I don’t know Coach Jewett at all. I’m sure he’s one heck of a nice guy. I’m also sure the girls would support that hire as it would be a “safe” pick because they are comfortable with him. I have ZERO clue if he’s capable of succeeding as a head coach or not. I’m reasonably certain he will at minimum be on the short list.
One thing I can 100% guaranty you about is AD Schemmel being influenced by boosters and those close to the program. I’m dead sure he’d listen to those that he respects, but ultimately he’s going to be the one that decides. In (4) months he’s proven he’s not afraid to make hard decisions.
I would bet the consulting firm has a long list of qualified candidates. We will get a coach that passes the sniff test for sure. It might be Coach Jewett, it might be a sitting head coach at a very successful smaller school like the young lady at Minnesota State, or it could be an associate head coach of a Power 5 school that is ready to be a head coach.
There are “I told you so” risks with each hire I listed above. If it’s Mike, and he is less than spectacular, the boo birds come out of the closet saying “I told you so”. If it’s someone like the young lady at Minnesota State and they aren’t hugely successful, then the same group comes out of the closet saying they couldn’t succeed at the next level. If it’s the assistant coach, like Coach Jeske as some suggested off Dawns staff or a coach like that, and they don’t succeed the same group comes out saying never hire a coach that doesn’t have a head coaching track record.
Schemmel will hire one heck of a coach. The other side of success is supporting that program. It isn’t free
We have turned the corner in my opinion on the direction we’re going as a department. But we’re only 1-2 steps in on where we have to be. My advice is sit back and enjoy this process. This is Jon’s first major sport hire. He deserves our support. Whoever he chooses, lets back him and the new coach with all you have.

This is a great opportunity for the Coyotes. It was hard to tell if progress was being made or not, but to the casual fan it looked like we were walking in quick sand. The USD WBB job still has a strong brand as opposed to what it might’ve been if we continued down the path we were on. It didn’t feel like we had any “mojo” to me. My guess is the pool of candidates will be very strong, and that’s why timing is everything.
Some of you have referenced the young lady at Minnesota State. Or Coach Jewitt. Another consideration would be a top assistant at a Power 5 school that has had sustained success over a period of years. I would think a regional hire makes sense but then again Amy came from Oklahoma and Dawn came from Kentucky. However both had strong midwestern ties.
So really at the end of the day AD Schemmel will hire the best coach he can. Man or woman. I expect our program to rebound quickly with the renewed energy coming in. Funding it for success is key. Schemmel addressed that at Calling All Coyotes. We have to step up our game in many areas and do so quickly. I think we’re going to get a great hire.

Summary of Minutes Returning in 2025 (as of now):69% Kansas City (1 All-Summit) 67% South Dakota (1 HM All-Sum) 63% NDSU
47% Denver 43% North Dakota 35% St Thomas 28% SDSU 24% Oral Roberts I’m feeling pretty confident in a Yotes rebound season (pun intended). Barring any big time transfer hauls (which ORU is certainly capable of), I’d consider us top half of the conference along with UMKC and our Dakota cousins. Even if I weren’t a betting man, I’d put money on SDSU restocking talent pretty easily. That’s just giving credit where it’s due. Do you think this theory of a rebound season is a slam dunk?

Check out the hot dog stand in near corner right side of end zone. Talk about low overhead.

Home of spring practice and fall games before dome. If you look at the photo and make it bigger you’ll see a white car on right side parked by the stadium. The door on the right was the training room. Door on left was locker room.
Times have changed, huh?

A couple things... First, being recruited by one set of coaches, and having a relationship with them, especially as a 17- or 18-year-old going far from home, is a big thing. Arriving on campus to a completely different set of coaches, whom you have not talked to at all, can really affect you. Sometimes players can work through this, sometimes they cannot. It depends on both the coaches and the players, a combination of the two. Second, it is a two-way street. In most cases, players will get out of a program some multiple of what they put in. There are exceptions, as in my daughter’s first year, at New Mexico. No amount of “putting in” was going to give her anything back from that coaching staff. In that case, it is better to cut your ties and move on. Hannah was fortunate to come to South Dakota, where coaches, especially Kayla, worked with her during her redshirt year to develop areas that she needed work on. She was also fortunate that she had a redshirt year to do this, where she wasn’t being criticized during games or on a message board. Third, these are young ladies, many of whom have not been away from home. They do have people talking to them, advising them, and sometimes they have to stand up for themselves, and do what they think is best for themselves. Sometimes that means going home. Sometimes it doesn’t. But, the best thing that we can offer is to support these young ladies, who played their hearts out for our team, be it for one year or five years. Period. Fourth, you may think you do, but you do not have any idea what these young ladies go through in the name of sport. The toll that it takes on their bodies, on their minds, on their personal relationships. They really do give it all, making many personal sacrifices, and many of them come out with lifelong aches and pains, all in the name of playing college basketball. We are not to question their decisions, their choices, for their lives. We just need to support them. Exceptional post. Words hurt.

I literally was just told this story right before Jay posted it. This speaks volumes of why I support Coyote athletics. If you sit back and think about it, the only sport we can win a National Championship in is football. It’s because we have our own division in which we compete. Other team sports we go against schools with budgets that are exponentially greater than we’ll ever be. So why do we field athletic teams when we literally have zero chance to win it all other than football? One answer is for regional bragging rights. We want to beat our rivals. The other is conference championships. Order the rings. But this story tells me we are supporting something bigger than that. We’re supporting the development of young women and men to come to USD a wide eyed freshman and leave USD ready to make the world a better place. It doesn’t always work out that way as we know, but when it does I can honestly say I lean back and say “damn, we made a difference”. What these girls did was remarkable supporting the Holmes family and in particular, their teammate. During the season we all question why they did this or that, but I’m guessing no one’s going to question why they made this trip and the reflection it has on the program. If these are the kind of young ladies and men were kicking out, I’m proud as hell. Congratulations USD womens basketball for doing the right thing. You’re winners
