I understand the frustration with the Yotes play, TOs, Penalties, and the kicking game is really puzzling, but I don't get the hating on the Griz. They are a talented football team, I don't think they are overrated. The Bizon might handle them, but I think they would do pretty well against the rest of the Valley. One positive from my view was the DBs. I don't think they will see a better receiving corps the rest of the year, and they covered pretty well.

Coyote secondary played great given their experience level. Montana went to the run more because of that. Montana FG kicking bad as was Coyote punting. Miles is doing a GREAT job with FGs and XPs--hasn't missed any yet!! We need to recruit a great punter to relieve him of that duty. Coyote personal foul penalty kept MT drive alive for a TD and a really short punt set MT up 24 yds out. Can't make those mistakes against a very good team. MT defense is very good and will give XDSU some problems and if MT can pass the ball too the game will be closer than people think.

On SDSUFans.com, I had guessed Montana would beat USD by only a touchdown. If USD could just eliminate some propensity to shoot itself, a lot of people in Missoula would be upset tonight.
I think NDSU deserves it's #1 ranking and should hold it until someone takes it from them. But, I think next week's game in Fargo will be no more than a 12 point margin. Best guess: NDSU 24, UM 12.
Coyotes can take some good lessons away from tonights game and build on them for the remainder of the season. Problem is, for all teams in the MVFC: the Valley is going to be a dog fight and likely everyone gets hurt at least a little.

I just don't think Montana will be much of a threat. USD was able to get pressure while only rushing 4. NDSUs defensive front is more effective and experienced. Their DL will also not consistently get driven off the LOS. Unless Montana connects on several long pass plays, I don't think Montana will have much success. NDSU also most likely won't have 3 turnovers and two punts (one 8 yds, another 18 yds) that act as two more turnovers. How many games are won with 5 turnovers? USD receivers were open frequently - my guess is so will NDSUs, the difference will be that their QB will actually complete passes to them. After the first quarter, USD had success on the ground. NDSUs ground game has been stronger than USDs, so I would imagine they will have success too. Also playing in the Fargo Dome will be a wake up call for Montana - toughest venue in FCS and probably top 20 in all of college football. 38-17 Bison

I want to give Saeger the benefit, but I feel like I am just watching JMV again. Holds the ball too long, lacks accuracy. Tough kid. Athletic.
I want Earl back yesterday, literally.

The Griz tried to give us the game, but our boys were just too darn polite to take it.
I thought the DBs tackled well, disappointed they had so many opportunities.

After watching the game on TV I am concluding: 1) we need a new punter; 2) we need to develop, if that's possible, a short passing game; 3) we need more confidence.
I got the feeling we hung with Montana and did a pretty good job of it thanks to Montana's lousy field goal kicking and a decent Coyote defense. Our offense isn't going to scare too many defenses, but with a loud home crowd and an offense that gets in attack mode (number 3 above) we could still win some games.
My take away is to somehow get to the home games and support this team to the hilt. They can get the job done on any given Saturday.

I would have loved to see Earl play, I'm sure he would have helped the Yotes put up 30+ Points against them last night. That was Saeger's first start against an FCS opponent, I think you have to give him time to adjust. He played better in the 2nd half than the first. We have one more game before conference, hopefully he's a quick study.

I don't mean to put Saeger down, but I'm very confident we would have won that game if Earl was available. It was his first start against an FCS team, but Saeger still has a bit more developing to do. Very frustrating that we couldn't get this one. I really, really wanted this victory, I wanted to see the Yotes get a real big landmark victory, but instead we had yet another close one. The defense held together way better than I expected, that's a real good sign going forward this year and into the future.
We absolutely have to win our next one against Northern Arizona or this could turn out to be a very long season. The team is going to need this win so that they have something to rally behind (moral victories only work for so long), because after NAU we are in for a brutal stretch of three very tough road games and two home games against premier FCS competition. I know our guys can do it, but I believe there is a lot more importance to this game than meets the eye.

Special teams suck. They have sucked for a few years now. I think it is time to find a special teams coach that at least make it look like the special teams have a clue as to what they are doing.

Increased TOP and being in control of that game offensively would have made for an easy 14 point swing. I could have seen the Yotes winning that one going away 32-20 or something to that effect if we had our starting QB. That's not really a knock an Saeger, just the reality that he is young and not quite prepared to take over the reigns yet. Montana is in for a beating when they go to Fargo.

Coyotes cracked The Sports Network FCS poll receiving votes (2) after giving the 4th ranked Griz a game, at their place, with a backup QB. At least they know we have a FB program...he,he

Listened to the Coyote Report tonight on the radio. Coach Glenn was on as usual along with Coach Tripplett (special teams coach)
Of note:
Glenn said he really got after the players when they got back from Montana. He was his usual positive self but I sensed are real pissed off coach underneath. Can't keep losing close games - it is time to step up. We will see. He mentioned that Nick Jacobs will be held out another 3 games because of illness. Sam McLeran will be held out two games with shoulder issues.
Coach Triplett was pretty positive on special teams as a whole. He even said that the kicker is doing a great job on kickoffs. The other teams we are playing are getting much better starting field position than USD. Special teams has not been a strength for a long time for the Coyotes.
