According to Jeremy Hoeck in the Yankton Paper - "Mason Ruiz has started practicing with the team (his status remains uncertain)."
Would be nice to get a bigger body available to rotate in at DL - hope he can play. Anyone heard anything?

Good win for the Yotes. Let's keep moving forward now. If the Good Guys don't muff that punt after NAU had been forced to a 3 and out I seriously doubt the score would have been as close.
Now get healed up some more over the bye week and get after South Illinois.
Go Yotes!

Congrats to the Coyotes. More evidence of the overall strength of the MVFC.

Yotes win 28-21! As stated before, had we not muffed that punt NAU probably wouldn't have even made a game of this one in the second half. It's usually near impossible to win when your QB completes just 6 of his 15 passes, but NAU wasn't able to do anything to stop our running game. If you average 5.4 YPC you are going to score a lot of points, I'm so glad we have such a talented and deep group of running backs this year. I am again confused as to why Kilgore was not used at all, I thought he was supposed to also be playing a role in the running game this year and had several carries against Oregon.
Everyone who questioned our run defense after the William Penn game can officially suck a lemon. Only 73 yards allowed on the ground today! Ruiz was playing, I heard his name called at least once, so there is little more depth on the line going forward too. Very satisfied with the defense today, my only worry remaining is whether or not our guys can stop the long ball. We looked pretty bad when NAU wanted to throw deep, that could make games get out of hand very quickly. Loved seeing our guys intercept three passes! Didn't think I'd see that anytime soon with an inexperienced secondary.
Muffed punt aside, I don't know how anyone can ridicule our special teams play today. Bergner booted another pair of FGs, and had two amazing punts that put them within the ten, if not the five!
Having to wait two weeks for our next game is going to hurt the fan in me, but it will give us a chance to get as healthy as possible before heading into 8 straight weeks of the toughest FCS conference. Southern Illinois was ranked 13th in this week's FCS poll. They've looked fantastic this year, hopefully Western Illinois can give them hell and rough them up a bit before we travel out to Carbondale.
Go Yotes!!!!

Great job guys. Ended up closer than it should have been, but that's ok. I like when a team has its mettle tested and you end up passing the test. Here's what I liked, when we had to run the ball to run out the click, we did just that. NAU knew we were going to run, they stacked the box, yet couldn't stop us. Kudos to the offensive line for that. Secondly, our defense did a great job today. All across the board, and that's great to see.
Lastly, I thought the officials today were as good as I've seen in two years. I'll be pleased if we can get fair and balanced officiating the remainder of the year. Just an overall fun day in good 'ol Vermillion. Actually, the Dome was a little bit louder today on the season ticket side, so maybe we are making strides there. Anyway, I'm very pleased to be at 2-2 with a week off to heal wounds. There will not be one easy game in The Valley for anyone. Maybe NDSU is ahead of the curve, but the curve appears to be flattening out. I could see the second place team easily with 3, maybe 4 losses in the conference.

Really solid game where the Coyotes showed toughness at many positions. Minus the muffed punt return that resulted in a turnover, it was the best overall special teams performance I can remember. Bergner was the kicker and punter we all know he can be. Hopefully yesterday's game will be a sign of what he will be the next two and a 3/4 seasons he has left. The OL had their way with NAU and the RBs all run with an effort that rarely results in the first defender stopping them. I really admire Jordan Roberts resolve. That guy is an amazing competitor. Last year on two bad knees he rushed for over 100 against NDSU (not many did that last year btw). He makes the most of his opportunities and did so yesterday. Just really proud to have a kid like that on the squad. Saeger is also as tough as hell and I loved seeing how fired up he got on some of his tough scrambles and runs. His stats may not look good throwing but he had several balls he deliberately threw away. It will be really interesting to see how he performs when they face valley defenses that have the ability to load the box and force a QB to be accurate to beat them. I hope he can - would be awesome to see him pick up two more wins in the next three weeks. The defense played a great team game yesterday. I loved how they moved Iddings around more to some different spots. Was also great to see Ruiz make an appearance - big athletic kid that I predict will be an impact player by the end of the season. Bredl made a great tip and interception - great to see. Even the three freshman DL that I saw yesterday held their own. The LB core was flying around and Buscarini had a career day. The secondary got burned a couple times, but also came up with two INTs. They were in position on the big completions but failed to make the play. The season is 1/3 over. After the week off the Yotes will have an 8 week stretch that is sure to be exciting. If USD plays clean FB - no turnovers, dumb penalties, huge mental errors, and plays with the passion and resolve I saw yesterday - there isn't a game they can't win. The margin of error for the Yotes is slightly larger this year than the previous two, but it is still very slim. It is exciting to be in the MVFC - every victory is meaningful and you can know that if you can have success here you are among the best in all of FCS football.
I would give the main grandstand fans a B- for yesterday. Louder than usual, but not a sellout and still a lot of people sitting on their hands. I would give the student section a D. The students that were there did a good job and deserve an A but there were only a few hundred left after half . Pretty weak.

My apologies if someone already addressed this. I don't think Jasper Sanders returned after hobbling off. Does anyone have any info on him? He's been a bright spot for our offense the first four games.
