Montana is behind us, and it's time to focus on the Lumberjacks of NAU. Although we lost, there were some positives that came out of the Montana game. QB play has to get better. Truthfully, I just think Ryan is being super cautious and trying to aim the ball instead of just being a QB and playing on instincts. He doesn't want to be responsible for making a mistake. I think he knows this now, and we will see a different Ryan in the Dome Saturday. This is a must game for us if we are going to say we have made strides. And I think it's a winnable game as well. Defensive line play has to get better....period. Our secondary did a very good job in Missoula. Our offensive line was ok, but we need to improve each week. There just has to be times in a game where they have to dominate, and we have the capability of doing that. If they do that, then the run game opens up, and if that opens up, that makes Ryan's job easier passing the ball.
If indeed Montana is the nations 4th ranked team ( I have my doubts, but if they are ) then we aren't far behind. There was an earlier post about if Earl had played we would have won by 10. Not sure about the spread, but I think we would have won as well. The special teams, specifically the punting game, has to change 180 degrees. It stunk in Montana, absolutely stunk. There is no excuse for it, and even I'm getting tired of special teams costing us big time. We had a nine yard punt. 9 frickin yards.
But back to the positives, we need a large and vocal crowd Saturday. Our guys need to learn to win, and when they do, I think they will get their fair share. But creating a winning attitude is something that evolves, doesn't happen overnight. The same goes with the fan base. We need to be vocal, and support the Coyotes, and not sit on our freaking hands the entire game. Montana made it miserable for us out there. Hell, it was louder than Oregon for my money. So let's get this ship pointed in the right direction, and get a win Saturday.

Kick-offs and punts drove the crew at Beef's North crazy on Saturday night. Heck, kick-offs drove our section at the Dome crazy against William Penn. I can't for the life of me understand the wisdom in kicking the ball to the 20 yard line. The ball should be kicked straight through the end-zone or to the 1 or 2 yard line EVERY TIME, which Bergner has the leg for.
The punting was ridiculous and as far as I'm concerned was essentially worth 2 turnovers on the two worst punts. Ryan missed an easy TD late in the game against the Griz on the left side and instead went to JVM and we settled for a field goal (a pleasant bright spot this year). I don't think Kevin would have missed that one. Aside from that, Ryan is starting to find his groove and play with more confidence. The last TD drive at Montana showed this. Hoping he will get a chance to go vertical and take some shots downfield against NAU to Donavon, Munchie, and JVM to help spread the defense for the running attack.
My wife and I have a wedding this weekend and are giving our tickets to a former Coyote XC star so he can bring his boys to the game. I think they'll get a kick out of seeing their dad's picture hanging from the rafters of the Dome. Cheer loud and let's get a win this weekend. Go Yotes!

I can't for the life of me understand the wisdom in kicking the ball to the 20 yard line. The ball should be kicked straight through the end-zone or to the 1 or 2 yard line EVERY TIME, which Bergner has the leg for. I know not too long ago I posted on here we need to boot it out of the endzone on every kickoff. And I still believe that. But let's take a look back at what happened last year against Montana when we kicked it down to the 1 or 2 yd line at the end of the game..... Most disgusting coyote loss in recent memory. Still makes me sick thinking about it. There is some strategy to what Joe and Tripp have Miles doing with that little chip shot kickoff. Now don't get me wrong, kicking the damn thing out of bounds is absolutely inexcusable. And don't get me started on the punting. As for NAU, I'm done with guessing outcomes. I'm an eternal optimist when it comes to coyote football and I would love to see us get this one on Saturday. It really all depends on which Coyotes come to the dome. It could be the same old Yotes that play well enough to have a shot, or it could be the Coyote football team we all know they are capable of. If that squad shows up, look out NAU. I really believe we are close to greatness. At some point that switch is going to flip and the coyotes will be the consistent, winning football team we know they can be.

As far as I'm concerned, even with the backup QB, this game is a must win if we are really making progress. We nearly beat then with JVM last year, we absolutely have to do it with Saeger at home this year. We absolutely need a win going into this brutal stretch just so that the guys have a victory to rally around.

Any game against the Jacks, be it Lumber or Rabbits, is a must win.

Special teams....hmmm. Seems to me long snaps were hurting us last year and now more special teams issues. We must make some improvements or it will be costing wins.

Optimism isn't too high after the Montana game, but I think we'll see the Yotes take a big step forward against NAU. We were a couple breaks away from beating a FCS team ranked in the top 5, in their stadium, in front of a sold out crowd, and that is nothing to hang your head about. That being said, gotta put some more into that W column, and we can absolutely do that against NAU. I'm really confident going into this one, I could absolutely see us taking this game by a couple possessions. I know we can stomp these guys if we put a complete game together, and I hope to see our players and coaching staff put that complete effort together.
Northern Arizona was a playoff team last year, is currently ranked, and will be the first of a few great wins for our program this year. Let's go Yotes!

Coming out from the Black Hills to see my Coyotes play and defeat the Jacks. This looks like one of the best - if not the best -FCS matchups of the week.
You'd never know it looking at the lack of posts on this board. Guess the Coyote fan base is either mentally down or consumed by other activities. In any event, winning solves everything.
Keys to the game:
- A large number of fans attend the game; - Such fans are loud at inappropriate times for the opposition; - Such fans infuse the players with confidence, thus helping to ensure proper execution of plays; - The players acquire a greater degree of resolve/toughness, thereby ensuring victory.
...or something like that. Whatever it takes to win. Go Coyotes!!!

Thanks for breaking the radio silence coyote70.... Happy to hear some of our west river yotes are making the trip.
I am expecting a big win for the yotes tomorrow. All we have to do is minimize mistakes. Just like last week. If we can do that, we win. If not, we will all have to meet back on here sunday morning and play the "we would have won if...." game we have gotten so familiar with.

We absolutely can not have the "could have won if _________" this weekend. While this is a very good team coming, they are a very beatable team and are in our house. If we are really making progress as a program this is a win we have to secure. I can't wait for another Coyote Gameday! GO YOTES!

Looks like the team is donning the old Coyote uni's worn when Coach Glenn was a player. See goyotes.com for a video clip. These guys are hungry, they are due for a win, and they are defending the Dome. I like our chances. Go Yotes!
