Jacks win this giving USD their 2nd winless Valley slate in 3 years.
Coach Glenn still has a lot of work to do.

Raiders just beat the Chiefs. Could be a good omen.

Basketball games in Brookings 2013/2014 Vs. USD 5,509 Vs. NDSU 4,859 2012/2013 Vs. USD 6,130 Vs. NDSU 6,063 2011/2012 Vs. USD 6,216 Vs. NDSU 3,303 Not once has there been more fans at a game in Brookings VS. NDSU than against USD. These are hard numbers to hide behind for people who try to say USD is no longer a rival. I think a lot of the attendance numbers have to do with how people follow the sport. NDSU travels everywhere and really follows their football team. I would bet that next years SDSU-NDSU football game will probably break the attendance record for a SDSU home game. They don't follow basketball anywhere as much. South Dakota is a basketball state. I don't know how many fans showed up for the St. Johns vs Wisconsin game or the Wichita State vs Memphis(??) game were but I think there were a lot of them. Several of them were probably from SD. Are those fans of any of those schools(some probably were) or were they just there for a good basketball game. This morning KSFY news was on from the indoor practice facility at SDSU and they interviewed coach Stig. He said that he thought the break was good for the rivalry. He wonders where it will go from here.

NDSU does travel extremely well. I was at the beat down at Howard Wood a few years ago and was embarassed at the fact that they probably had more fans at that game than we did. But, success equals fans....USD must be more successful if we want the casual coyotes fans to really come out and support the team. Especially in SF which has really turned into a SDSU city the last 4-5 years.

One thing that gets overlooked is the fact that SDSU has an undergrad enrollment that is twice the size of USD. USD has a larger female to male ratio and SDSU has a larger male to female student population. Theres no question that diehard sports fans tend to be male. Next,Brookings is 3 times the size of Vermillion. Regional small universities like USD and SDSU fans are going to be made up with a majority of either current/past students and their families and people from the city in which the university resides. With a significantly smaller undergrad population and significantly smaller city in which the university resides it is going to equate to a smaller fan base. If USD or SDSU was in Sioux Falls like NDSU is in Fargo the student enrollment would be 20,000 and no one would even remember there are other schools in the state.

I wish someone would clear up the 51-50-6 record USD touts in this series vs. the 50-50-7 record State reports. I see that Kelo and the Argus in their pieces today both report the series record as the later. We should either report the same record or clear it up once and for all and set the record straight. It makes all parties look foolish, especially when other new outlets report the USD record.
I have read a few recent posts by State fans who have talked about the acrimonious tenor of this rivalry before the D2-D1 break. I chose not to weigh in until noting the above, but I think State fans often conveniently overlook what was driving the "Alligator alligator beat your wife, beat your wife" comments and others, and that's Fred Oien. I never liked those chants, but I also never liked a man I found as a student to be a full on ass-hat. Any public comments made by President Abbott that State fans took issue with were in large part precipitated by "Dr." Oien's goading, like announcing at a well covered press conference that State was moving on to greener D1 pastures (pun intended) because the NCC was no longer providing a suitable level of competition and USD was no longer its rival. Seeing the disparity in the record reminds me of that type of mentality in which facts and logic play second fiddle to emotion.
We're horribly banged up today and the Yotes are colossal underdogs. Even if we were healthy across the board, I'd still have to put my money on the Jacks. With that said, we have always been and will always be rivals. Anyone who argues differently has lost touch with reality. Hell, SDSU's own Zach Zenner compared today's game in this morning's Argus to a game against the great and powerful NDSU saying, "There's just a little more intensity to the game. It reminds me of a North Dakota State kind of game. No matter what the score, there's a little more of an edge to both teams - and regardless of record." I agree Zach. You'll torch us today, but I agree.

Seems like we've got a nice day for the game....at least in Vermillion it feels alright. I hope the field conditions are good (or not? It'll probably be a closer game if the field is slop)

You'll torch us today, but I agree. I generally agree and I am sick of all the people who are so focused on the past. Let's work on building a really fun rivalry for the future. I grew up in Brookings and was steeped in the harshness of the rivalry then from a young age. I guess I don't get why it's fun to be angry. Instead, let's embrace what's unique about this small-state D1 rivalry. I attended a recent basketball matchup between SDSU and USD at the DakotaDome. I sat with USD fans who were perfectly nice people. I found the USD student section, at least at that game, to be a real factor in the game. The only off-tone thing was a couple of the ushers who were wearing hate state shirts (and no, I don't approve of screw the U shirts, either). Good rivalries are supposed to be fun, not angry, profane experiences. As far as the renewal of the rivalry goes, so far so good. Let's all work to keep it fun.

The weather turned a little more mild just in time for the game. I wonder if the field will be a little bit sloppy for this or if it will hold up fine. 38-10 Jacks is the prediction.
If I were the Yotes I would get unconventional in this game. Use reverses, long passes, blitzes or whatever it takes to try to pull the upset. Playing straight up against the Jacks simply will not work.

Jacks get the ball first and return the kick to the Coyote 49 yard line.

Now down to the 10 yard line. Now easy touchdown for Zenner. Yotes predictably not putting up much of a fight so far. 7-0 with ease for the Jacks.
