35 Yard field goal makes it 10-0 Coyotes. An offensive pass interference call negated a touchdown pass on the drive. So far so good. The Yotes are dominating and overwelming Drake so far. Keep it up.

No flow on offense for the Yotes. Good thing drake is offensively challenged.

Bouma scores his 2nd touchdown and now Drake is in big trouble down 17-0.

The Yotes are making this look like a cake walk. They are rolling right over Drake so far. It's now 24-0.

35 yard touchdown pass and the route is in full force. 31-0 just before half. Wow no letdown in this one.

I thought Drake would originally be a pushover and maybe they ultimately are but after the UND game I thought this would be a good game today. The Yotes deserve a ton of credit for bashing the Bulldogs in the mouth today. The Drake players have not made their way to the locker room as of yet because their football bodies are still flattened to the turf after being steamrolled by the Yotes. They will be peeled off the field and eventually make their way to the locker room.

Nice to see we avoided the William Penn letdown from last year. Let's keep the momentum going heading into D days and the conference schedule! Go yotes!!

First shutout of a D1 opponent for USD, 13th consecutive victory in a home opener, and the first game in a very long while that I was able to watch in a relaxed manner. A very complete victory for us. I have no idea how UND almost lost to these guys and only averaged like 1 yard per carry (we averaged 6.6 yesterday for 300 total).
Bouma had himself another monster day. 118 yards on 16 carries for 3 TDs. It is so great to see that guy healthy again. Saeger (and Woodword for that matter) broke free for a lot of scrambling yards. Freshmen Frederick and Gunn also had their fair share of yards (97 on 16 attempts between them).
Saeger was a true distributor at QB. I see 9 different guys had receptions. Definitely spreading the ball around to some capable receivers.
Incredible effort by the defense to stop the two field goal attempts and preserve the shutout. The 4-3 has absolutely put more pressure on the QB so far. We have six sacks on the season, there were only eight total in twelve games last year. We also have five interceptions so far, only had six total last year. This scheme as paid off greatly so far.
The special teams were shining again yesterday. Bergner had good kicks and our guys were there to stop the return man. Drake had to punt a lot and I really liked what I saw from Paul Anderson on the returns. He is just one of a number of very good looking freshmen getting some very meaningful minutes. Seems to me that there is a stockpile of talent and speed in the young guys that I can't wait to see flourish.

Great outcome yesterday. I hope Anderson is healthy as he is a weapon. does anyone know if Donovan is hurt? I don't think he played yesterday.

Sound as if Donovan may be out for the season. According to the radio broadcast.

This blog post from Jeremy Hoeck talks about Glenn's thoughts on how the team has progressed. It also mentions that Donovan is having hip surgery and will be out for the season, but should be healed up and ready to go next year.

Some observations on the game experience from a fan, but certainly not an expert by any means:
1) Tailgate experience was enjoyable but a little confusing. There were many people in the west parking lot on the grass; a few parking/tailgating in the east side lot on the pavement; and then some of the sponsor's tents/etc. in the grass a little further south. The students were just across the street from the west tailgate area and it was packed. It would be nice to get everybody together. One plus is that I got some exercise walking all over the place.
2) The student section was pretty much full the first half. The reserved section was pretty full but could have used another 500 folks. About 3/4th of the students left and didn't come back after halftime and many folks in the reserved section left as well. Nothing new here. The crowd was pretty vocal much of the time.
3) I thought it took the Yotes a little time to get going at the start of the game, but as things settled in they got going especially on defense. It's hard to be critical with such a lopsided score but one area I know they'll address is the punting game. We had one blocked punt and the punts previous to that were very nearly blocked as well. Drake's formation when they punted was much better than ours.
4) I hope line play can and will improve but our defensive ends are much faster than before. Van Ginkle (sp)just caught the foot of the quarterback as he was scrambling to the goal line or Drake would have scored. I also noted that our DEs didn't run by the quarterback on rushes, which is a big plus.
5)If we can block and tackle as well as stay out of trouble with penalties (ok, a duh is in order), we'll cause some problems for Valley teams. I think we have more speed on the field than with previous Joe Glenn teams and we are using it.
I'll leave it up to others to hopefully add some more comments. Two weeks is a long time to wait for another game.
