I believe Riley was poking fun at the SDSU athletic dept for trying to get gameday to Brooklyn. I highly doubt gameday will go to any FCS school again, but you can't blame them for trying. Here are some of the biggest matchups for week 5: Alabama at Georgia Notre Dame at Clemson Arkansas at Tennessee Arizona State at UCLA Iowa at Wisconsin Also, it looks like he deleted the tweet. I would to if SDSU was tying to get them to go to Brooklyn! I can understand Brookings because it will be a top 5 FCS matchup (After SDSU takes care of Robert Morris), ESPN's beloved Bison will be there, one of the biggest FCS rivalries, and it will be the Dakota Marker game. Gameday has already responded to SDSU a couple times: I hope everyone knows that the likelihood of GameDay coming to Brookings this season is slim to none. It's pretty cool that they are at least recognizing SDSU. Also it all started because of the student who wrote a letter to them (which some of the stuff he stated was incorrect). I do not have a problem with SDSU attempting this. There is nothing else to do in South Dakota. I beleive one or two other FCS schools have hosted Gameday but it was really early in the season before big matchups at the FBS level have occured. Fargo hosting twice was quite the feat and happened because of their dominance in FCS for 4 years. But in order to call NDSU a rivalry or one of the best in FCS for sure I beleive you have to have won a game against them since 2009.

It's time to focus on the upcoming game with Youngstown State and start talking about everyone's thoughts and feelings and keys to the game. I'll start: in order to win, we have to have at minimum one more point than they do. ? Seriously, three weeks ago I stated after Kansas State that in order to give hope to those wanting our team to be markedly better than years past, we had to win at Davis ( done ), beat Drake, and do so in a convincing manner ( done ). Then we'd have a week off to prepare for Youngstown State, which I felt at the time was going to be a pretty good football team and ranked in FCS, and beat them for Dakota Days, then head to Macomb for a battle with Western Illinois, which I think is a vastly improved team, but like us, probably in the lower half of the MVFC. We are half way home. We beat Davis and Drake. Now comes what is to me this years ultimate test of where we are as a program. In all candor, I was hopeful to be in this position, but wasn't sure we would be. Three wins in a row would be huge, and certainly be a confidence booster for not only the fans, but the team as well. I'm not going to predict a win, but I will reiterate what I have said earlier. Our defense is vastly improved. If that unit can keep playing at the level they have been, and we can show some improvement offensively, we have a chance. Our offense has to be able to drive the ball, and give our D a break. We don't always have to score, but we do need to take time off the clock. If Bergner can maintain his effectiveness in pinning YSU back with his kicking, we can win the battle of field position. To me, that's the key. Not big plays, but controlling the tempo of the game. Bergner, in my mind, could be the MVP of this game. Let's make the Dome hostile as hell. Coyote Crazies, we have funded and armed you to do some serious damage to the physchy of the Penquins. If the Dome is loud, the students do their thing, and the fans vehemently support the efforts, this could be the game that defines the turnaround in Coyote football. I realize that's a lot of ifs, but it's ok to dream a little. ?

A couple interesting stats from the MVFC thus far:
Scoring Defense: USD #1 YSU #4
Total Defense: YSU #1 USD #3
Pass Defense YSU #1 USD #4
Rush Defense USD #2 YSU #6
Scoring Offense: YSU #4 USD #7
Total Offense: YSU #5 USD #8
Rushing Offense: YSU #2 USD #5
Passing Offense: YSU #8 USD#9
Penalties: YSU #3 USD #5
Opponent Penalties USD #4 YSU #7 (13 yard gap)
Some of these stats are probably skewed by our game against KSU, but you get the point.
Here is the thing. Pelini isn't going to change what he does. That isn't a knock on him; it is the truth. What his defense does best is stop the pass and then tighten up near the end zone. Teams can run on Pelini's defense (ask Melvin Gordon), however he is good at forcing FG's and making goal line stands. It is the epitome of bend but don't break - unless you break a big run (right, Melvin?).
On the flip side, he wants to run the ball. He is deathly afraid that the offense will lose the game for him. So much so that his paranoia can shut an offense down. It is interesting that in the first game against Pitt YSU threw for nearly 300 yards and ran for nearly 200. Thereafter, the passing game has clammed up and the running game has taken over.
To win this game, USD needs to do 3 things. Run the ball well, stop the run and be efficient with the pass (no INTs). Icing on the cake would be to win the field position battle on special teams.
Generally speaking, you need to win the first half to beat a Pelini team. His players play scared and if the tide turns against them, they fold. However, if they get momentum, then watch out because they will try to pile it on. Bo's teams go as he goes. I swear, if we can get into his head, make some noise and force his players to make mistakes or penalties, they will fold like a house of cards.
This is NOT going to be an easy game. As a fan base, we need to show up and give this team all of the support we can muster. I promise you it will make a difference!

The opening line on this game has Youngstown favored by 3.5 points. That's probably about right considering how close we've played these guys. Agree with all of Cousin's points above. I would add emphasis to the special teams piece. Have to limit short fields for the bad guys.

Agree with both Cuz and yotemeal. I rarely missed a Husker game with Pelini at the helm. Even got the chance to sit in his office and visit with him for an hour or so on one occasion. But Pelini teams, at least at Nebraska, reacted the same way Bo did. Flourish in good times, then cave in the face of adversity. My hope for this week is that we kickoff to open the game, force a 3 and out, then put together a 5-7 minute demoralizing drive and punch Bouma into the endzone. Make them feel like there's nothing they can do to stop the bleeding.

In addition to the play on the field, having the support of everyone in the stands for both halves is a must!

I had a friend ask whether I knew (I didn't) what the chances would be if he walked up to buy a ticket on gameday at the Dome. Apparently his travel plans are up in the air yet so he hasn't attempted to purchase tickets before the game.
How big do you think the crowd will be? (I'm not sure I know what capacity is in the Dome theses days...in my mind I always think its a little north of 10,000.) I'm guessing it's considered sold out but there may be a chance to get a ticket on game day if somebody had to cancel out?
Good luck Saturday.

Online it looks like there are about 500 tickets remaining with 400 of those in the bleacher section and the other 50-100 on the 10 yard line on either side. Priority seating is sold out

You can never tell because the students can walk up to the student entrance and get in with a student ID. At least I don't think they need to get tickets beforehand.
I remember one game where the students were overflowing and they had to seat them in the main grandstand, south endzone at about the 10 yard line. I wouldn't be surprised if they were holding a section open around there for student overflow.

D-Days typically brings a lot of fans to their only game of the year and many are used to purchasing their tickets at the walk-up booth on game day. Last years D-Days game against UNI was a sellout and I am guessing this years game will also sellout.
JackJD - if you friend decides to attend the game, he should be able to go online and purchase a ticket on Friday, but if waits to walk-up on Saturday he may be out of luck.

When did they start student tickets? Used to be you just showed your ID at the door.

When did they start student tickets? Used to be you just showed your ID at the door. I want to say this is the third or fourth year that the students have had to pickup a student ticket during the week prior to the game. I can recall being a freshman and swiping my ID on D Days to get in only to be told that the student section was full and that I would have to stand along the wall behind the end zone. Things changed somewhere between the Great West and MVFC.

I'm sure students picking up tickets in the student center ahead of time makes sense from a planning standpoint. It seems like a good way to lose some of the students too. I know they are still free but when I was in school I had no idea if I was going to the game or not until 10 mintutes before it started.
Seems to make sense where the only way a student can be guaranteed a ticket is if they get it ahead of time during the week. On gameday student walk ups are welcome if there is room. It's still trackable, can manage the seating and avoid turning kids away who do not get tickets ahead of time and just show up to tailgate and get talked into going into the game to hold one of the 12 Pelini cutouts or win free books.
