Anyone know if we plan on breaking out the special chrome uniforms for D Days again? Those things were awesome!

Big time fan of the combo we used at State last year. Chrome helmets, white jersey, grey pants w/red & white stripes.

The new crome helmets with silver numbers on red is not a bad alternate jersey at all. It still does not beat the traditional red jerseys with red helmets. I like the new jersey's uni combination once a year and the traditional look the rest of the games.

The Yotes have two daunting streaks that they need to break this week. The team in on a 13 game conference losing streak with the last 10 of those coming by double digits. Ironically the last time the Yotes were within double digits of a MVFC team was the last time they hosted these same Penguins in 2013. They could basically annihilate 2 streaks with one good performance on Saturday.

Beat two streaks relatively easily with the UC Davis win (road and outdoors games) and earned our first shutout against a D1 opponent in Drake, I can absolutely see a couple more futility marks being laid to rest on Saturday. The MVFC is the real test. It doesn't matter how good we have looked in the past two games, this is where it all starts.

Just poking around the YSU forums, confidence isn't an issue for their fans at least. I think they're underestimating the dome on DDays. Especially with a team that (so far) knows how to close out ball games. They might be in trouble. God I hope they're in trouble. Just need a win on Saturday then maybe my stomach will unknot itself.

The players have said they have no respect among their conference foes and the YSU message board is going to be no different. You lose however many conference games in a row and people aren't going to view you as a threat.

I really like a lot of the things our guys are saying about the respect factor. They acknowledge that they must prove themselves to earn respect, and that's a process, not something achieved in one game. While a win Saturday would be a meaningful step forward, it is a step, not an arrival. This program needs to find ways to win conference games consistently, home and away. Saturday marks a tremendous opportunity to continue in that quest.

I just noticed this, 2pm kickoff. Ugh, I hate that for D-Days. Not enough time to catch the parade and get in a proper tailgate. They need to move D-Days games back to 4pm kickoffs in the future. Enough time to get all the festivities in yet the game will be over with enough time to fill up the bars in the evening.

SD4ever wanted to convey that he is going to be at the game on Saturday. He has to come all the way from the desert Southwest so he has along ways to come to go to the game and wasn't able to be on the board as of recent to make the big announcement of his coming to Vermillion. He is predicting a 31-21 Coyote victory for the big D-Days game.
Of course the traditional SD4Ever knows that there will be mushroom clouds over Vermillion on Saturday and that won't spell good news for Youngstown State. He has to think that the nuclear offense will be too much for the Penguins to handle. To put words in his mouth of course the nuclear storm shelter defense will need to put up it's wall so that YSU will have no room to take cover. The radiation sickness will certainly take it's toll on the Penguin players and especially Pelini. By the time the 4th quarter arrives the Penguins will just be a shell of their former selves looking for any and every way out of the Thunder Dome. The Nuclear explosion for the Coyotes will leave a lasting effect on the Missouri Valley Football Conference and teams will once again fear coming to the Thunder Dome to try to avoid a similar fate that will fall upon the red and black guys from Ohio.
Of course I needed to slant these comments as if they were coming from SD4ever but I am sure he would be happy to hear about the return of the Mushroom Clouds over the Dakotadome.

The more I think about this game the more I view it as a must win game for our program. A win would absolutely launch us and get some real momentum going, but a loss could be devastating. Sold out stadium, fancy uniforms, homecoming vibe, rocking student section with hilarious cutouts of opposing head coach all for naught? A loss might put us in a best case 2-6 MVFC scenario. I'm feeling a lot of confidence from our guys, I really think they are ready to throw everything they have at the conference, but to fall flat on D Days could be devastating. Big game for our team, can't wait to get to the Dome on Saturday!

I totally get why you would say that, I do, but I really hope the coaches aren't approaching it that way, and here's why. They do have momentum, and until someone punches them in the mouth and draws blood, they are confident right now. If you start worrying about winning, other than not playing hard and well, that can turn into playing not to lose. Once a team gets in that mode, that's also habit forming. They just have to play with a chip on their shoulder with the mindset that everyone they play is favored, and we are going to show the world we are better than you think.
That's truly one of the reasons I don't like the fancy uniforms. I know the kids love the glitter and all, but if I were the captain of this team, I would go to Coach Glenn and say give us the crappiest uniforms we have and left us wear those. You want the other team to see you as a "blue collar, lunch pail" kind of team. One where they intend to knock you on your a$$ every time we line up to run a play.
Your analogy is correct in that a win tomorrow would give them a lot of confidence heading on the road to Western Illinois, which could then be a winnable game. Then comes the gauntlet of the schedule. What must happen is our team, worst case scenario, plays well, and gives YSU all we have. If that's good enough to get the win, awesome. If not, they still know they can beat teams if they play well.
I just want them to play inspired ball, and with a chip on their shoulder. Our crowds reaction (noise wise) will play a large role in the outcome. This team will feed off that. I said it two weeks ago, and I'll say it again. We are better. No doubt about it. Whether or not that translates into wins, we will have to see. But I am proud of this group, I truly believe they have the right mentality. Lage is a big time leader...big time. And Bouma will lead with heart. What the hell, let's play the game and see where we are at.
Lunch pail mentality.

I agree yoteforever with your assessment. I would just add take care of the ball--no turnovers would be great. Eliminate penalties as much as possible and everyone do their job with great effort on every play. The crowd needs to be into the game especially when Y is on offense not just a few people standing on 3rd down. The Coyote Crazies can lead by example and the students need to stay the whole game--plenty of time to party after the game. We never left a game at halftime when I was at the U. Noise in the Dome can be a huge factor when the other team is on O. GO YOTES!!!
