I was at the Western Illinois game and one word describes our effort....abysmal. These two teams were evenly matched talent wise, and our guys pure and simple just don't have that internal fire that just has to burn when you play this sport. Our defense, which in my opinion had vastly improved over 2014 looked completely lost. Western Illinois has improved a great deal over last year, more so than we have. Offensively we were better but just not good enough.
I thought Sams injury would be hard to overcome, but the first drive of the second half we came out and stuck it down their throats. At that point I thought I saw a spark and maybe, just maybe, would be what was needed to ignite this team. Three plays later the Leathernecks scored and we were done. Sickening. No fight, no heart...totally unexplainable. In my opinion, the only game now we can win is Missouri State, as they are awful as well.
Lastly I want to say to one poster on here that the reason I chose the Coyotes to win is because I think that's what true fans do. I'm not blind, and neither are other posters on here, so we are well aware of our troubles. But we are also hopeful that we would have progressed and at minimum competed hard. When we were 2-2 in my opinion we were on a path of betterment, but my opinion was wrong. Compared to Valley teams, we aren't there yet. In fact, not even close. And I don't really give a crap how we would do in the Big Sky, because its a stupid argument. It doesn't matter.
I do believe you are wrong when you claim a new coach can turn it around in a short period of time, but this is one time I hope I'm wrong and you're right. But I do know, and not an opinion, is we will not compete with no game plan moving forward on facility updates, increased coaching salaries, and some assurance one year contracts can be overcome. I'm tired of fighting with you, and I'm going to do my damndest to stop it. But I will always be critical of anyone that complains, or calls for people to be fired, yet never attend games or join the Howling Pack. I think last Saturday SD4ever chimed in several times and I can emphathize with him. He's gone to games for years, drove up to Vermilion from Arizona, and saw a lackluster performance. His words resonate with me and others. He's earned the right to voice his opinion . It's like someone that doesn't vote in the general election, I dont think they should bitch about who's in power.
I love USD, so I will always support the school and its teams as long as I'm alive and those in charge show the willingness to get better. But I will tell you from my heart, after watching Sam lay on the field motionless, and watching the chopper haul him away to Iowa City, for some reason the final score just doesn't seem as important as it once did. It took a lot out of me, I can't imagine what it did to his teammates and coaching staff. But we all have to get over it and find a way. I challenge the guys to look deep within themselves and challenge themselves to be the best they can be. Quit worrying about winning and losing...just focus on getting better.

YF, I saw you on the sidelines in your USD hoodie during the watch party and have been waiting for your thoughts. Biggest take-away above, quit worrying about winning and losing and focus on getting better. That is the answer plain and simple. From coaches to players to the dam bus driver. We haven't scored a touchdown on NDSU when it mattered in years. Literally years. Let's start there. That would be a small sign of improvement. Set some meaningful goals instead of trying to eat the elephant in one bite. Anyway, I needed this article from Mick today. He has a way of telling a story on a personal level that I and many others appreciate. We may not have the best coach in the Valley in terms of wins and losses, but we certainly have the classiest. We've lost our last three games vs. NDSU by a combined score of 143-7, contests in which we were out gained 1,462-533 and were 4 for 36 on 3rd down conversions. Having witnessed all three contests, even those one-sided statistics hardly do the outcomes justice. Unfortunately, there's no rational basis to suggest even simply a respectable loss Saturday won't require an NDSU sleepwalk and the Coyotes playing out of their minds. I think we're in for another ugly one.

What does it say when we may have played a better game vs. Kansas St. than we will against NDSU?

Yotefan and Yoteforever have both hit it square on the head. If Joe Glenn wasn't the classy guy that he is, it would be easy for all of us to to be screaming at the top of our lungs to Herbster to make a change and NOW. While we don't get to many of the away games, we literally plan our fall schedule around home games in Vermillion. For those of you who know me and realize that neither my wife nor I are USD alum it would be easy for us to jump ship but we love these Coyotes as much and if not more than many of the people on this board.
Like most of you, we too are scratching our heads trying to figure out why that burn in the belly is missing. It defies logic when you really think about it. We all know darn well that Glenn is the most positive and optimistic guy out there and yet somehow the message doesn't appear to be getting through. I don't think it's a talent issue either because we've got a lot of it. I feel horrible for coach Glenn, the players, and even those of you who are alum and have played. We all want answers and yet none of us can seem to find them.
Let's all hang in there...it's just the right thing to do!
Go Yotes!!

Yoteforever,
You always whine about me not going to Vermillion or not joining the Howling Pack. What you conveniently forget is that I have bought tickets for both football and basketball for much of the last 23 years so don't say I haven't given to Coyote Athletics because I have with both money and support. There becomes a time when the athletic department owes it's fans something in return and that is a competitive football program which has been absent for much of the time for close to 3 decades now. That is almost 30 years of mostly bad football.
I think my past giving through purchasing tickets gives me a right to voice my opinion as I see fit and to also choose not to go to games as well. I have been plenty loyal in the past and used to go regardless of the success or lack of it. I will no longer go to games if I don't feel the program is making an honest effort to put together a good program and at this point in time they are not making that effort. That can still change in the off season. I haven't permanently given up on the football program but I now expect results and I think fairly so.

As far as being classy I don't think many people are going to argue that about Joe Glenn. He is a classy guy but that shouldn't give him the rope to continually lose in the MVFC. There are about 10 million other classy guys that could lose in the MVFC as well but you don't see them coaching a MVFC program. They don't have the ability to coach in the Valley and apparently neither does Glenn. If Joe Glenn wants to promote USD and be all rah rah that is nice but have him do it in a different role other than head coach of the football program.

I expect USD and maybe some of their younger players to mentally feel the pressure at fargodome even before the 1st snap, but you will still be better than SDSU that literally crapped their pants in their own house a few weeks ago. advantage USD.

To my friend Coyotefan, ( notice a softer tone? ) I don't whine. That's not who I am. I point out facts. You haven't bought season tickets for nearly 30 years, because if you did, your mom would've had to drive you to games. I have checked records and you haven't been a member of the Howling Pack as far as the records I have. Secondly, those kids don't owe you anything. South Dakota football was pretty dang good in the early 2000's to 2010. I would not say that was an era of bad football. Quite frankly my bet is those kids don't want you to come. Not to date myself here, but my generation refers to those kind of fans as "fair weather" fans. Only show up when we win. ( a thought just jumped into my mind....with the gas you save why don't you give a donation to the Howling Pack ) That way your donation could go to a coaching search, or do you prefer to see who the coach is first?

you will still be better than SDSU that literally crapped their pants in their own house a few weeks ago. This is 100% correct. Including the coaches.

The era of good football lasted about 3 years, 2004-2006. In 2007 things were already on the verge of a downturn when the Yotes proved that they couldn't handle a tough schedule. The Yotes have won one-third of a conference title in 3 decades. Now that smells like success to me. But maybe I am wrong because in Coyote Nation a .500 type team is considered a really good team and a 8-3 or 9-2 season is considered excellent football that is maybe a once in a century type occurance. That just how it is. Football has been bad for so long that people get used to it and are actually quite satisfied with seasons that the rival schools would fire a coach over. If the Yotes finish 4-7 this year there will be many people that would be very happy with that. Expectations are what they are.
