Call the defense what you want but Missouri State is horrible so anything done well against them has to be taken with at least some bit of caution. The Yotes put up 500 something yards on them. Go look at the stats on how many yards they average giving up per game and you might not be as excited about what the Coyotes did. It's like the old Vegas saying what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas. What happens against Missouri State doesn't necessarily equate against other teams. It's not a very good idea to take much out of this game. Just like the Drake game. It didn't matter what the Coyotes did against them because they are not a good team. The Coyotes have a tendency to roll teams that they are more talented than and don't have to really rely on coaching to win. Are you really that happy with the offense did today. They showed many self destructing tendencies again today but maybe that is just an uninformed opinion. Missouri State has a horrible defense. It's probably historically one of the worst defenses in conference history. The Coyotes should have been able to run over them like a steamroller. Sometimes they did but many times they did not either. If the Yotes beat UNI than it begins to solidify the win against NDSU. If the Coyotes don't and continue to stumble down the stretch than the game against NDSU is an isolated incident that was just "one of those Saturday's". The win against Missouri State does not solidify the win against NDSU but a win against UNI would.

Instead of hiding from your predictions on the Coyotes like you did this week what is your early pick for next week. Will the Yotes beat UNI. How about one of your super predictions. If you pick the Coyotes to win almost every game of course you are going to eventually get one right. Put it out there Yoteforver. Average Valley teams put up 50 plus points on this Missouri State defense. What the Coyote offense did today was nothing special and honestly barely average. I already said that the Coyote defense was good today so we don't have any argument there. My early pick for next week is 31-7 Panthers. The Yotes may very well keep it closer but my thought is that everything starts to unravel again next week. UNI's win against SDSU will have them flying high next week. Ok I haven't posted for awhile but seriously coyote fan? Why are you calling out yoteforever that he didn't put his pick on here? Who gives a sh!t! He goes to the games and supports his team. He doesn't need to throw a pick out there. Who cares. Furthermore, you say we should have scored 50 or more points today because they weren't any good? Yes we should have maybe had a couple touchdowns early. So we didn't. All I can say is we had 540 yards offense and 40 points. We probably could have scored 60 or more and had another 200 yards of offense. Joe Glenn took his starters out and "called off the dogs." Why? Because he has been on the other side of those games too and he coached with class. What is the point to keep your starters in and keep scoring? Missouri state played was it Illinois state last week and I think it was 31-7 at half and they only ended up beating them 38-7? Uh oh, does that mean they aren't any good either because they didn't score 50? They only won 38-7. I would like to add how crazy it was how Van Ginkle chased down that running back. That kid is going to be good.

One more thing. Nice to see coyote fan have the picture of the basketball by his name. Way to stir the pot some more coyote fan. Thought that was hilarious.

Why is that pot stirring or surprising in any way? I have made it apparent that I am looking forward to basketball season more than I was looking forward to football. I should have put that up much sooner actually. Basketball has been much better for me as a fan over the years anyway. Only 4 more games to go on the gridiron before at least half of the board disappears until next September.

How great was it to trot out that stable of running backs? (it was really great!)
My apologies to Nick Jensen, helluva nice kid. Too nice, not enough fire to play at this level I thought. Great family, great kid, great job coaches!

How great was it to trot out that stable of running backs? (it was really great!) My apologies to Nick Jensen, helluva nice kid. Too nice, not enough fire to play at this level I thought. Great family, great kid, great job coaches! Those running backs played their asses off yesterday. Wow, what a good job of running hard. And VanGinkels chase down of the MSU running back to me made a statement about where the mindset of this team is. They are going to play their asses off the rest of the season. They now know they can compete and win. Regarding Nick Jensen, what a great surprise. I isolated on him some plays yesterday, and he did a very good job. And he is only going to get better. And you are right. His family is top drawer all the way. Great family, hard working, totally vested in Vermillion and USD. Awesome success story. This team is full of Nick Jensen types. Also, maybe the coaching staff saw something in Nick no one else did? Wouldn't that be crazy if they did, because we all know the staff isn't very good. ( sarcasm ) One thing I would like to point out to fans in case you haven't noticed, and I'm sure you have, is the senior leadership of #33, Keyon Lage. This kid is special in leadership skills, and what's amazing, it's on BOTH sides of the ball. Just watch him come out to the field during time outs or when they come off the field. He is there encouraging them, slapping their hind ends, etc. That kid is special in my book. Keep the train rolling boys. You're on a roll. The remainder of the schedule is no more difficult than what you have gone through. If you go 3-1, who knows if you'll get another game. If you go 4-0, you will. But one game at a time. Blue collar, lunch pail mentality. I love how your playing, keep it up.

Great job Yotes taking care of business!! It wasn't always pretty especially in the first half but overall great team win AGAIN!! Special teams, defense and offense--53 yd FG, great punts, KOs! D was spectacular too! MSU has given up a lot of points but they've often scored in the 20s too. Young RBs were amazing--all contributed, QB play was great, WRs made plays!! Keep rolling Coyotes!!!

We left a bunch of points out there in the first half, potentially 19 points with the three field goals and pick in the end zone, but that is the lone negative one could take away from this win. Missouri State basically had one play on offense and we still had a DE sprint way the heck down the field and catch the guy so that we could hold them to a field goal. USD's 32 1st downs to MSU's 7 shows the pure dominance in this one. Incredible performance by the defense. They have been a much stronger group than I was expecting this year. The switch to the 4-3 seems to have worked out very well for us. Missouri State has looked terrible this year but also had scored their fair share of points at meaningful points in the game against Indiana State and Southern Illinois. Very good to see our defense only give up three points.

I also would like to add that we could potentially crack the Top 25 in one of the FCS polls when they release tomorrow. It would be a very welcome sight to see USD in the polls and this far into the season!

VanGinkle chasing down running back was really impressive, but the defensive play that stood out the most to me, was Lage staying home on the reverse and tackling the Bear runner for a big loss.
The entire game was fun to watch as the Yotes completely dominated. Despite the Dome showing its age, still no better place to spend a Saturday afternoon. Granted, Missouri State is having a tough year, but there was a different feeling to the game yesterday. The entire team from the starters to the reserves, red shirts and entire coaching staff really seemed locked in. Still a lot of ball to play, but I like the direction we are headed.

Back after the long trip and will post a few comments, again purely from a fan perspective:
1) I was somewhat surprised by how weak the Mo. State team was. I did not see any bright spots for them in any phase of the game other than kickoff returns, of which they have plenty of experience, unfortunately for them.
2) The Yotes seem to do the best offensively when they get the running game going, like I saw in the second half. I'd like to think the offensive line can step up this next week and open up some holes. They did a decent job this past weekend but I think against UNI they'll have to block a bit better, especially on plays where we run wide.
3) We made only one mistake on defense - the play where their RB ran up the middle for many yards only to be caught by Van Ginkle. Again, not a bright spot when your back is chased down in the open field by a defensive lineman.
4) The players seemed to be pumped up the whole game. Good to see.
Like some posters, I see (probably hope) the UNI game to be fairly low scoring. I hope our defense can pressure the Panthers into some mistakes and keep us in the game going into the 4th quarter.
Note: We stayed in Sioux Falls and when we went out to dine Saturday evening we wore our Coyote red. We received a number of compliments from strangers lauding the Coyotes effort. Had some good conversations with pleasant but somewhat envious rabbit fans as well.

One thing that I wanted to make note of from the game that I had not seen before Saturday was the presence of the redshirts on the sideline. It wasn't the fact that they were present on the sideline, they were there on D-Days as well - It was the fact that they were participating on the sideline as teammates. They were VERY into the action on the field; they were cheering VERY loudly; they actually had loud organized chants going on where they jumped around and waived their arms; They were holding up the 3 finger symbol for 3 and out and the 4 finger symbol for the 4th quarter. It became infectious with the rest of the players in uniform on the sideline. The coaches were embracing it and the strength staff, Jevon Bowman and his assistant, seemed to be the instigators on a couple occasions.
The chemistry of these guys was glaringly obvious. This is something that I doubt was visible on CoyoteVision or Midco, but was clear as day in the Dome. It was very cool to see.
The guys that seemed to be leading the campaign and appeared to be team leaders were: Romontay Hill, Dale Williamson, Eric Saintil, and Samy Jean Claude. There were others - I recognized Nickel Meyers for example, but these were the leaders. I don't know if I noticed any that weren't at least part of the group, if not participating in all of the jumping and chanting.
Hill and JeanClaude also pass the eyeball test. Man, they are impressive looking athletes.

Very pleasing to hear this was going on the entire game. These guys can provide a lot of energy even if they don't get into the game until next year.

I know that I moan a lot about budget and coaches pay and facilities and how that is a disadvantage in our recruiting ability. However, I think this years freshman class is outstanding and it is exciting to think about all of the play makers in that group that are redshirting this year. Thats not even counting the guys who are playing now and making big splashes. This staff has done a great job recruiting the last 2 years, especially when you think that we won 4 games combined while recruiting these guys. I think that there is a lot of talent waiting to burst onto the scene in vermillion in the next couple of seasons. If we can string together a couple more conference wins, with COA next year and hopefully some Dome renovations coming soon, Coyote football could be on the rise for the foreseeable future. We need to keep this momentum and get a big win this week against UNI. All arrows would be pointing up if we can take care of business. What a difference a couple weeks makes! I was as guilty as anyone for being down on the program after WIU, but if we play the way we are capable of these next weeks, the Yotes could kick down the door on the first winning season since 2011.
