UNI's defense has-been the one of the best against the run in the Valley, but their secondary has given up a good number of big plays also. Remember the end of the NDSU game? UNI had it all but wrapped up twice in the 4th quarter and they allowed 2 long passing TDs and 3-4 more big pass plays on top of that. Don't get me wrong, this UNI defense is very good, but I don't think their secondary is as good as YSU, and if the Yotes don't lay an egg and stink up the joint like they did on D-Days, then offensively we have a chance to do some good things. I think Fredericks gives us a little more speed and a different style than Bouma, and we saw him get a little space at times in the YSU game (granted it was against back-ups primarily). The Yotes are a confident bunch right now in all 3 phases so I hope we carry that into the UNI-dome and play well. If we play well, the rest will work itself out.

Anybody else surprised there isn't a thread for this game on panthernation? I usually enjoy seeing what the other teams' fans have to say, but apparently it's not much.

I've been checking a few times a day to see if they've started talking about anything other than if they want a new coach and who is their QB.

Not really surprised. It would probably get lost in the Fire Farley! and Retain Farley! threads and, frankly, UNI doesn't respect USD enough to start a thread. I'm serious, you ever talk to a UNI fan before? They think they should be going FBS instead of hanging around with the likes of us.
UNI used to own the old Gateway conference, now they are a mid-level team living off their past reputation (see them still being ranked in last week's poll with a losing record). I think their football supporters have tailed off because of their current status.

Even the Cedar Falls newspaper is silent. Just a couple of leftover stories on the win over the jacks.

I went to their board a couple years ago to try and discuss the game and just got piled on for thinking it could be a game. Nothing but a bunch of smack for thinking USD could ever play with UNI. I happily watched over their tears after the game and had no interest in returning again. Not surprising to see two years later the same sentiment of them not having any interest in discussing this game's possible outcomes due to their gross arrogance. I think the Dakotas going D1 and joining the MVFC has hurt their program badly, and that's fine by me. I will gladly watch their unrealistic fans fall apart and their program fall behind.

I missed the USD win in 2013 at UNI as I was pheasant hunting, but was there for the two games before that. The first was a solid showing by the Yotes with UNI pulling away in the second half. The second was a flea flicker TD by the Yotes out of the chute and a drubbing from UNI the rest of the way. The Panther fans were gracious tailgating both times, but they were gracious in the way southerners are when they say, "well bless your heart," which in case you're wondering is translated as, "it's adorable you people think your team could ever be the same caliber as ours, this is going to be an amusing game and will be over by half-time, enjoy your stay in Iowa." UNI will give us everything they have, but this team can take it. Time to get this series on the way to being evened back up and get Coach Glenn to 200 wins.

I think there's another factor -- maybe a small one but a factor nonetheless -- affecting the UNI board participation. I look at UNI's board from time to time. They've had a couple of posters who professed to be loyal Panther fans but they just baited people into endless arguments. I thought it was affecting board participation. People were just sick of reading threads because those two showed up and made it unpleasant (some on Goyotes.net may see some similarity with a poster on this board although the two bums on the UNI board were worse than anything you have on this board! ).* Finally, about a week or so ago, the Panthernation moderators banned the two guys. UNI's board was quite active and more rough and tumble than some boards but the two guys who were banned were wrecking it so the moderators had to step in. The UNI fans who had frequented the message board were already struggling with what they think has been poor coaching for a few years and then their board became unbearable so the board's activity level is down. I think the UNI fans remember well what USD did in 2013 and they know that overlooking an opponent is suicidal. Nothing stops a U fan from starting a thread on Panthernation...perhaps that would get some dialogue going. *I've thought the UNI board was quite tolerant of trolling behavior -- it is one of the few boards in the Midwest that allows a certain NDSU "fan" participate...I guess that says something about how bad the two were who got banned.

Last five games vs. UNI:
2009 - L 66-7 (I remember this one because we scored on a flea flicker, I believe, our very first play. Needless to say, it did not go well thereafter.) 2010 - L 19-14 2011 No game 2012 - L 24-21 2013 - W 38-31 (This was my wedding day. I remember someone whispering me the score and wondering if they'd consumed too much champagne.) 2014 - L 27-16
Big key for us will be protecting our QB. UNI sacked us seven times last year, and I believe they got to SDSU's QB that many times last week.

Panther Nation would rather talk about firing their coach than beating the Yotes. A lot of them are predicting a UNI loss so if UNI wins it's going to be "surprising" to them

I'm in Cedar Falls and no one I talk to thinks UNI is going to lose. They aren't as high on their team as in years past, but still confident.
