Does anyone really want a coach that has availability only because he was just fired. Not exactly the direction I would likely want to see USD go.

Andy Bischoff Andy Bischoff bioSt Paul native, played at USD in the early 90's Currently on the Baltimore Ravens staff Has ties to the area - two daughters that live in the Sioux Falls area Very strong offensive mind - highly intelligent and creative guy. Has the gift of gab and would be a natural recruiter and relationship builder. No HC experience.

Nothing better than a college coach going on a recruiting visit and being able to tell a potential recruit and his family that he knows what it takes to make it and succeed in the NFL. I would guess that most college football players have a goal of making it to the NFL, but maybe I'm wrong. Let's not forget he also was a coach at Cretin Derham Hall and they have been known to produce an athlete or 2.

The Ferris State FB coach has completely turned the program around. Tough running option team with physical defense. Undefeated this year headed for the second round of the playoffs. Probably not interested as he has been a Michigan lifer. Great coach IMO with a style suited for the MVFC

Alot of names being thrown around already which is cool. Alot of different backgrounds and experience levels that these coaches all have.

Cousin Eddie, you ask about Paul Rhoads and right away someone chimes in he wasn't worth a crap at Iowa State. This is what's going to happen when you speculate, but I will tell you in all candor if you could hire him, it would set The Valley on its ears. Not fully knowing what his contract says with Iowa State, it's not beyond comprehension he would come. Here's why. His buyout at ISU I understand to be $4.5 million. Most times in these cases, if they take another job, they simply subtract what the new schools pay is from what the buyout is. Therefore, this is one case where we could get a big time coach for a period of time and not worry about coming up with huge dollars OR one year contracts. Paul's background is he was a D coordinator at Pitt and Auburn amongst other coaching stops along the way. He is a great guy, fantastic motivator, and quite honestly is a USD type of guy. He's from Ankenny, so he knows the midwest. His past experiences gives him a knowledge of recruiting regions unlike Stugart or Deboer or names like that. I'm not picking on those guys, or discounting them, but now we can't afford to make a mistake. And why no hire is a guaranty, you need to minimize the chances. I'm not for a D2 coach or Arena coach, I want experience at this level or higher. Quite frankly, I want someone with national recruiting knowledge, not just regional. . You clearly don't know him. I do. He is not a great guy behind the sceans and is nothing like Glenn when it comes to being a good guy Not that it matters, but I do know Coach Rhoads very well. And he is a good guy. He's not like Joe Glenn personality wise, but very few people are. The fact I know him is irrelevant. That fact and $5 gets you a happy meal at McDonalds. All coaches get fired. Gene Chizek left Iowa State, won a national title at Auburn, then was fired from there. Sat out 2 years, became the D coordinator at North Carolina and now once again is on a lot of AD's short list. What's really important is that the coach fits in the new school.

My two cents (well, maybe one cent):
1) Younger, up-and-comer with success as Head Coach
I've seen too many coaches with great success as coordinators not make it at the next level.
2) Knows this region (upper midwest background) and is a great recruiter.
Gotta steal some talent from our competition. Also need to know our competition very well (often overlooked).
3) Focus on defense The best teams in the Valley always have the best defenses
4) Knows how to evaluate and develop talent.
Something I know squat about but crucial in my opinion.
5) Has an offensive "system" that ties into the types of players recruited.
Yes, recruit the best talent available, but an option-oriented offense would probably demand different players than another type of system.
6) Passionate about Coyote football
Considered skipping this but passion breeds leadership which often brings success.
