IMO, the Athletic Dept needs to make a bigger deal out of the Spring Game. Hyping the Spring Game, along with seeing our our new coaching staff in action, should get fans more excited. Use the Spring Game as a momentum builder for the Fall. Encourage people to come out and tailgate, get the band to come out and play the fight song, etc... We will be tailgating the Spring Game and I know of a couple others as well who will be out there. No reason why it can't be a festive atmosphere... Heck, Michigan (I know we aren't Michigan), had over 40,000 people show up to watch their Spring Game. Lets build up the 2016 football season starting right now!

I didn't see that anyone had posted this, but the football team will be practicing in Sioux Falls on Saturday, April 9th. Practice will be at the Sanford Fieldhouse from 2-4 pm.

Honestly the spring game is an organized and glorified practice and that is all that it is. There really isn't a compelling reason to see the game anymore than someone would want to go on the side lines and watch a regular practice. Spring practice should be more about the coaches and players and overall preparation more than about a fan experience but that is just my opinion. Spring is for baseball and golf moreso than football and I just can't get into football mode in April. I don't want to see the Coyotes put the beat down on themselves so I will wait until fall when they can lay a whipping on someone else.

They have a full-on scrimmage and we'll get to see what the new offense looks like. And for those of us who are hungry for anything college football, we will take what we can get this time of year. Plus, there are usually a bunch of recruits who attend the Spring Game so it would be good for them to see a strong fan base show up to watch as well.

Right... I get it... it's the last practice of the Spring camp. However, it is a live, full contact scrimmage where they are competing for their positions. My point is, if the bigger schools can get fan numbers of 20K to 40K+ show up to watch a Spring Game, why can't we show the same enthusiasm and get a decent turnout? I went over to watch practice while we tailgated before the WNIT Championship and had a great time watching the team scrimmage last Saturday. It's an excuse on a Saturday afternoon in the Spring to tailgate, eat good food, drink a few beverages, and watch college football. Consider it a teaser/preview for the upcoming season. Trust me when I say that recruits notice when the fan base shows up to watch and show their support for things like the Spring game. I've been following Michigan and Big10 football for just over a couple decades now and the recruits, at every school, always comment about how amazing it was to see such a huge turnout for the Spring game. It gets them excited to be part of something like that.

Umm, a practice that we fans also get to participate and practice our tailgating skills. It is a good dry run (ok, wet run) for the upcoming season. Do we have enough extension cords? How about the positioning of the grill? Is the grill big enough or do we need to upgrade for next season? Maybe we go with a smoker? New flag, pole, tent? There is just so much prep work and organization.
Ok, I'll be honest. We've regressed to a bunch of guys standing around a cooler, a radio, and a little charcoal grill last year. We had a season where we went back to the beginning, back to our roots, and did some hard core tailgating with no frills. We're looking to step it up next season and make some upgrades though.
A major feature that I would love to see is for the area around the Dome to become WiFi enabled. No more having to mess with sat dishes or tv antennaes, I could simply stream WatchESPN or BTN2Go without burning up all my data. Hopefully Herbie can get Facilities Management on that.

Love your idea of WiFi streaming around the Dome! Hoping they turn the old soccer fields into a parking lot as well to get the majority of fans in the same area (Tailgate Nation is a little rich for our salaries - although the West parking lot was a great deal of fun last year for us FREE Tailgaters.) Also, so glad to be be talking about football again... even if it's about the Spring Game and tailgating.

I know this sounds crazy, but back in the spring of '79, '80, and '81 the alumni came back and played a game against the team. We are in such a PC world I doubt it could happen, but it was a blast.

I'll bet that was pretty cool...! Guessing with liability issues today, that would not even be a consideration.

It was a lot of fun. The 79 game the alumni tied the varsity. The next two, the varsity drilled us. The interesting fact was how it brought back former players into the fold and excited again. The oldest guy that played was 62. Linebacker. He was a tough ol bird. Lol. Lots of fun

I used to think that it would have been a great time, not so much anymore as the years are piling on. lol. Where did the alumni get their equipment? Or was it BYOE (bring your own equipment)? If this happened today, I can picture injury lawyers lined up around the field with decks of business cards in their hands...haha
