It's now June. Time to open this up for discussion. Below is the 2016 season schedule for reference:
@ New Mexico Weber State @ UND @ Youngstown St UNI @ Indiana St Illinois St Western Ill @ Southern Ill @ SDSU NDSU
Topic #1 - Can the Coyotes shock the Lobos and start the Coach Bob era off with a win at New Mexico?
Topic #2 - Will the Coyotes run the table against the Big Sky (vs. Weber State, @ UND)?
Topic #3 - Where do the Coyotes finish in the MVFC, better than 4-4, worse than 4-4?
Topic #4 - Beat STATE? Make it 2-in-a-row against the Bison? Finally get the Jacks-monkey off our back?
Topic #5 - Playoffs? Did you say playoffs?
Go.

First year staff, new schemes, tough conference, ... I would be shocked if we do better than 5-6 and 4-4 in-conference. Guessing we beat UND, ISU, WIU, SIU, SDSU If we do that, and are not blown out in the other games, I wouldn't be disappointed. His aggressive recruiting should start to pay off in years 2, 3, and 4.

Thought about starting this topic last week but thought it would be too early. Glad someone else sparked the conversation. #1 - New Mexico returns 17 starters from a team that went 7-6 ending with a bowl loss against Arizona. Maybe we lead them at halftime or something but a win seems quite unlikely. #2 - Yes, we will beat Weber State and UND. The Big Sky is a very weak conference outside of the top one or two teams and these guys are nowhere near that threshold. #3 - Push, we will go 4-4 in MVFC play. #4 - Beat State? Maybe. Unless NDSU falls apart our best chance will be in Brookings. #5 - Finishing with a record of 6-5 we won't be in the playoffs unless we have a key victory and the MVFC upholds its reputation. I expect the team to be improved this year, but not much improved. Our big step forward likely is still a year or two away.

I predict with Streveler at QB, the offense becomes a potent weapon. Topic #2 -- yes, I agree the Big Sky is weak in the bottom tiers. Topic #3 -- will go out on a limb, be extremely pessimistic (unlike CF), and say we finish better than 4-4 in the MVFC. Topic #4 -- No topic #4... GO YOTES!!! Topic #5 -- this will be another close game with the Yotes squeaking out a victory over Bunnies. Topic #6 -- We make the playoffs for the first time since transitioning to D1 FCS!

LOL. I totally brainfarted and skipped right over #4. Edited the original post and added the schedule (something I should have done to begin with, thanks kiyoat).

Here are my predictions.
@ New Mexico - LOSS Weber State - WIN @ UND - WIN @ Youngstown St - LOSS UNI - LOSS @ Indiana St - WIN Illinois St - WIN Western Ill - WIN @ Southern Ill - WIN @ SDSU - WIN NDSU - LOSS
Topic #1 - Can the Coyotes shock the Lobos and start the Coach Bob era off with a win at New Mexico? Probably not but I am hoping for a good game.
Topic #2 - Will the Coyotes run the table against the Big Sky (vs. Weber State, @ UND)? Yes. 2-0. If we had to travel far I think we might drop on but the road game is in Grand Forks.
Topic #3 - Where do the Coyotes finish in the MVFC, better than 4-4, worse than 4-4? Better, finish 5-3.
Topic #4 - Beat STATE? Make it 2-in-a-row against the Bison? Finally get the Jacks-monkey off our back? Beat SDSU. Bison come in hungry for revenge. 1-1.
Topic #5 - Playoffs? Did you say playoffs? 7-4, 5-3 MVFC. Playoff bound. First round road game.

Make it 2-in-a-row against the Bison? Finally get the Jacks-monkey off our back? Topic #5 - Playoffs? Did you say playoffs? Go. I purposely didn't read the rest of this thread because I don't want any bias at all in what I think will happen. Guessing what is gonna happen is about as hard of a prediction this year then it has ever been. So much has changed that making a credible estimation is really a shot in the dark. I do believe the exitement level gets taken up a few notches. I think from the lowest rung of the assistants to the head man itself the Coyotes were seriously lacking in X's and O's when it comes to the modern game of football and what it takes to win in the Valley. This year I think this team gets a serious upgrade in the coaching of all aspects of the team. I am a believer that coaching and philosophy is the biggest factor in overall success and I think it even trumps recruiting to a large degree. As much as some may disagree I believe a good coach can come in and make a noticable impact right off the bat. The Valley is tough but the Coyotes have the ability to win in it just as much as any other program other than maybe NDSU. It would be nice to see the team for a couple of games but that is not a luxury right now so here goes. at New Mexico: Very tough opener obviously but I don't think the Yotes are going to be running into a buzz saw either. They will be learning a new offense and if they had a few weeks of it under their belt I could see a win but I will probably go with the Lobo's by 10-14 but the Yotes will play well. vs Weber State: I see a win here. They will have learned from the New Mexico game and Nielsen will make the adjustments and the dome will be rocking for the first home game. I see a surprising 17 point win. at UND: They broke a long losing streak at NDSU last year so why not break another long losing trend in Grand Forks. I don't think the Sioux are that good but usually the Coyotes are just not good enough to win here. Coyotes pull one out late and the bandwagon begins to fill. at Youngstown State: Damn I would like to pick another win here but chalk this one up to needing a little bit more time to gel as a team. I will go with the Penguins by 7 in a good one vs UNI: The Coyotes finally get the monkey off the back against the Panthers at home. Yotes win another tight one by 3. at Indians State: I think this is the game that the Yotes really start to take an identity of their new coach. The Coyotes used a very nice offensive attack and win fairly comfortably by 16. vs Illinois State: The Coyotes show that they are for real and do a complete 180 from what they did against the Red Birds a year ago. The Coyotes defense plays tough but it end up being a track meet that the Coyotes win by 7. vs Western Illinois: An anticipated game turns into a Coyote romp as they take down the Necks by 24 at the Dome. at Southern Illinois: The Coyotes continue their absolutely superb play and take down the Saluki's on the road by 10. at SDSU: A very much anticipated game as this has playoff implications for both teams. USD leads the Jacks in the standings coming in but this is one of those afternoons where nothing goes well but the Jacks still only win by 10. This is the last year that the Jacks will own this series. The next year in Vermillion the Coyotes will basically have everything go right and win by 3 touchdowns. at NDSU: With the playoffs still very much up for grabs the Coyotes are taken down by an NDSU team that is angry about what happened the previous year and enact some revenge in a 13 point revenge win. The Coyotes finish 7-4 and 5-3 in the Valley. The Coyotes no longer have to convince people that they are better because their play on the field proves it without a doubt. The Coyotes are a 50/50 shot at a playoff birth but my gut tells me that the program needs one more year of respect before the committee puts them in. topic 1) The Coyotes give it a hell of a shot but fall just short at New Mexico topic 2) Without looking at the question I just happened to pick them to sweep the Big Sky topic 3) picked them better than 4-4 but I am admittedly going out on a limb on my early prediction. topic 4) Unfortunately this damn monkey lives another year topic 5) many angry Yotes fans but because of losing their last 2 they come up just short

Wow. Pretty positive there. If the Yotes go 5-3 in the Valley and sweep the BSC they will be in the playoffs, fwiw.
I also think the talent is there for USD and that coaching will be a big difference. Not that I thought Joe was a bad coach, just that I think this staff is overall stronger.

I hate implying our previous staff was at all incompetent, but perhaps with better coaching we will see a team that performs more consistently. Rather than the team that got blown out by YSU and WIU in consecutive weeks then posted perhaps the program's biggest win ever. Talent isn't something I expect to be improved due to our departures but it won't be a big drop.

You are right and on second thought 7-4 probably does get them in if the Valley is once again strong.

I have to start by saying that I thought the previous staff was better than others on here felt. However I'm ready to move on and support this staff and this team. I believe this team would have been 6-5 under the previous staff and if we make the switch at QB I'll go with 7 wins. (Sager cost us UNI game for sure and I could also argue SDSU) If. The new staff is as good as most of you think. I'll go with 8 wins. There.... I think I'm the first to predict that

Lots of optimism on this thread, and I sincerely hope you are right. Nothing would make me happier than a coyote team in playoff contention. Unfortunately, I'm not convinced this is going to be the year. It will be interesting to see if Streveler is as good as advertised, but I'm still in Saegar's camp. I would rather have a 2 year starter that has meshed with the guys around him than a transfer looking for a home. I think we'd be better suited with Streveler lining up at WR. My biggest concern with the team as a whole is the defense. I just don't think we have the guys on that side of the ball, especially on the line. With the no huddle offense Nielsen and company are implementing, there's a very real possibility that the defense could spend A LOT of time on the field. That makes me nervous.
My prediction: New Mexico: L Weber State: W UND: W YSU: L UNI: W InSU: W ISU: L WIU: W SIU: W SDSU: L NDSU: L
As much as I want to put the state game down as a win, I just don't think the team will be ready to do it in Nielsen yr 1.

I agree except for the QB part. Saeger is a good leader, but with the new coaching staff he really doesn't have an advantage of knowing the offense better than any other QB. It should be an open competition with the best player getting the start. If it was the same staff as last year I would say keep Saeger as QB1 no doubt.
