UNI blew a 10-0 4th quarter lead to give YSU a 14-10 victory.
Western Illinois blew a 31-14 4th quarter lead and had to score a last minute TD to get a 38-35 victory over Missouri State
Illinois State didn't blow anything. They held on for a 31-28 win over SIU, somehow just their first MVFC victory on the season (1-3). Southern Illinois now has last place all to themselves.

One thing that is kind of promising is that the Coyotes arguable didn't play a great game today and still managed to get the win and that was before ISU's comeback started. That is a good sign to get a road win without playing their best. The D was very good until the last couple of drives of regulation.

Great to get a road win!! Kudos especially to Ryan for coming in at QB and doing a very good job! Also Fredrick had his best game of the season! Last 2 drives were killing me with clock management. In the first one we were somewhat?? trying to milk the clock but ran 3 plays with 15 seconds left on the play clock then on the last drive on 3rd and 8 we throw a long sideline pattern when we could have run the clock down to 1 minute so instead gave them 140. With proper clock management the game should have been over in regulation. Interestingly the bison gave the rabbits 40 more seconds on their 3rd down incomplete pass on their last drive was a great help to state or let them preserve a time out. Don't get me wrong--LOVE the victory but we made it a lot tougher than it needed to be. Also our offense went totally bland in the 2nd and 3rd Qs but fortunately was much more diverse in the 4th! We need to keep improving and keep fighting each play. GO YOTES!!!

I will stand up for Nielson's decision to pass on 3rd down every time in the situation they were in. The Coyotes get that and the game is over right there. It's called playing to win and I like that mentality every time and I like a coach that plays that way. It didn't work out yesterday but so be it. If you run it up the middle you are guaranteeing that ISU gets a shot with a little under a minute left. As it turned out they got their shot with a little more time left then that. Either way without the Yotes getting a first down ISU gets a shot at it. They may have kicked the field goal either way. Instead of going deep I would have designed something a little safer, maybe a half back screen pass, a bubble screen or a slant route. I liked going for the first down and the ball game. It didn't work out that time but the Coyotes have lost many games by running it up the middle and playing not to lose only to allow defenses easy outs. If the Yotes play agressive and play to win and end up losing I would much rather lose like that then to crawl into a shell and play right into the hands of a defense.
It wasn't pretty but I really liked some of the things that Nielson did in that game and I would have said that win or lose. ISU had to have so many plays go perfect for them to win the game and they nearly pulled out a very unlikely win. My gosh when a field goal hits the upright and bounces all the way across the face of the goal posts and nearly hits the opposite goal post but goes through at that point you just gotta figure that it is not your day. Luckily the gods had a little something different in store for the Coyotes this time around. I am so excited for these next 2 home games with so much to play for instead of just pride.

What a great day for USD football. I was at the game and watched two evenly matched teams slug it out. The one thing you can say bout the MVFC is that from top to bottom it is unbelievably balanced.
A few observations from being there regarding the game. Of the 63 points scored, they were all scored at one end with the exception of the long pass ISU had. And regarding that play, it never would've happened if the officials had sone their job. That play, and the one before it where pass interference was called against us, the offensive left tackle literally pulled our defensive end to the ground with holding as he was zeroing in on the QB. The first time, the play where interference was called, that play would have been replayed, and the ball was somewhere around midfield. On the touchdown, the ref even reached for a flag, then pulled his hand back. It was a blatant hold, and Coch Nielsen rode herd on their ass hard bout both calls. Now going back why I made reference to what end of the field everyone scored on, was because of a fairly strong wind. It wasn't gale force obviously, but certainly affected the kicking games. The team that had the wind scored. Period.
If you watched the game, the one play where Saeger threw for a TD but the refs called it back because they said our receiver stepped out of bounds on his own accord. I was standing right there where it happened, and in my opinion, was forced out by the defensive back. That being said, even if he wasn't, I think he had reestblished himself in the field of play, and I think that gives him the right to make the play, but I need to check on the rules for that. But I believe he scored the TD and should've counted.
Last comments about the game are this. Our defense didn't break. Period. They give up yards at times, often in big chunks, but they don't fold. I think it's starting to become woven into the fabric they are. They are resiliant. When we brought pressure from different points, whether it was up the middle, or from the corners, it was effective. Great job of balancing that by our DC. Regarding the 3rd down call on throwing the ball, that's a tough decision to make. ISU would've gotten the ball with about 52 second left as opposed to 1:42. There are two reasons I may not have thrown the ball. One was obviously the clock, and we were going to punt into the wind. Bergner had semi shanked a punt earlier, and if he did it into the wind again, they would've had a really short field and lots of time to operate with the wind. The second reason I maybe wouldn't have thrown was it was 3rd and pretty long....throwing into the wind. However, all that being said, as CF said, they played to wind, and that I can't find fault for. That's why they coach and we don't.
Non game comments are as follows:
1.) I don't want to hear from anyone in this league about our school, town, or facilities. ISU's facilities are what we would say are horse$hit. They are horrible. Only one side has seating. The press box is awful. The whole setup is awkward. 2.) Not to offend anyone from Terre Haute, but the portion of town I saw is not very nice and literally as if there is little pride in the sense houses are falling apart and very few of them were kept up. 3.) If attendance was 3500 as someone said, then last week in the Dome we had over 20,000 for our game. Horrible attendance....but the ones there did make noise and the students actually stayed for the whole game.
My point in all this is we constantly hear this crap about Vermillion and the Dome. We don't have to take it. Our facilities are just find. Update and improve the Dome, and we are there in the upper echelon. Western Illinois is about the same. Illinois States were bad, but they did a major rennovation that vastly improved their lot. Missouri State is so so ( if I was AD there, I wouldn't spend the money either) but they are ok. Southern Illinois has a new outside stadium ( that no one goes to ). SDSU obviously has a great outdoor facility, but the jury is still out if they will get fans when they are 3-6 and it's November and north wind is blowing 20 mph. The FargoDome is nice. UNI's Dome is nice. Youngstwon outdoor stadium is ok...nothing to write home about.
In closing, I will just say that it truly is a privilege to be playing in the MVFC. It's a lot of fun. It's great football. And on the FCS level, it's becoming the SEC. Great teams, fun places to go, great coaching...etc. We have 2 weeks in a row at home. They are winnable games, but they aren't givens. We need strong fan support, and loud fan support. Let's back Coch Nielsen and his staff by not only going, but bring somebody with us. I've said this before, it's a great way to spend a fall Saturday. Come tailgate with me if you don't have anywhere to go. You're always welcome. I'll give you directions. Let's get Illinois State and Western Illinois. This team deserves our support. They are playing their asses off.

I forgot to make one last point and I'm not trying to "hog" the board, so I apologize if it comes across that way. But what I forgot to post above was just how cool and important that Ryan Saeger had the opportunity to lead this team to a win. His attitude this season, being benched as a senior, not complaining but rather being the "ultimate teammate", he deserves this moment. Good for him.
The decision was made at half to not play Streveler because he was dinged hard. He wanted to come out and play and not let his team down, but the guys in the locker room rallied around Ryan and convinced Chris they had his back, no they would get it done. And they did. So again, Ryan, take your well deserved bow...you've earned it.

Box score for the game: www.goyotes.com/boxscore.aspx?path=football&id=750Official attendance listed at 3,297. Yikes. Only think I can think of as an excuse for that low attendance would be that this game did conflict with both Indiana and Purdue's football games (both Big Ten schools are within 100 miles of Terre Haute). Looking over the drive chart it looks like we had two turnovers that went for zero points, though one of those ensuing drives was the goaline stand. Happy to see the team give up no points off turnovers in consecutive weeks. No coincidence that they were both wins. 3,297 in the box score means there were probably only 1500 people there. Very few crowd shots on the ESPN3 broadcast but from what I saw 1,500 wouldn't be far off.

The only shots of the crowd I saw on the broadcast were very tight shots so there was no seeing the whole stadium. I know we exaggerate attendance, everyone does to an extent, but we certainly aren't multiplying by 2 like Indiana State apparently is. Surprising that a school of 13.5k students in a city of 60k can't draw fans for a competitive team. Even their homecoming game only had stated attendance of 6,800.
