Man, I was excited for him to play at USD. Sounds like he was pretty committed to play at USD, especially being an earlier commit (decommitting from NDSU). My assumption, based on pure speculation, is he is looking for that FBS scholarship. Good luck to him, though.

I have no clue whatsoever. But something had to have changed assuming he was there for summer workouts.

My guess is it's an academic issue. Lincoln Gibbs tweeted at him and said "Can't wait to see you in red" or something along those lines so I'm guessing he's trying to get eligible and possibly come to USD

I replied to this post because I think the Christian/Streveler comparison is a tough one to call. Christian's freshman year, he ran and he was more of a weapon that way. Last year, he didn't run much so he was way down in the aspect of his game. He also had 2 receivers that might play on Sunday's to pad his numbers. Streveler was a much better runner last year, put up solid numbers passing and had an all around good season. He had some solid receivers but not like SDSU's big two. If you switched teams for them, it might be Streveler by quite a bit. Since Christian didn't run last year, I don't even know if he was better then Lujan(as you can tell, I think Christian is good but not earth scattering).
Two years ago, Weineke was the conference player of the year and I think that Goedart should have won the award last year. You throw to those two, you should put up big numbers.

Preseason polls are nice to talk about but that is about it.

In the 2014-15 WBB preseason poll

1) SDSU 513 (27)
2) USD 420 (4)
3) IUPUI 408
4) Western Illinois 358 (1)
9) NDSU 158

SDSU had one player Megan Waytashek on the preseason first team and no players on the second team.
USD had Nicole Seekamp on the first team and Rachel Contreras and Tia Hemiller on the second team.
Western Illinois had one player on both the 1st and 2nd teams but they were picked 4th.
NDSU was picked last in the conference and they had (Brooke LeMar) as many all conference (first team) players as the SDSU team that was picked first.

Last year, SDSU had four players on the first team and one player on the second team (and really nobody else other than Lexi) on their team. They lost the preseason conference player of the year and didn't have any depth.

SDSU did as good or better with only 1 preseason all conference player as they did with five. Depth might be why they didn't have any other all conference players a few years ago. If you play a lot and put up numbers, you get recognized. If you only play some (USD's receivers), you might not get as much hype.

I don't care if you hate State or not, no one can take away the fact that those 2 receivers are frickin awesome. But Christian is also a good quarterback. I've said this before and I'll say it again. I predict SDSU wins the league but loses in Vermillion. The other key game to look for is USD vs. WIU in Macomb. I think the Coyotes have a punchers chance in winning that game and finishing 5-3 and make the playoffs.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

I am not sure exactly what your point is about the women's basketball poll and all conference picks from 14-15. The Coyotes obviously won the conference that year and they had 3 players on the all conference team which seems about right considering they ended up winning it. The Jacks had one player but ended up finishing second. The only thing I can really take from that is that the Jacks were obviously over rated in the poll like they are every year for the last 3 years.

YF - I do agree that the Jacks will win the MVFC and I agree that the two receivers they have are awesome. I am not sure about Christian he can fall anywhere from very good to mediocre. When game planning for the Coyotes and Jacks most teams are going to try to stop Steveler first and the Coyotes receivers and running backs second. Those same teams are going to very much look to stop the Jack's receivers before anything else. That is just my opinion. Christian is hyped up much for the reason that a quarterback is often looked upon as a team award and the Jacks have been the much better team. As far as the Jacks vs Coyotes in Vermillion. The Coyotes are an improving team but the Jacks could very well have the best team they have had in their history coming in. I see SDSU winning in the neighborhood of 45-35 in a good one but if this thing comes down to a one possession game in the final minute SDSU usually comes through in those moments when they play the Coyotes and their experience will probably pay off. If the Coyotes do win I think they will have to win significantly to do it. Until USD proves they can beat the Jacks I am taking SDSU until that South Dakota globe starts turning on a different axis. I am leaning towards taking the Coyotes to win all their home games until the SDSU game. But the YSU game is still a difficult call. If there is one conference road game I can see the Coyotes winning it is the one in Macomb. If the Yotes don't have a point to prove and want revenge badly I will be very disappointed. That was one of the most gut wrenching losses ever last year. It derailed the entire season from that point forward.

USD might have been right that year but Western Illinois should have been 2nd instead of 4th according to the preseason all conference player picks. Western Illinois had a player on the first and second teams and nobody else did. NDSU was picked 9th and they had as many first team all conference players as SDSU who was picked 1st.
You can't go by players on the preseason all conference polls to determine anything. It sure makes you feel good about your teams chances but they have to go out and prove it on the court, field or whatever.

This really is a amazing to me. Almost half of SDSU's starters are considered pre-season 1st team all conference. USD has zero. The pre-season hype for SDSU is off the charts, it's going to be awesome to watch them choke it this season.

I guess anything less than an SDSU championship season should be considered a failure, and a finish out of the cellar should be considered a success for USD.

The level of disrespect for USD football is really incredible to me. I see it all the time on these message boards but it appears it is now institutionalized into the media. I could almost understand it if we were going through winless seasons, but by most accounts Nielson is building a solid program and the talent level has increased. I guess not though. Oh well.

Admittedly, I don't follow USD football closely enough to know, but at what position(s) do you feel USD was slighted a first-team all conference selection? Who should have made the team, instead of the selected player, who didn't?

(BTW, I'm asking in all honesty - no smack).

I can't think of one. I'm not upset by the preseason picks. Hard to make a case for much of anyone other than those who made honorable mention, other than maybe Brandt Van Roekel. But with his injury last season he wasn't able to fill the stats like you need to to make the cut.
