Pretty sweet move. I'm quoting myself because my original message did not come through per my error.
I agree in a rivalry bulletin board material is not needed to motivate. But since we are not your rival both teams will need it.
I think we can certainly let fan base members decide who they feel is a rival. Personally I'm old enough that to me USD is a rival. To others, maybe they don't view it that way. I won't pretend to speak for others.
What I do know is individual sports members rivalries can certainly change based off the quality of opponent. And in that case, a team may have a rivalry with a team that can differ from the general fan. For instance, if we want to argue that NDSU is SDSU's main rival, do I think the women's basketball team gets as geared up to beat a team that we have beaten 22 out of the last 24 times we have played them than they do USD? I certainly don't think so. However, USD has beaten them for the conference title the last two years and denied them a trip to the NCAA's, so I think athletically you get geared up to beat the other top dogs despite what a fan base may generally as a rivalry. Back in 2009-11 I'm sure the games the SDSU women circled on the calendar were the ones against Oral Roberts as that was the team that was winning the regular season titles and so was the team you needed to beat to be on top. Certainly not a program the general SDSU fan has generally viewed as a rival since our move to D1.
But if you want to move to other sports like FB and men's BB, I'm sorry but you are simply not the biggest rival we have. The simple fact that NDSU has been our impediment in FB and we have been theirs in basketball (and the other way as well) has produced a rivalry in those sports that doesn't exist against USD. Simply put, you haven't been good enough to create that scenario. Sorry if this bursts your bubble, but it's true. And again, I say this as someone who views USD as a rival, but in certain sports you are not at the same level as NDSU. However, in women's basketball, yes you are. However, if your women start to suck again and someone else gets better, that may change....

I can't speak for everyone else on this board, but I still despise the bunnies... who gives a crap what your fans think!?! I sleep well enough at night knowing that your fan base is secretly crapping themselves because they know the Yotes are on the verge of beating you again on a regular basis in all sports. Can we please move this discussion over to the Coyote Men's Basketball section now and talk about your chances of beating our men?

We are certainly having a down year, but we are one win away from having a better conference record than your men's team did 11-12, 12-13, and last year. So I guess you can say a bad year for the SDSU men's team is about equivalent to (but still better than) an average year for a USD team. But hey, don't let facts get in your way... double winky face. |

Same argument every damn year. USD is not a rival of State. You can tell by all of the nice things the bunnies always have to say about "USeD" (so clever), and the amount of bickering going on right here. I could give 2 craps if they view us as a rival. I know damn well who I hate the most. Maybe it's because I went during the end of the DII days and am sick of all the entitled farmers (which many never even attended State but side with them) I deal with daily. To me it's the biggest because of it being in state. If one doesn't agree they are either under 25 years old or are in denial.

FAR from being one of the worst teams in years. |

In all fairness NDSU and SDSU are rivals in trying to outdo the other in telling everyone how great they are in everything through blogs like Any Given Saturday and the bunny board. Only problem is NDSU has earned the right to do that to everyone else through their football program. I'm still trying to decide how SDSU thinks they are in the same universe as NDSU.
steelsd, you must have forgot the 6 year span when your men's team won single digit games against NAIA schools when going division 1 and they were ranked in the 300+ RPI category. USD has had some down years since going D1 but nothing to the effect the SDSU men did. We have not had one single digit win season let along multiple.
