It has taken me a few days to post. Although I am not sure this thread is even about the game anymore. I sat courtside and was surrounded by SDSU fans and certainly heard enough to gauge the demeanor of a plethora of state fans. Before I talk about the fans reactions I wanted to comment on the game.
I am fine with the loss as it is very hard to beat a good team three times. Just like we found out last year. Plus State is a really good team just like USD is a really good team. KU fans think they walk on water and UK fans think they walk on water. Any difference?
The refs were noticed because it was a very physical game. Very physical! IMO there were some ticky-tacky fouls called on both teams and there were some very obvious fouls not called on BOTH teams. Although I do think that state was more physical and the refs let Ober and 'Thompson get away with a lot. Ober is borderline too aggressive with her body checks and forearm to the back and head she does. She pushes constantly and uses her size and weight to impede a player. However USD also got away with several fouls. I do not blame the loss on the refs. They were inconsistent both ways.
They also missed several traveling calls on USD and Thompson for State. Watch her feet she travels a lot. But the refs missed some on USD too. Again inconsistent and seemed to let the crowd get to them, which might happen in Verm too.
State got a lot of things to work in their favor by hustling and Young played the best game I have ever seen her play. The star player for both teams did not play well. Considering usd maintained striking distance given the fact that the bigs were in foul trouble was a big win for usd IMO. We could have lost by more. I look forward to a rematch at the summit.
The lady next to us and several fans immediately behind us literally yelled at the refs on every single possession. If you have red glasses or blue glasses the vision is not 20/20 but rather red 20/20 or blue 20/20. I couldn't believe some of the things they were yelling at. It's like listening to the radio broadcast of two strong homers and wondering if they are watching the same game! But yet I also heard constant vulgar from their crowd. Although none made any comments to me personally one lady told my dad USD was a dirty program. Ridiculous comment considering Ober's style of play, which three diehard State fans agreed with this week when we discussed. She was probably 75 years old!
Coach P has class. Period. I also found it funny that state fans were constantly yelling at Coach P for talking to the refs yet AJ spends the entire game talking to the refs. Double standard.
Tip your hat they outplayed us and deserved this one.
Go Yotes!

USD Law,
I completely agree about SDSU fans and their whiny nature regarding the foul calls. I have noticed this over and over again and it has been going on for years. There is a time and place for fans to get on certain calls and it is human nature to do so but they go way way over the top ridiculous. Every single call that isn't an obvious foul on the Jacks and the crowd is up in arms. It's like they don't understand the game. As a common rule if there is a foul call on one's own team just look at the coach. If he or she is not complaining then you really shouldn't be either. I am a passionate fan but I don't yell at common fouls that are reasonable calls. It's just stupid and makes one as a fan seem like they don't understand the game. There is no such thing as the word neutrality or objectivity when it comes to most SDSU fans. It's like a serum they give everyone that goes on their campus. They are forced with an injection that clouds their judgement and does not allow them to see past the boundaries of their own campus.

This is a good conclusion to the thread, IMO....

I know kiyoat concluded this thread nicely, however, I just love saying "3 peat".

I hate tying for titles, let's have them lose at Western Illinois too.

Big game for SDSU tonight. Assuming USD beats an Oral Roberts team that is in free fall due to injuries, if SDSU can win at WIU that leaves us up 1/2 game on USD with this as the final schedule:
SDSU: at IPFW, home Denver USD: home Omaha, at WIU, at IUPUI
Advantage SDSU.

Yeah, I have a hard time seeing USD taking, or tying for, that top spot without help from WIU tonight.

It's only advantage SDSU if USD loses one of their remaining games and remember SDSU was supposed to have the league wrapped up by now and then some. Whatever happened to that 16-0 Summit record that was supposed to happen anyway. Don't say that losing Miller should have changed that outlook. The Coyotes have lost so much more since they went back to back in the Summit and they are above where many had them. The Jacks and Coyotes are virtually tied.
This is a ton of assuming but if SDSU beats Western Illinois and their remaining home games and the Coyotes win their home games and beat both IUPUI and WIU then here is what the women's standings would look assuming WIU and IUPUI don't lose any other games. I personally think WIU is going to win one or both games against the Dakota's so this will probably be irrelevant but here goes.
USD 13-3 SDSU 13-3 IUPUI 11-5 Western Illinois 11-5
In this senario USD and SDSU tie and are also tied in head to head. If the tie breaker between IUPUI and Western Illinois is broken in the standings prior to tie breakers being applied IUPUI swepth Western Illinois so they would get seeded #3. If USD beat them they will have swept the Jags whereas the Jacks only split. USD would win the tie breaker in that senario. If they don't break the tie in that way then both teams would be 2-2 collectively against WIU and IUPUI since the Jacks would have swept the Necks. In that case the breaker would go further down the standings and Omaha will finish ahead of NDSU. SDSU's loss to Omaha will cost them the tie breaker in that senario and USD would still get the #1 seed. The only way that SDSU would win the tie breaker is if Western Illinois finishes ahead of IUPUI and not just tied with them.
What I don't want is the Coyotes and Jacks to end up either in the 1 and 4 slots or 2 and 3 slots. Just about anything is possible at this point with these 4 teams. IUPUI is probably in the worst shape based on tie breakers because they have lost to Western twice and to USD once plus split with SDSU. This is kind of a fun confusing.
The bottom line is that the Coyotes and Western Illinois are the only two teams that have their destiny in their own hands as far as winning the #1 seed. If either win out either would get that #1 slot. IUPUI and SDSU need help.
I guess if needing help in the better position then more power to the Jacks but the Coyotes don't need help. They win out and they can store their red jersey's in their lockers at the SCSC. If Western does then they can leave their purples in Illinois. I don't think anyone pegged Western Illinois to be this good but I did mention them earlier in the year as a team to look out for where most were mostly just worried about IUPUI and maybe ORU. If there was ever a time for women's basketball in McComb to make it's mark and to get fans out to the arena this is that time. They have two huge home games coming up and there is no reason that they shouldn't draw very nicely for at least a couple of those games.

Don't you listen to Matt Zimmer or any other SDSU fan?

Because SDSU's bench would be the starting five on every other summit league team. Don't you listen to Matt Zimmer or any other SDSU fan? That isn't true. I certainly don't think that. I guarantee you Matt Zimmer doesn't think SDSU's bench would be starting five on every other Summit League team. That just isn't true. There are certainly some of their bench players that could start for some other teams, but most would not start for most other teams. Macy Miller is a great player and losing her was going to effect them. I thought they could go 16-0 in conference, more likely 15-1. I didn't think it was probable, I thought there was a chance though. They didn't and losing Macy played a big part in that. So did the rest of the conference being a lot better than most people anticipated.
