Thanks, I always enjoy hearing things from another perspective. I know every fanbase has its............degenerates. Good luck to you guys. I really think it's going to be a helluva game. Personally, I didn't see anything that inflammatory in Yotes' post. He was basically saying the same thing you were: That Iowa fans will show up well for an NIT game because they don't consider themselves "too good" for the NIT, or are "shocked" that they fell to the NIT. Not a huge insult, IMO. I don't consider Yotes a "degenerate" or part of the "douchebaggery of USD fandom" as you have called him. If you're not careful we might mistake you for one of the thin-skinned Rabbit fans we deal with on this board. Thanks for the contributions, though. I also saw issues with his post. He was looking to flame. You need to remember there are a lot of dual USD/Nebraska fans that hate Iowa and are going to come out for this one.

So now that the children are off to bed, what do you guys think has to happen in order for USD to win Wednesday night? I see the NIT is doing a trial foul system similar to the women's game. There will be no 1 and 1's only double bonus opportunities that will reset at the 10 minute mark of the half.
USD shoots a lot of free throws but does not have a very good percentage. This could be a factor that helps keep the game close as our sub par free throw shooting will be aided by a guaranteed 2 shots.

I'm going to make a sweeping generalization based off the one friend I have who is an Iowa fan. They don't ever seem bothered to participate in the NIT or crap bowl games, that is if they make a bowl in the given year. It's never an expectation to be among the best and just falling short of the NCAA tournament is more the natural order of things rather than failing to meet expectations that could have been set the past few years.Basically, this isn't Kentucky we're talking about here. What? You could not be more wrong with that statement. The expectation at Iowa is to win the division, contend for conference titles, and a NYD bowl game in football. In basketball it was the NCAA tournament, every year. That was until the Todd Lickliter era when he destroyed the program. Fran is building the program back and had them up as high as a top 5 ranked team as recently as last season. As for this year's basketball team, Iowa fans expected a rebuilding year as the team is very young. An NIT bid was expected, an NCAA bid would have been gravy this season, and they almost got one if they had not been robbed by bad officiating in the Minnesota game. They were in the last 4 out and a win against Minnesota would have probably put them on the other side of the bubble. The Yotes are going to have their hands full tonight. Flack has to have a good game, Mooney is going to need to go off, and there will need to be a big time contribution from another player to beat Iowa and advance in the NIT. Well said, and exactly correct.

Just think the Coyotes are only 3 wins away from playing at Madison Square Garden.

I don't really know which is the official thread of this game but I guess it is this one. Nothing real great or poor about the game. It ended right about where it was supposed to end. The Coyotes played pretty well during most of the game but the last 10 minutes was pretty brutal as Iowa wanted it quite a bit more towards the end. A very good season with a nice run to end the year ends with two losses and a near loss to the #8 seed in the conference tourney. Not a great way to end the season but a very good season overall with everything that was accomplished. Thinking back to that Houston game earlier in the year. It looks like the Cougars flat lined and the Coyotes improved a ton. Both were in the NIT but Houston was heads and shoulders the better team in November. I would venture to guess if they played again it would be a much different game. Bright future ahead.

Not to argue, but I disagree on the nothing great comment. Clearly Iowa has better talent, but we played hard the entire game. I'm extremely proud of these guys and Coach Smith and entire coaching staff.
I want to give credit now to another few people that actually made this season happen. President Abbott and AD Herbster and asst. AD Williams for making the European trip happen. This gave USD an opportunity to come together as a team and win the Summit League. Not many people realize how important that was. Jim Abbott has stepped up big time in funding the growth of our athletic department. Herbster and Williams have executed perfectly.
USD is on a solid foundation. Thanks to them.
NOW LETS RAISE HELL IN THE WNIT

Great season for the Yotes! Didn't play very well in the 2nd half tonight or we might not be in reflection mode just yet, but there is a lot of pride to have this year. We not only firmly established ourselves in the Summit League this year, WE WON THE SUMMIT LEAGUE. USD basketball has finally and completely arrived in this D1 era, and we will be the team to beat in the Summit for at least the next two years.
