I found the info about Klett in the podcast to be very exciting. I had also forgotten that Levi Falck was an SDSU baseball player and decided to transfer to USD to play football.

So, Levi Falck sure got a lot of first team reps. Man this team has weapons. Was good to see Shamar back on the field contributing as well. It will take time to know if it was more the opponent or the O line, but Streveler sure seemed like he was going through his progressions last night rather than last season when it was a lot of one read and run for your life. Probably a little of both, but he impressed me with some of his throws.

Anyone hear anything about Van Roekel? I don't think he came back into game after score in 1st quarter...?

Underrated, given that even the bottom teams in the MVFC would consistently beat top 25 teams, but that's nothing new. I'll be surprised if we don't crack the top 25 at some point this year - especially given how backloaded our schedule is.

Anyone hear anything about Van Roekel? I don't think he came back into game after score in 1st quarter...? Brandt was just on the Coyote Report and said he was fine. Greenfield came on next and reading between the lines it sounded like Leohr might be out a while. Nielson also saying Leohr not as close as others. Says some guys, including BVR, are sore and moving a little slow. Said 3 guys who traveled didn't play. Weren't quite sure whether to pull red shirts yet. Said he wishes in retrospect that a 4th QB would have gotten in game. Assuming he means Kaiser.

Also listened to Coyote Report. Don't think we'll be seeing Leohr on Saturday, but there didn't seem to be any other injuries to note.

We've made it through the non-conference at 3-0. Not only was the team unscathed, each game was a major statement. 77 points on Drake, incredibly comfortable FBS win, and 45-7 beatdown on the team ranked 10th in the latest FCS poll. Statement, statement, statement. No one expected this. Few thought 3-0 would happen, and none of them expected it in this fashion.
This now puts us in a position where we merely have to go 4-4 in the MVFC to virtually clinch a playoff spot. Never done either of those before, but the team's never looked like this before. Honestly, the way the team is playing they have looked like MVFC contenders, but the first step is locking up a playoff spot.

What is awesome to see right now, is how good our coaches are at recruiting AND coaching. A whole lot of guys playing in these games right now were in the program before Bob arrived. 3 offensive lineman, all 3 starting LB & some backups, several DT, WR, & DB's. I think the weight facilities have helped, but they have really coached them up and hopefully it only continues to get better.

On the way back from the game today... the wifes driving since I drove pulling the camper on both legs of BG and to Verm. I've been reflecting on the weekend and reading everybody else's opinions. The post I've been thinking about is the writer saying his biggest concern is the possibility of the team getting big heads. Here's my thought;
Somebody posted in another thread that I'm USD lucky charm as they have decidedly won each of the 3 games of come to so far. Im flattered. However, I think I'm a refection of the change in recruiting that's been going on (and I'm not taking a thing away from the players that were recruited by others), but this staff is winning recruiting battles for high quality players. Those players have a following and bring people like me to the games. We will be making every game the next 4 years and am grateful for the hospitality shown us so far. We hope to meet you all!!!
I posted how we rolled into the stadium at 3 am.. Well when we woke up and stepped outside, I noticed we were parked in somebody else's reserved spot. It was around 9 am and another party close by was setting up. When I asked where the first come first serve parking was, they told us no no no... we're going to condense our vehicles and told us we're moving in with them and joining their party. What genuinely gracious people. Thank you!!! We talked with others throughout the day and I feel the same about whoever I met (excluding the parking nazi 😏).
I worked in Iowa for a couple years a few years back and loved the state. I loved it because of the people hard working down home people. I have to say I also love USD fans just as much. My wife and I feel better and better each week about where our son chose to go play. It's hard to let your son move 8 hours away.
I talked with one that moved us in and we talked about my son a bit. How he's a genuine down to earth honest humble boy. He told me he wouldn't be on the team of he wasn't. That Nielson wouldn't have anybody that wasn't that type as Nielson himself is that way and that works its way down as the university president is the same way. We talked about how many of Nielsons coaches have been with him for over 13 years and they're the same as well.
I kept on bringing myself back to the fans/alumni we've met so far. They're the top of the ladder. They're why USD has a president like they do and coaches that they do and players like they do.
Am I worried about the team getting a big head??? HELL NO!!! See you all at WIU. GO COYOTES!!!

Hope to meet you at one of the home games during tailgate backsack. Glad you mentioned such kind words about our school.
In defense of the parking lot peeps. They do charge for those spots, and as our space around the dome is extremely limited, they made changes to the way the spots were configured this year, and it being the first game, they are just trying to make sure the folks who paid for a spot didn't show up the next morning to find their spot was taken. Otherwise chaos ensues. Hopefully it has all been straightened out, and I will try to work my way down from spot 12 and say hello.

Since the baseball pennant races are starting to turn the final stretch how about we think about that in football terms.
Basically the Coyotes magic number is 4 to clinch a playoff spot. The body of work and over all impressiveness of work has already been stamped on the Coyotes resume making it pretty much a formality that the Coyotes will do dancing with a 7-4 record. With Indiana State and Southern Illinois still having to come to the dome barring a significant upset those are 2 big opportunities to reduce that magic number to 2.
Assuming wins in those two games the Coyotes basically need 2 of the following games to go down as victories.
at Western Illinois vs Youngstown State at Illinois State at Northern Iowa at NDSU vs SDSU
That is why the Coyotes would be well advised to focus strongly on taking out Western Illinois. If they can take that game the Coyotes come home for D Days with a chance to win a tough game and put themselves into such a good position for post season and it would only be halfway through the season. Last year the WIU game that got away did so much harm that the Coyotes could never recover and the hangover lasted all the way through the SIU game. Just like the Bowling Green game the time is now to forget North Dakota and really understand the importance of the game in two weeks. I don't want to look past anyone and we know all about the one game at a time philosophy but the Coyotes should look at these next two games as if they were the last two games of the year and the only way to make post season is to win them both.

I think it's really important for everyone to stay grounded despite our fast start. I for one am not surprised that we are 3-0, but I am shocked in the manner of how we are 3-0. Forget Drake, but we totally dismantled Bowling Green at their place and despite it being a 8 point win, I felt like it was more in the 17-20 range the entire game. I was there, and not once did I get the feeling it could slip away. Then saturdays bashing of North Dakota came, and although I did think we'd win, I didn't see the a$$ kicking it was happening.
But now we are where I thought we would be record wise, and a few of you are mapping out a way to make the playoffs. I'm glad as hell you aren't their coach, because I'm telling you they are mapping out a way to win the league. And this staff is truly focusing one game at a time. Barring any more major injuries in our lives, specifically offensive, these kids know that winning a title is no longer a pipe dream. It's possible, and so is a 3-5 finish. This league is barbaric. Western Illinois out there will be a fist fight. If weather isn't good or conducive to our passing game, I'm not sure we have the ground game to win. Then comes Youngstown to Vermillion. I picked SDSU to win the league, but if i truly had to bet on someone and it couldn't be USD, I think now I'd pick Youngstown. However, playing in perfect weather conditions in the Dome, we have a shot at them.
But for anyone to think Indiana State can't beat us is wrong. They played Liberty to a 1 point game, the same Liberty that handled Baylor. But if you think NDSU is a shoe in, go look at their schedule. The last 6 weeks are SDSU, Western, Youngstown, UNI, USD, and Illinois State. 6 freakin meat grinder games in a row. I am now thinking the MVFC champs will be co and have 2 losses whoever that is. And it damn well could be us.
My point is as a fan base we should think like winners. One game at a time. Take no one for granted. And win with class. My sights are now set at 9-2, but just as easily could be 5-6 with injuries. No injuries and we win 8 in my estimation. This is one hell of a staff.
I don't know if anyone noticed they pulled Kai in the 4th quarter for "showboating " but when Coach Nielson did that, I was like over the top giddy. WIN WITH CLASS and ACT LIKE YOUVE BEEN THERE BEFORE. That's the foundation that's being laid.
