So proud to be a Yote today and every day for that matter. What an AMAZING season! So much fun watching this team under Neilson come into its own in only his second season. Truly proud of how these guys came out in the 2nd half and almost took it away from SHSU. Congrats to SHSU on a great game.
Congrats to our players and coaches on their 2017 season. Congrats to the seniors and thank you for choosing to be Coyotes. Anxiously awaiting early signing day and and also signing day in Feb to see who we bring in to advance this team into the 2018 season. Can't wait for 2018 Coyote football!

What a fantastic season, ending with one of the best shootouts I ever watched, too bad the result wasn't different, but congrats to the Bearcats! This season far outperformed most folks expectations. It has been an honor to watch Streveler lead this team for the past two years. I remember watching him in high school, and he was great then as well. A tremendous leader who has set the bar high, and has played with incredible grit!
Coach Neilson and staff have done a great job in two years to take us to the playoffs, and I am confident their expectations are for much. The roster is full of young talent and the fan base better prepare for annual trips to the FCS playoffs. I confident this coaching staff and the players will expect to make the playoffs on an annual basis and will not be satisfied until they bring home a National Title! Great Job Yotes let's bring on the recruiting season, spring practices, and the 2018 season!

In my preseason picks I had us going 6-5. I picked every game correct except BG. We were in every game we played, even NDSU even though the final score doesn’t show it.
Losing Streveler obviously hurts. But hopefully a year of growth and training from the O line will help create a more consistent run game and pass protection for Simmons next season. Coupled with continued improvement from the defense and the future is bright.

What a tremendous year Chris had!!! MVFC and USD single season passing record, 8th best season for total offense in FCS history and Saturday set the FCS single game playoff total offense record with 571 yds and 5 TD passes and ran for another!! In the game he also set a USD single game record of 520 yds passing which was also an FCS playoff game passing record!!
He should be the Walter Payton award winner in FCS!!!

Streveler was probably the best player to ever don a Coyote Uniform. I am so grateful for what he did for this football team. He carried the team quite a bit this year. Maybe some are equal, but I have never seen a player have such a good feel for the game, want to win so badly and be as good of a leader as Chris was for the Coyotes. He is simply an awesome ambassador for the football team and University. He did things the right way and set an example for all others around him with how this game should be played. I wish him the best in his future and it seems like football will be a part of that.

Coyote Football Alumni,
It feels like we should still be playing this Saturday, but instead I am out on the road recruiting after our team was defeated in the second round of the NCAA Division I playoffs against Sam Houston State 54-42.
After a sluggish first half that saw us trailing 42-14, our team responded to the challenge and closed the gap to 44-42 before a late Sam Houston State score and an untimely turnover sealed our defeat. While playing without three defensive starters from the previous week, I was proud of our effort and our fight to battle back into a game that could have easily turned lopsided. Offensively, we accounted for 650 total yards on the day with Chris Streveler setting a NCAA single game playoff record for total yards and Brandt Van Roekel setting a record for receiving yards in a game.
Our staff immediately hit the road last week as we prepare for the first ever Division I football early signing period that will begin on December 20th. We hope to sign more than half of our 2018 incoming class during the early signing period.
Congratulations to Chris Streveler, on being named one of three finalists for the Walter Payton Award (FCS National Player of the Year). Streveler also set the Missouri Valley Football Conference record for total offense in a single season. The Walter Payton Award recipient will be named January 5th in Frisco, Texas. I, along with several members of the coaching staff and administration, will be accompnaing Chris and his family to the ceremony. Streveler has also been named First Team All-American by the Associated Press. He was joined on the Associated Press All-American team by Stetson Dagel (2nd Team) and Darin Greenfield (3rd Team).
Thanks to all of you alumni, fans and supporters who helped make the 2017 season one to remember and a beginning to something special.
Enjoy the holidays and Fight South Dakota,
Bob Nielson
