Though it's been 5 years and Richmond did his time in the detention center, he isn't someone I'd want representing my school. No petition is going to change Pelini's mind anyways.

The outcome of this one will be interesting... YSU violated no rules taking the kid, however his crime plus conviction would make it near impossible for anyone to take him. Will the public outcry pressure the school to release him and legally can they without repercussions?

Doesn't surprise me a bit. Pelini is a moral leper and that entire program is simply a thug program. They'd take Charles Manson if he could play. This wasn't some stupid kid mistake as one Youngstown supporter claimed, this was more than just a misunderstanding or a consent thing, it was an unbelievably heinous and despicable crime. Research the details and you'll understand where I'm coming from. I hate that we have to associate with YSU, I hate that they're our D Day opponent when we try and celebrate our university and I wish they would simply leave the conference and find another home for their sleazebag of a football team.

To be fair, over on the AGS board there are YSU supporters who are outraged about this as well. The drumbeat is getting louder as fans, alumni, and donors are upset. This thing has only begun to gain steam and would not be surprised to see this being Bo's last season there as a result.

It even has a Wikipedia page: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steubenville_High_School_rape_caseIMO sexual assault committed by teenagers should be tried as adults. Dumb move by Pelini.

He didn't get rid of them, the university did. Avery Moss was kicked out of school and refused readmittance for one example.

Looks like he simply will not be permitted to play in games, but will remain on the team as a practice player.

Looks like he simply will not be permitted to play in games, but will remain on the team as a practice player. ...and will be eligible to play next season. Somehow I don't think this is going to solve the issue. YSU trying to make it go away and it isn't going to go away until the player is completely off the team.

My opinion is that what he did is bad, but I think actually kicking him off the team would be even worse. He committed this crime when he was 16 years old and didn't he already serve his punishment for this crime. Why does he have to continue to serve his punishment? People can disagree with him being on the team and that is fine but I don't think anyone should demand it. Isn't this country about second chances. He didn't do anything wrong while he was a student at Youngstown so I think he should be given forgiveness. Just my opinion and maybe it's an unpopular one.

Yes, he served his punishment pursuant to the government's conditions. He is not being punished in this case. What is happening is that members (students) of an organization (YSU) simply do not want him to represent their organization. If I commit a bad act and cannot gain employment after serving my sentence, am I still being punished for my prior bad act? It is quite common that someone does not receive a job because of that person's criminal history. Why should it be different if the person is an athlete? Additionally, serving your sentence does not equal absolute rehabilitation. Richmond certainly may have been 100% rehabilitated, but it still does not mean he gets to represent an organization merely for his skills as an athlete. The students did not demand Richmond's removal from campus, they merely do not want him to represent their school, which I believe is reasonable.
