Couple of observations after completing the 900-mile road trip:
Brought throat lozenges to the game and used them all up. Not that I'm superstitious, but I'll probably buy some more for Youngstown.
On a related note, I think the crowd did make a difference. Kudus to the announcer who egged the crowd on the make noise every time UND was faced with a 3rd or 4th down.
Our speed seemed to make a difference in the game, especially on defense. UND's line would open a hole for their running back only to see it rapidly close. On offense, it seemed like we completed passes at will. Third and long? No problem...
I noticed Streveler didn't scramble to the outside much in order to deal with the oncoming rush. I thought UND did a pretty good job containing him, but again - no problem.
Arguably our best offensive lineman went down with what looked like a serious knee injury on the second play of the game. I hope it wasn't as bad as it looked.
Special teams seems to be our weakest spot. Hope we can see some improvement there.
Since the Coyotes won I see no hope for my Minnesota Vikings this week. The glass is usually half empty in these situations as a win for both teams in the same week is elusive at best.
Anyway, got over a half inch of rain in the gauge while we were gone. No smoke outside today. Life is good.

I can only wish that UND goes on to win the Big Sky. The better they do the more it helps our strength of schedule. I think they'll pull it together. To me, Santiago is the real deal. I held my breath every time he touched the ball, but our defense did a tremendous job of reining him in. why would u wish them to win the big fluffy? they are a horrible team in a terrible conference. you beat them 45-7 haha You really should lay off the hallucinogens. A mind is a terrible thing to waste.

I've watched the highlights probably 5 times and it never gets old!! Feels so good. I'm enjoying this one a bit more than I otherwise would because of my trip to Grand Forks last year. To avenge that loss with such a comprehensive beatdown on all fronts is vindicating. 31 points and 400+ yards IN THE FIRST HALF against the vaunted UND defense. Our allegedly weak D could not be broken, only ceding one 3rd down conversion and shutting down all four 4th down attempts. The "three headed monster" UND brought at RB never got going, even though run defense was thought to be our weakest spot. I came away from last year's game feeling we were the better team, and the Yotes left no doubt about that yesterday. UND will probably still make the playoffs though because they don't have to play in the MVFC. I hope they get sent to Vermillion again if they do make it.

I have my hot coffee in hand, anxiously waiting the XDSU fans to come on here and tell us what the Yotes trouncing of #10 UND really means...
God, their fan boards must suck!

Was at the coffee cup after the game and the bus with the UND cheerleaders was there.
A number of them congratulated members of my party on the game. Very classy. It will be nice to have you in both the Summit and MVFC soon.

Congrats Yotes fans! Honestly, did not see that beat down coming, though I did mention in my prediction that either team running away with the game wouldn't have been a complete shocker. A few observations:
USD - Streveler was everything we expected and more. The Goofers could definitely use him. - I was impressed with your receivers ability to constantly get open and find space. Though I can't remember a game where I have seen more mistakes by our D, or more blown coverage. - I wondered early how USD would respond to a better O-Lineman going down. Response: You would never even know they lost a starter. Tremendous job. - Revenge complete!
UND - As I mentioned before, Misery St is absolutely not USD. That being said, we looked like a completely different team out there this week. Nobody seemed to want to play. I don't think I've seen that many mental mistakes or penalties in a long time. I don't believe USD got our best game whatsoever, However, had you got our best game, it may not have mattered. USD played a crisp, clean game and exectuted to perfection. Credit where credit is due. - I was disappoint in the timing of some of the play calls on offense, though again, it may not have mattered as Studsrud couldn't hit water from a boat on Saturday. Looked the the Keaton from early last year, not the QB we saw the first 2 weeks. - Our turn to try to get some revenge, whenever we meet again! (playoffs? We have a LONG ways to go ... cue the Jim Mora clip)
My request to USD: Clean up in the Valley this year. You guys are off to a great start. You have the talent and the QB. Don't slip up now, finish strong.
My request to UND: Throw the tape away, turn the page, forget what happened, and focus on conference play. A lot of people may think UND is overrates (justifiably so after that game), but by no means do I think we are actually as bad as what I saw on Saturday; based on what I have seen the first 2 games and last season. Our line-backing core definitely needs some guys to step up and return from injury though. Onto the Bobcats.
Congrats and Good Luck!

UND was the #10 team when they came to Vermillion. They were clearly the statistically inferior team before the game and that's what played out. Their talent has been suspect especiallly at QB. Their running game is feasting on a weak conference built on passing. What happened to them in Vermillion also happened to them in Fargo. The second half against Richmond was a similar thing. Those are top programs. Missouri State isn't. Most of the BSC isn't either.
I have no idea how their season will turn out but they are still mathematically eligible for a playoff spot. The BSC could be a 1 bid deal however. My favorite for that is SUU. If they get another bid look to Weber or maybe UND.
For my 2 cents I think they play about 500 ball if they don't quit. That takes nothing away from the kind of dominating performance the Yotes had against the #10 team. All it says is they are good programs headed in different directions right now.
Who doesn't wish them well? It's the polite thing to do.

Tricky thing is that I'm pretty sure UND isn't eligible for the auto qualifier since they are leaving the Big Sky.

We can still win the big sky title this year and get the automatics playoff spot this year I believe. It's next year we can't.
Anyway about the game........sigh.....USD was what I feared Streveler is a dude! If he keeps this up all year your team is scary. Talking to some fans downtown afterwards, couple guys only worry about him is if he can continuously take hits all year.
Watching our guys was tough, dbs gave way too much cushion to the wrs. One 4th and 11 I believe it was when your guy got a 15 yard cushion and easy conversion. Every little bit of momentum we could try and muster was killed by a penalty of failed 4th down conversion. Kudos to you guys played a hell of a game and deserved that win from the get go. One of the questions I have is would you rather lose like UND did Saturday in a blowout or like USD did last year in a comeback??
All in all it was a fun weekend visiting Vermillion(except for the few hours he game was played). Did some tailgating of our own but did do some walking around visiting and checking out the rigs and setups in your tailgating lots. The people there were so nice! Offered us food and drinks and great conversations. Had to check out one the the rigs was a converted pop up camper, I just made myself one this year so it was awesome to see. The people of Vermillion at the stadium and the night life downtown afterwards was awesome. Very nice and fun conversations, best thing is our shared hatred for the state schools...haha. One thing we could not really figured out is how is there not a taxi service in Vermillion?? The drunk bus is a good idea and came in very handy as we were staying at the red roof inn. Walked downtown from there to begin the evening and had the pleaser to walk through a little of campus, very nice campus. Good luck to the coyotes this year and make some big big noise in the MVFC, I'll be rooting for you!
