So the boys move on to play at Sam Houston St next Saturday at 2pm. Gonna be a busy day of channel flipping because the men's bball team plays Duke next Saturday at 2:30pm on ESPN2.
Great time, as always, to be a Yote!!!

Congratulations Yotes!
The fact that we still managed a win despite some poor tackling and poor officiating makes me very happy. While a lot of those penalties we earned, the call against Godsey was ridiculous and even some very pro-Nicholls State broadcasters disagreed with it. The spot on the 1 yard line for Nicholls was just as bad. The BVR call for ineligible receiver and the call against Frederick for being in motion were also questionable.
Way to overcome and get the win. Going to have to shore up our tackling and play penalty and turnover free football if we hope to stand any chance against Sam Houston State. It's good to still be playing in December!

Let's be honest, that was some really crappy defense we played today. In the end, the D causes a huge turnover at the end to seal the game. Right now it is about Win & Advance but our D is going to need to shore some things up this week in practice.
All that matters is the W. Survive & Advance.

Right now it is about Win & Advance but our D is going to need to shore some things up this week in practice. All that matters is the W. Survive & Advance. There is just some really poor tackling going on by a handful of the team that is really causing problems. That really overshadowed some great performances today by the unit. Greenfield finished with 12 tackles. Obviously there were three picks (the Armstead pick was a really impressive break on the ball to make the play). The refs were calling PI differently than what I saw this year in the MVFC games. Affected both teams. Thought the USD defensive front did better than the stats would imply. The corners played well - even though the cushion they gave the WR at times seemed a little much, but that was probably part of the defensive plan. I thought Schultz was playing really well again - he is getting tougher to block each week. I think on the big fumble at the end of the game he initially caused the ball to come out and Powell stepped up and laid the wood to the guy knocking it out. Our LBs and Safeties need to keep their heads up and wrap up. If they do that today I think this game is a much bigger victory. Survive and advance! I hope and think we will see an even sharper team show up to play Sam Houston State. Hopefully Streveler made it through the game without any more knicks. That hit he took by #55 was a big one. Go Yotes!

I’m pretty sure it was 85 Peguero who caused the fumble. Shouldn’t have ever gotten to that point as they were clearly short on 4th down as he slid the extra half yard but the replay official didn’t have the balls to overturn the call on field. Penalty on Johnson on sideline was almost as horrific as call on Godsey. Far too many penalties that killed our own drives yet we survive and advance. Take a playoff win any way you can get it. And when was the last time, if ever, we won a game in November?

We can celebrate one thing. The Coyotes have the best all time playoff winning percentage of any team in the nation in the FCS. That includes the almighty Bison and injury faking Jacks. It might only be true for a week but everyone better make sure that gets mentioned plenty between now and Sam Houston State.
Honestly this Coyote team is very lucky to win today. If this would have been any of the top 7 Valley teams in their house the Coyotes probably lose. The Coyotes D is really wearing down this year and having players out is not helping. I will add that the secondary wasn't playing well before the suspensions so that only has part to do with it. Losing Wessel hurts the most.
It was good to see the Coyotes play well in the 4th quarter and be able to keep their composure in crunch time. Today's game seems more like relief than elation. The team never makes it easy on themselves on the road but they pulled through and that is all that matters for today.
Next week the Coyotes will have to play significantly better just to stay with Sam Houston let alone beat them. I believe I heard they have never lost a playoff game at home but I am very unsure about that. I am just not sure with the defense if we can hold them to under 40 points. The Coyotes might need to score about 50 to be able to beat the Orange and Blue.
