This has been a no-brainer move for a while now. Finally UMKC got the right leadership to make this move. Here is one of the biggest benefits to the Summit: " The Roos will field Summit League teams in the sports of men's and women's basketball, men's and women's cross country, men's and women's soccer, volleyball, men's and women's golf, men's and women's tennis, men's and women's track and field and softball."So stability in men's sports, especially the team sport of Men's Soccer, is reason enough to have them join. Add to that an enhanced ability for Coyote teams to recruit the KC metro, and a 10-team schedule for basketball, and another school along the I-29 corridor within busing distance, ... home run, IMHO. This helps keep ORU and UNO a little less geographically isolated, too. I think Augie is still in the mix, but they will need 5 years to get eligible. We could lose PFW and their baseball team in that time, so Augie could come on board to fill the baseball need.

Somebody would have to leave before Augustana gets in. I don't see the conference wanting to go with an odd number due to scheduling. We now have travel partners so travel should be more consistent. Should be able to schedule consistently as well with men's games on Thursday/Saturday and women's games Friday/Sunday, or vice versa.

Currently there are 10 DI conferences with 10 teams and 9 with 11 teams. Those are the two most common numbers among the 32 conferences. With that many 11 team conferences scheduling obviously is not really that big of an issue although it gets thrown around as a factor in expansion a lot of times.

I hate games on fridays cause your competing with the high schools on getting fans to the games.

If true, it is a good move for both the Summit League & Purdue Ft Wayne

Honestly, good for them. Slightly higher caliber league (historically) and much more regional for them.
Also good for us because IPFW was simply not a good fit, even when IUPUI was in the league. Summit League is now I-29 (UND, NDSU, SDSU, USD, UNO, UMKC) plus WIU, ORU, and Denver. I also assume Augustana will join the fold at some point to make it a 10-team league again with I-29 being further cemented as the backbone of the league.

Augustana hasn't even formally announced a transition, is not ready yet, and it will be years before they complete the transition. They are not the answer to the Summit's baseball issue, and honestly, shouldn't even be invited into the conference.
USD and UND just need to restart baseball. Problem solved.

I agree, but I know it's more complicated than that. What would the process be for USD to add baseball, if it's even possible?

Do baseball members have to be transitioned schools? If not I could see the league filing waivers until Augustana is transitioning.

We would have to also add a women’s team to balance the number of scholarships.
