Total bummer, but in all honestly, this move makes more sense to me than Middleton and O'Boyle going to Kent State. Tyler's wife just had their first child in 2017. They are from Wisconsin and NIU is closer to home. Couple that with a pay raise, FBS and NIU's track record for coaches moving on to P5 jobs, I can understand the move.

Must be doing something right if our younger coaches keep moving up the ladder. I'm looking forward as to who we get to fill these positions.

Sorry to see Coach Yelk go, but once again shows the program is doing the right things. footballscoop.com/the-scoop/Northern Illinois: Tyler Yelk will join the staff as safeties coach and Walter Stewart as defensive line coach, according to the DeKalb Daily Chronicle. FootballScoop reported on Jan. 22 that Lamar Conard will come aboard as running backs coach.

I suppose this much turnover in the staff comes with a breakout season. As with the rest of the departures, happy to have had them in Vermillion, and happy to see them move up the coaching ladder.

The biggest thing is retaining Bob. With his tenure he knows enough people to be able to find worthy candidates. The players will also still be comfortable because the structure will not change.

I am concerned that with Yelk's departure and a hiring of a defensive coordinator from the outside, the players need to learn a whole new system. Hopefully they will focus on the defense during spring ball to ensure they learn the new system.

Yelk was co defensive coordinator with Bradley so I'm not so sure the scheme will be all that much different.

I'm highly doubting that. Yes, ask your son and he’ll confirm. I think they are looking inside and outside, then they will hire the best possible candidate. This staff and administration has shown they are willing to explore all options to find great people to hire.

Looks like we lost Tyler Yelk to Northern Illinois as well. Surprising. Any of you ever been to DeKalb? Woof. You would have to pay me a significant amount of money to live there.

I have been there - not a desirable location. Yelk has great connections in Wisconsin and DeKalb is two hours from Milwaukee and most of the other recruiting hot-spots in that state. It is an 8 hour drive from Vermillion. I wish him luck. USD is on the rise and any opening is an opportunity to potentially upgrade. We will see soon who the replacement is.
