Winnipeg's other backup QB went 1/8 in their one preseason game. Streveler went 10/10. Me thinks Streveler's CFL debut will be as starting QB.

Here's an announcement tweet from the team's website. There are a couple of negative comments from Bombers fans about the decision. His performance in the 2nd preseason game was less impressive than his first, and that's all the fans have to go by. Luckily the coaches see these players a lot more than in the game, and are basing evaluations on what they are seeing in practice as well.
This was a great thing for Strev, but the competition seems to be very tight. He is still auditioning with every game and every practice. We are rooting for you, Strevy! Go tear it up.

Here's the Coach talking about some of his roster decisions, including QB. This was just from an hour ago.
Talks about Chris at:
2:34 to 3:45 5:53 to 7:24 9:42 to 10:25

Transcript from Coach O'Shea:
Q: Chris Streveler never really got an opportunity to play behind the #1 O-Line ... Was there a belief that Alex Ross was in the lead for that starting position, and Streveler just did enough to beat him out?
A: Yeah, I wouldn't believe that we would just start ranking them: 'on day one, this guy's in the lead, on day two, this guy took over...', you know. I think you have to actually take the time... you have to watch the film again, and really critique it as to what we're seeing. It's easier for LaPo and Buck to say: 'on that play, this receiver didn't do it right', or whatever it is. But we need to sit down and have those discussions, and take a hard look at the film to make good decisions.
I don't think we were looking at guys jockeying back and forth. I thought all the quarterbacks have shown strong points and shown areas where they need to work. In the end, Chris Streveler won the job.

Q: I think that Streveler was signed just after mini-camp, correct?
A: Yeah.
Q: Would that be pretty surprising for you to be standing up here, six weeks later, and saying that he's gonna start for you?
A: No. I don't think so. We've got guys that our scouting department have been looking at for a number of years, and you don't know when they're going to say yes. I think this happens all the time in this business, that guys end up coming up when they decide they want to come up. So if you like their talent, you expect them to do well whenever you get them.
Q: Interestingly, if he starts, he would be first true rookie (coming straight out of college) to start the first game of the season in this league since Anthony Calvillo in 1994. What are some of the special qualities that you see that make you think that he is worthy of that?
A: Everybody can see his athleticism. I think that's the least of the qualities that are gonna make him successful. The word "processing", right? He gets through the play-book and the plays that are called. He gets them very quickly. He retains the information. He makes good, quick decisions. And then comes the athleticism.

Q: Mike, just one last thing about Streveler: With a guy this young, this inexperienced in your league, do you take special precautions to make certain that he isn't overwhelmed out there Thursday? Is the playbook reduced? Are there.....
A: (interrupting) Yeah. I'm gonna go tuck him in at night. Geezus. He's a pro athlete! He's gonna be just fine. He's gonna be just fine, he really will be. No, we're not gonna limit the play-book, or whatever. We have 12 guys on the field on offense, and he's one of them. Everyone's gonna do their job. We're not telling guys that they have to do more. We don't need the defense to do more. We don't need special teams to do more. We just need everyone to do what they're supposed to do, and we'll be good.

If I googled it correctly, and thatโs a big if, Winnipeg plays Thursday night on espn2 at 7:30 central. Go Strev Looks like the first three games of their season will be on ESPN2. After that you would have to have TSN (The Sports Network) which is, I believe, the ESPN of Canada. I'm not sure if there are streaming options, but maybe someone could find out. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2018_Winnipeg_Blue_Bombers_seasonMeaningful football in June. Who knew?
